Very good movies. I feel they're criticized mostly for breaking from a sort of 'tradition' and not really on their raw material. Both excellent spy action films. Not nearly as boring as Bourne can be on a bad day.

Bourne and boring in the same sentence?! Did The Bourne Legacy come out already?! ;)

Renner should be ashamed. You can't be in the epic MI:GP and then do a substandard spy film like Legacy (assuming, of course). Should be a s h a m e d.

And yes, if I'm not 'in the mood' I find myself struggling to stay in tune with any of the Bourne films.

I feel that sometimes too when I am watching any film. If you watch a film when your heart isn't in it, you will just sit there and nod off. It has to be the right moment when you really want to watch a film.

    The Fifth Element (1997)

This movie didn't do well in the box office but I think the sales on VHS were pretty good. Loved this movie since I was about ten years old. It does what it sets out to do... have fun.

    Fanboys (2009)

I don't know if this one is underrated because there are so many people that don't know of this film. It's one of my favorite movies. A must see for Star Wars fans but you don't have to be one to enjoy this film. Very funny and has heart.

Bourne Identity is extremely boring and tedious... but I really liked Supremacy and Ultimatum.

Identity doesn't live up to the others in terms of action sure, but I think its good from a story standpoint.
  • Just watched '28 Weeks Later', and was incredibly suprised as to how much I enjoyed it, i'd heard huge mixed reviews, and after viewing it, I cannot see the reasoning to all of the hate. I have seen '28 Days later', and yes, that was a superb film, directed by a superb director, Danny Boyle, but I don't see what was wrong with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's take on the sequel! I loved every minute of it, and I never wanted it to end!
I gave it a solid 9/10, that's one up from the brilliant '28 Days Later'. Seriously underated in my honest opinion.

I loved Sunshine and Blade Runner, Dimi !! So I will watch Alien as soon as I can !

I adore Sunshine. Its by far my favourite Dnany Boyle film and tragic that it barely dented the box office.

I have really tried with Blade Runner (must have seen it about 5 times) as everyone goes on about how good it is but I just find incredibly dull. Have to say I find that with most Ridley Scott films. Dont really see why hes so feted. His films are good but for me never beyond 8/10. Thelma and Louise his best I would give that a 9.

Most underrated film? Got to be Escape to Victory. Genius and possibly the best film ever made.

Both of Duncan Jones' films; his independent film, 'Moon' was absolutely brillainat I thought, yet nobody seems to have heard of it. I can't remember hearing about it at all where I live, but when I went to London, I noticed quite a few posters for it. It was heavily un-noticed I thought. Aswell as 'Source Code', which did get a wider advertisement, but even that seemed to go un-noticed, yet that's one of my favourite films!

I own a copy of moon e excellent film, echo's of 2001 and silent running. Also enjoyed source code by the same director.

Not the most underrated film by any distance, but one of my favorite movies is DiCaprio's 2000 Thailand epic, The Beach, directed by Danny Boyle, he of Trainspotting stardom

I think it's gets unfairly criticized, I've read the book by Alex Garvan back to front and the film does stray away from the source material at times, but it's still a very good release. I think DiCaprio is better here than the VERY OVERRATED Titanic actually. It just has all the necessary ingredients to make a very entertaining few hours spent, and it has the lovely French actress Virginie Ledoyen for good measure. I just feel it simply doesn't get the recognition it deserves

i'll add another of David Fincher's to this list, and one from Joel Schumacher - both starring Michael Douglas... first up...

    <a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v323/djx187/?action=view&current=001thegame.jpg"; target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/djx187/001thegame.jpg"; border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
I think this movie is one of Fincher's masterpieces - one that gets lost in the shuffle of his other brilliant works like The Social Network, Fight Club, Se7en, and most recently The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo... but I absolutely the love The Game - as it feels like a modern day Alfred Hitchcock movie, where you take an ordinary man, and turn his world completely upside down..... not to mention, it had one of the best uses of the song "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane ever in a film..

    second...

    <a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v323/djx187/?action=view&current=002fallingdown.jpg"; target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/djx187/002fallingdown.jpg"; border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

This is another film that sorta gets lost in the shuffle - one i recently discovered a couple years ago, and i was shocked at how many people hadn't seen this movie, or had no clue what i was talking about when i asked them if they had seen it... once again, Michael Douglas does an excellent job portraying a man who just one decides he's had enough crap - and just wants to "go home"... a brilliant, and often forgotten about piece of 90s cinema...

as a child, i grew up not really caring for Michael Douglas at first - but watching these 2 films, now that i am older have given me new respect for the man, as he's become one of my favorite actors.

What about Eastern Star? Gritty, especially Viggo Mortensen. Viggo was nominated for an Oscar (I feel deservedly so) but it didn't do much box office, did it? Or am I remembering this wrong ...

i think you mean Eastern Promises

it was nominated for 3 Golden Globes... Best Picture, Best Original Score and Best Actor

it was only nominated for 1 Academy Award... Best Actor

I've asked so many people after I first watch this enjoyable thriller if they liked it. And they said 'no'. This makes no sense to me as he recieved good reviews, decent box office numbers (Better than the superior Memento) and terrific performances from Pacino and Williams.

Yes, that is it: Eastern Promises! Good film; Viggo was great. Really gritty fight scene in the turkish bath, too.

It is seen as a "guilty pleasure" by many, but I will shout it loud and proud that this films is awesome. I've loved it since I was little and Will Smith is brilliant as usual. The plot is interesting and always keeps you engorged, and the film carries a what would you do and is it right or wrong mentality to it that is uncommon to its genre.

Totally agree, I also grew up loving ut! I still can't understand all the hate. It's not a bad film.

Keach is one of those actors who's career missed the boat. Possibly that could be connected to his bust for possession of cocaine back in 1983, I don't know. But The Squeeze is hugely underrated, and shows how good Keach could be. This film has that gritty feel that only british films and tv shows of the 1970's could have.

    watchmen-poster-rorschach.jpg
Watchmen is my bloody bible, and I hate to see the film version smashed. But, it happens. Usually the people who add negative criticism haven't read the graphic novel. The film handled the ending better too in my opinion, when
Rorschach dies and we actually see Dan scream with agony at the sight, while in the graphic novel we only see Rorschach getting vaporized and no reaction from Dan. He is with Laurie at the time.
    And
the crazy alien octopus is traded for energy reactors, and I like the films version of New York's demise much better.
All in all, a great adaption considering what Hollywood can miff up these days. And Jackie Earle Haley was perfection as Rorschach, one of the greatest characters ever created.

Watchmen is fantastic. Here's the thing, I never read the graphic novel when I saw it. I had heard from so many critics saying "people who haven't read the comic will be lost with this adaption". I couldn't disagree more, I followed everything perfectly and it was one of my favorite films of 2009

I am glad to hear that my friend, and I highly advise you to get the graphic novel. I caution you though, it will change your life.

I've not seen that, but I recommend Carrey in Me Myself and Irene as an underrated film, saw it on it's release in 2000 and if you haven't seen it yet, I say go out and grab a copy at the next opportunity. You won't be disappointed

Me Myself and Irene is a messed up movie... (very funny, I can see for sure)
BUT to offensive for mainstream, guess thats why it never got alot of attention.
