President Nicolas Sarkozy, who flew to Toulouse, described the attack as a "national tragedy". He has called for all schools in France to observe a minute's silence on Tuesday and vowed to hunt down the killer

A few days ago three young children were killed on a highway after being thrown out of a train because they were travelling without a ticket, the kids then called the police who ignored them. No outcry from Sarkozy then, probably because they were Roma.

It didn't happen that way. First, the kids were thrown off the train at the next station, that is true. But then, they chose to walk on a highway (strictly forbidden here). A patrolman saw and approached them, two of the girls fled. He told the third one that he would call the gendarmes (he didn't have the right to take them in his car) so that they could get them to safety, and told them to wait for them to arrive. The girls, hearing the word "gendarmes", fled again.

So, they didn't ask for help to the police, they fled from the police. Now, why they decided to climb a fence and walk on a highway instead of waiting at or near the station until daytime and ask for help then, and why they decided to flee instead of waiting for the gendarmerie, we'll never know.
