  • How on earth have these passed me by, they're gorgeous. These HAVE to be in my collection.
For Bond aficionados, these are an absolute must.
If you are a collector, you just need them because they are going to be the next desirable.

For a second I forgot I wasn't in the Kawaii plush toy thread and wondered what the hell had gone wrong with the world.

I've gotten into eyeballing them like crazy since last night. I think I spotted the DN one before, but not all the others. Would love getting to add some of these to my collection.

Is it inevitable that they'll all get this same Folio Society treatment, or is it only for select novels?

I have to imagine they're aiming to do the whole series. For now, the Dr. No edition looks particularly stunning to me. I think that's where I'll start. Going straight onto the Christmas wishlist.

Might have to do the same thing, because the DN edition really is something special. I especially love the shot of Bond versus the squid.

Yes, Folio Society has confirmed that this is their goal. They are releaseing the books at a pace of 2 books per year, basically 6 month between books. So the next one should hit around april

If I had about $200 to blow, I'd just pick up all four, since you save about $30-40 doing so.

In one fell swoop I bought all CR, FRWL and DN about two months ago. They are fantastic. I'm actually going to read all of them rather than let them just gather dust. I have the LALD version they did about ten years ago which is an oddity that stands out from the rest of the collection - so I imagine they'll re-release this once they've gone right through the collection. Wondering whether they'll release FYEO in chronological order or at the end with OP/TLD. Can't wait to have the lot. My only wish was that they had more pictures. Being my favourite book I decided to get them all once they released FRWL and the picture of Red Grant in the train compartment is wonderful.

Folio talks about that LALD one-off briefly in this interview:

Their original release of LALD is the actual reason why they did not released the new editions in chronological order. They are planning to redo LALD in the current design too, and are now moving back to releaseing the books in chronological order.

Just ordered Moonraker. Really glad they did this one next.

Hopefully they will do the entire series and they have stated that as their objective.
That said, with Folio nothing is ever certain.
For example, a couple of years ago they did a great version of Le Carre’s TTSS but never followed up with The Honourable Schoolboy or Smiley’s People. Then two or three months ago they released TSWCIFTC but in quite a different style to TTSS.
All quite difficult to understand and somewhat disappointing for those of us that loved the Karla trilogy.
With Eric Ambler they did three of his most famous in a great uniform style which was nice and with Forsyth they did a fabulous version of TDOTJ and nothing else.
Probably, with Bond they will be more consistent but don’t underestimate the importance of Fay Dalton in all of this. She is a hugely successful artist who is in significant demand and without her the project would not be the same.
PussyNoMore’s best advice would be strike while the iron is hot.

Have CR, read it, have FRWL and am reading it now. Would love to get the other two, especially as these were two that I was looking forward to. Have to sell some stuff…
They are lovely editions, but should be read and not just put on a shelf.
  • Moonraker has arrived and it is stunning.
Fay's visuals are beyond good. She captures the characters portrayed by Fleming so well and there is happily, no influence at all, stemming from the movies.
Pure, unadulterated Fleming. PussyNoMore couldn't be more pleased.

Have seen some of the illustrations - Folio Society sent me their latest catalogue - and they are great. Gala Brand was always one of my favourite, sexy Bond girls. Got to get this edition!

They are well worth saving for, Im waiting for Moonraker to arrive and I cant wait for each edition. I have always wanted a quality and unique hardback collection of the flemings and as I cant afford some of the very first editions these are going to be my flagship books.

Same here, i decided two years ago that i want to collect all the Bond novels, from Fleming through Amis and all the way to Horowitz, but i wanted the Fleming books to really stand out and be the most striking ones, but i couldn't find anything close to that. Folio gave me exactly what i was looking for

Just ordered MR - to fit nicely with CR, FRWL, DN on my shelf (and my oddity LALD folio from 2007) am going to put aside a little each week so I can get these each time they're released. Really curious to see the visual interpretations of GF, OHMSS and YOLT especially.

Apparently IFP have announced that next year's folio releases are Diamonds Are Forever, Thunderball and Goldfinger. I hope they are going to release For Your Eyes Only at some point.

Excited to hear about Thunderball! I put Casino Royale on my Christmas list this year, would love to have the set someday!

Very excited to see what they do with the Blofeld Trilogy.

Yeah I'm looking forward to all the book. I just hope they do all of them now. Not just the novels but For Your Eyes Only and The Living Daylights, it's these lesser known ones along with The soy who loved me that I'm looking forward to as well. Interested in the all to be honest and now I have started to collect them. I want every Ian Fleming original published.

Folio Society is releasing it's spring collection next week.
Got a bit overexited, as i'm pretty sure the next Bond Novel will be part of that.

This is a preview image from their Facebook. Could be the second from the top :)

Guesses? DAF or OHMSS I'm thinking. Would love it to be OHMSS.

I think they're releasing them in order from now on so assuming it'll be DAF. Can't wait!

Well, it'll have to be one of the shorter ones. I guess an easy way to guess would be to compare the sizes of the books in the image to the size of the other Folio Bond releases that come close to Diamond's page length.

Hadn't heard of these before but they look great. Just ordered MR and I'll definitely get the rest eventually. Can't wait for them to do YOLT.

PussyNoMore thinks that the fabulous Fay Dalton is needed urgently over at Cape to fix the ‘Forever And A Day’ cover art fiasco before it’s too late !

ClarkDevlin, thanks for your support but does anybody know how we can get a message to IFP/Cape and Fay before it’s too late ?

Also, does anybody know if there is any truth to the rumour that Waterstones have boycotted the cover on the grounds that it offends good taste ?
Evidently they plan to sell a collector’s edition in a plain brown wrapper!

No problem, PussyNoMore. I'm afraid no matter how much voice we put into this one, they'll never reconsider it. The thing is, with contemporary novels getting released (not necessarily Bond novels, just prose fiction overall), the cover artworks have descended into the lowest of the lows. All photographic, cheap large fonts, hardly any touch of class, art and mystery to them, the society has lost all sophistication it used to have. I miss the old days when covers were painted, illustrated, properly taken care of, and gave a hint of what the interior pages offered. Nowadays, when I look at a modern book, I'm not slightly interested in them.
