Basically what is says in the title. Who is the best Actor/ Actress overall to ever appear in a Bond film. I dont necessarily mean the performance in the specific Bond movie, but their whole body of work, including Bond.

Could be a Bond themselves, a villain, leading lady, whoever.

I will kick things off, with admittedly a bit of a cop out.

A tie between Robert Shaw and Christopher Walken.

Quite a few fine actors have graced our films and Christopher Lee is probably my favourite of them all, but if we're counting NSNA you can only give this title to Max von Sydow. His work for Ingmar Bergman alone elevates him above anyone else.

Albert Finney is definitely one of them.

Diana Rigg, Louis Jourdan and Klaus Maria Brandauer.

Oddly enough, Walken, Pryce and Bardem -- prestigious, award-winning actors who I normally love -- gave hammy, ill-conceived performances in their Bond films.

Off the top of my head, I'd have to pick either Robert Shaw or Dame Judi Dench. I'd toss Max von Sydow alongside them if we're counting the unofficial movies.

I thought Chrome was great, especially in FYEO. Impressive that he could remember his lines and deliver on cue.

Pierce Brosnan and Judi Dench. Sometimes nice to see a movie with Sean Bean and Christopher Walken.

Those days we stil can see actors in other movies, but from my point of age the fame of actors from longer a go not go futher then Christopher Walken.

I like Denise Richards and also don't mind Albert Finney in SF too. And if you ask me i like to see Kirk Douglas stars in Bond 25.

Will you be looking on in shock as Bond rides by on a hover-gondola?

The guy is 101 years old mate. Unless they're doing a reboot of the warehouse fight from AVTAK I really don't see a role for anyone that old.

I supppse they could always defrost Hannes Oberhauser from the glacier perhaps?

If we are including non-EON I'd go with the great Max Von Sydow. No question.

Exactly. Can’t imagine anyone coming close.

Pity he was only in the film for two scenes.

    Haha, that would be awesome.

Judi Dench, Christopher Lee, Christopher Walken, Javier Bardem, Christoph Waltz, Benicio Del Toro, Albert Finney, and Sean Connery.

Not sure who I'd pick as the absolute best.

Strange nobody mentioned Michael Lonsdale yet.

Also Tchécky Karyo from GE has proven himself a very fine actor in a couple of French flicks. As did Sophie Marceau.

Julian Glover and Steven Berkoff have done a lot of well respected theatre work.

Arent Kabir Bedi and Jerone Krabbe big names in their native countries?

I don't think Robert Carlyle has been mentioned. His performance in Cracker is exceptional.

Mads Mikkleson is one of the best actors working today.

Remarkably no one has mentioned Halle Berry yet. Can we really discard someone who has won a best actress Oscar?

Don’t know about Kabir Bedi, but Jeroen Krabbé is definitely well respected in the Netherlands and the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium.

Klaus Maria Brandauer is a great actor too. Has been in quite a few quality Istvan Szabo films, of which the most famous is Mephisto.

Well...I think we can probably rule out Soon Taik Oh and the bloke who plays the French cab driver in AVTAK at the very least.

I'm just waiting for @001 to chip in with Mohammed Salah!

Forgot Julian Glover, Robert Shaw, Ralph Fiennes etc.

Nobody's mentioned John Rhys-Davies. Isn't Joseph Wiseman well-known for his stage work?

Although this is turning more into an honourable mentions thread rather than picking a particular first. I don't think I could pick one as the very best, though.

Get Gary Oldman for Bond 25, and then it will be easier.

Let us not forget Eva Green either.

Speaking of CR, Giancarlo Gianninni did some pretty impressive stuff too. I’d suggest Lina Wertmüller’s Pasqualino Settebellezze (aka Seven Beauties) or Luchino Visconti’s L’innocente (aka The Innocent) for closer inspection.

What is the best performance by any actor who has been in a Bond film?

Off the top of my head:

Sean Connery - The Hill/The Man Who Would Be King/The Name Of The Rose
    Robert Shaw - Jaws
Christopher Walken - The Deer Hunter
    Christoph Waltz - Inglorious Basterds
    Ralph Fiennes - Schindler's List
