At last count I own something like 700 disks which means about 400 movies and a lot of TV series... in a small town I could be my own version of Blockbuster... am I abby-normal?

  • I think it's just fantastic having your own film library—however selective, however enormous. It can be a representation of who you are: your interests, your dreams, your memories, your outlook on the world, your philosophy on life. It can contain your favorite actors, favorite actresses, favorite directors, favorite genres, favorite scenes, favorite lines, favorite action sequences, favorite soundtracks. And of course, the larger the collection, it's a handy way to be able to pull off the shelf and watch instantly exactly what you're in the mood for at that moment. Ah cinema—what a wonderful part of life.

No. I don't have that many but I have quite a few too. At least 3 shelves worth.

500 - 1000 dvds though most are in two large storage boxes.

    250+ Bluray movies

    30 Bluray Box sets

I threw away hundreds of VHS about ten years ago took up too much space and no charity shop would take them.

BD/DVD and CD/DVD combopacks count as one, more then 850.
    Include se Bond dvd's.

Above on that i have 40 VHS include Deathwish 1&2 on one video. 19 Bond (Dr no til LTK and 2vhs sets of Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies), Independence Day Vhs cut, Fantasia and 6 other movies i not have on BD or DVD. So i have Bond 1-18 on Vhs and Dvd, Batman 1-4 on vhs and BD, Jurassic Park 1&2 on vhs and dvd, The Mask and Independence Day on vhs & dvd.

I stil buying dvds from movies where i am disapointed in bonusmaterial of the BD.
Stil there be movies who are not or not yet released on BD. If not released on BD i ignore it or try find my luck for second hand dvd on Kingsday. I buyng a lot second hand BD in almoost new style too. I see step back in the growing of my collection this year.

I start in 2013 with BD (bought my player and some titles in 2012 and already have one BD since 2009 and one title since 2010.). But price and how much be avaible not let me start collect before 31 July 2012. In 2011 i bought my moost dvds. Half way 2014 i get feeling i be on my top with BD and stores too. Now i only have 2-3 stores left and kingsday.

Iam am afraid it wil come to end from the studios wil same thing as there did with dvd. There start with 4K Bluray/BD compobacks. I not realy feel need to start with the new firmat, but iam afraid bonusmaterial going to be a thing. Mabey i should give up. Of course i have the problem that there be enough movies i like to have on Bluray or whant new releases. For example i like have all Bond on BD but not before it be 2 disc BD's.

But how less there is how less i whant to pay and it already be very dificult with BD. Patience and luck . Alternate cut of movie in 3D is gon sooner then later. Also there are stil some tv series i whant to make complete on Dvd. When i bought 3D title i always keep in mind, how much it is worth if does not work any more. I pay € 15,00 for my moost expensive BD and that whas 4 disc of The Hobbit 2. Cheaper then 2 disc se dvd of lord of the rings and for example my moost expensive dvd of Twine and Mi2.

I also start a collection of soundtracks from movies i collect, but cd's even more dificult. I see growing of boxoffice in cinema as signal people are not happy with price / limiteds of BD or Dvd and what you get for it.

Don't know numbers, but I'd say I have the most in VHS format from my childhood, and a smaller but near equal portion in DVD and Blu-ray, with DVD having the edge as I'm still building up my Blu-ray collection. Before the last year or so I lacked a lot of the Blu-rays I have now, but have been on a bargain hunt every time I'm out and about and have picked a lot up.

I could add a few more when I think about it when counting disks as many are double disk or triple disks dvd/Blu-ray.

I am slowly building up a decent digital collection I have around 150 digital movies now.

I haven't a clue, guys. Must be over 1000 DVD's at least and then several dozen BR's. The DVD's are a product of 15 years of collecting and getting a ton of them dumped in my lap by colleagues and family members who every now and then clean out a few boxes and closets.

    But besides those porn titles?

    Putting it simple: too many.
Not that many VHS films, as the VHS player I once had, doesn't work anymore. Can't find myself to get rid of those VHS cassettes, even if I should. Haven't jumped on the Blu-ray train as of yet (if ever), so only a few selected BR-titles.

DVD's are my biggest space issue at the moment. Have too many of those damn things. Next year I have to make sure to get rid of some DVD's I probably never going to watch again.

After spending months whittling down my blu-ray collection, I'd say I have about 100 or so blu-rays (mostly movies, some TV shows thrown in), a couple of select or rare DVD's that I can't find on any other format (or just never bothered to upgrade at all), and about 15 4K titles now.

Oh, and I do have several VHS Bond titles too, just for fun. I know I've got a VCR around here somewhere, I've always wanted to return to the series in VHS for old time's sake and enjoy them that way.

@Creasy47 - I did that with my copy of TND, just for a larf. The image quality is poor, naturally, and I even wondered if I could get through this showing on VHS, due to the picture quality. But I found myself really invested throughout. Strange. Perhaps it not being so crystal clear, and thus not a work of art as it were, I got into the story and the characters even more than usual as a way of compensating.

I will have to try that myself sometime—I still have several on VHS (probably about 14). As you say, @Creasy47, for old time's sake. It'll be just like how I experienced many of them for the first time: horribly cropped on a box TV. But I imagine there would be a wonderful, even exciting, charm in experiencing them that way again after all these years.

That very well could be. It's funny the little bits and bobs within a film you manage to pick up on all of a sudden because the picture quality of films gets better and better. I was noticing little things in my 4K of Blade Runner that I somehow hadn't even picked up on in blu-ray, just because it was all more clear and detailed.

Putting the VHS copy into the player filled me with nostalgia. You're right @Some_Kind_Of_Hero the VHS Bonds are full of charm. Simpler times and all that...
