Quantum of Solace: Is it any good?

I bought QoS for PS2 today because I heard how it was different from the Xbox 360 and had some different levels. I just thought I'd get a little feedback from the community here. Is it better than the others? Will it be at least semi-fun?

No. Frustrating quicktime events. Those presented in the game forced the player to play them over and over again if a failure happened. The only game with quicktime events to which my reflexes weren't honed fast enought. I grew tired of those.

There were quicktime events in the PS3/X360 version too. In regards to the PS2 version, I would say that it is a lot better than the PS3/360 version.

    - The perspective is now 3rd person.
    - Bonds clothing is more accurate than the PS3/360 counterpart.
    - The Sienna Chase feels more like a chase and less like a shooting gallery.
    - Though there are less levels, the games feels like it flows better.

Yes, just like every other game these days. But the ones in PS2 version were annoyyyying. Like heck.

I really enjoyed the Xbox 360 Version, but I did feel like it was a bit too repetitive. I'm hoping the PS2 version will be a little more enjoyable and will follow the movies a bit closer than the 360 version.

A bigger let down than the film. Total pants.

Don't get me wrong, i'm all for a traditional hand to hand combat engine (EON's was good), but I found the PS2 QTE's easier than the PS3's.

I bought it figuring it wouldn't be much different from the PS3 verion. Man was I wrong. It feels shorter, has less weapons, and just doesn't feel like much work or care was put into it. The PS3 and 360 versions are much better.

Thanks for all your comments and advice! I've been playing it today, and it is just "in the middle" right now. I looked at the level select, and it is extremely short! Where are the other levels? Science Center exterior, Train, Casino Poison, Venice? Once I beat the game, there won't be much left really. Not to mention the lack of multiplayer! Ugh...that one kills me. There are some good things, like the chase levels, which stick to chasing rather than stopping every two seconds to shoot some thugs. The cut-scenes are different from the 360, so that's somewhat refreshing. The big thing is the lack of 1st person Call of Duty set-up. It has a more Bloodstone feel to it.

I thought the PS2 version was fairly strong. I picked it up for $15 so I wasn't expecting much anyway. The biggest problem is the length; single player is far too short!!!!!

    A fun couple hours, though.

I just don't understand why the length is so short. Why remove some of the best levels, particularly Train and Venice? It's not like the game was too full, I mean, there's no multiplayer, so surely there'd be some more room for the other levels! The one consolation is the Hatian Docks level. And for some added joy, I instantly recognized it as one of the multiplayer maps on GoldenEye 2010!

was not impressed with QOS at all... it was an alright game, average at best... but it could have been, and should've been much better.

I loved both the PS3 and PS2 versions. The PS3 version was more action/gameplay oriented, while the PS2 version was more stealth/story oriented. I personally liked the PS2 version because, while it had fewer missions and less CR, it had more QoS.

Anybody else think that the last level on the Xbox 360 version is the best level of the entire game? I absolutely love that last level, it's completely thrilling! The garage shoot-out, the kitchen shoot-out, and the big ol' 8-CAT tearing up Greene and his men at the end!

I thought the single player was ok...not anything that is gonna grab you and suck you in. I thought Multiplayer was complete trash. Even with sensitivity levels maxed it played too slow....like a N64 game. I read in that closed thread in the original post about graphics being good....are you kidding me? The graphics (especially online) were utter trash. Overall It just didn't have much of a fun factor at all. Can you say shotgun fest? Same problem with Reloaded. I hope the next Bond just scraps the shotgun....seriously is there a need for it? All it is is a crutch for players who can't aim for crap and need a 1 shot kill cus landing 4-5 with a smg/assault is just to hard for them.

Well I liked the graphics on the Xbox 360 version. I thought they were very well done, crystal clear, and lots of attention to detail was shown. As for the fun factor, I always get a thrill when playing QoS on the 360. It's got lots of great gun fights!

I played both versions, and the PS2 version is definitely better.
-You see Bond now in 3rd person
-More accurate to the events of the films
-Keeps you more interested than the next gen version
    -Paces much better
-Funner gunfights that allow you to be tactical
-Great action set pieces, especially the Sienna chase, the Bregenz gunfight, fighting helicopters at the Sink Hole, and the gunfights in the Casino.

I really recommend it. You will have more fun with it than with the weak next gen version.

I'll agree with a good deal of this. Sometimes, however, I was a bit miffed at the choppers at the sink hole, but that's about it.

I have the PS2 version. I thought it was fun. Not AMAZING or anything, but I enjoyed playing it.

(Of course I haven't even beaten the thing, I got *right* to the end and just can't manage to shoot Medrano. I don't usually give up with videogames but after dozens of tries I made an exception in this case.)

I bought it on PS3 once it hit $20 (I rarely buy any movie tie-in game when it's new)
    and found it completely 'meh'.

It wasn't until months later that I read that the PS2 version was an entirely different game. I assumed it was the same one with worse graphics. The PS2's 3rd person made me feel like I was playing the next 'Everything or Nothing'. It was much more enjoyable! I think a Bond game should always be 3rd person, but that's just me. First person-- you could be anyone.

I had trouble with that too. It's been a while, but if memory serves me right you have to get a shotgun before you exit the hotel and go up to the spot where Medrano escapes. Get the shotgun before you leave out of the hotel, and use your sidearm to save shotgun bullets. Once you see Medrano pull out the shottie and go to town on him. You should beat the game then.

Thanks, but are you sure that's in the right version? In the PS2 one he is running to a helicopter and you have to shoot him as he's running. No matter how good my aim seems to be, it doesn't affect him. :-/

Have you just replayed that part?? If you have the shottie and are close enough you should get him.

I just watched a playthrough video of the ending to the PS2 version and he used the shottie as well and got a one hit kill out of it. So if you have the shottie and get one shot with it at Medrano you can get him.

And in that sense I must admit I find the ending of the game a bit disappointing. That said, and as I have pointed out in other threads before, I play the game more to get the "Yeah, I am James Bond!" feel and not so much to boost up my FPS skills. ;-)

Haha, no, it's been a while. I'm probably remembering it wrong. I'll tell you what, I will load it up today and try again!! :)

It's there, trust me. I kind of want to dust off the ol' PS2 and give it a go again myself.
