Hot Fuzz is great but Johnny English 1 and 2?? Really??

Although I do like Rowan Atkinson.

The 2 Johnny English films are excellent ! Comedic gold, wonderful films. Much better than the last 2 Bond films. They're just have amazing entertainement and replay value.

And its not a trolling attempt either because I have never been enjoyed by that movie whenever I watch it. Nothing of interest happens in it. So it starts and old lady tries to look tough but it fails and she just seems ridiculous, then they're on a train and nothing happens... and then, nothing continues to happen.
There on the train and NOTHING happens? What about the great fisticuff fight of the franchise between Bond and Grant? The moment the entire film has led up to. FRWL is a brilliant classic espionage film that is an ace in not only Bond but in all of film.

The way Dalton was in Hot Fuzz, he should have been when he was Bond. He wasn´t as serious or emo as he was in his Bond movies Add many gadgets and jokes and a charming persona and voila, Dalton would be a great Bond.
Don´t get me wrong, I like what he did in his movies, but my proposal would be alot better.

I have to agree that the train sequence is great. To say that nothing happens on the train is strange to me. The entire Bond vs Grant stuff (especially before the fight) was super. I also like the helicopter and boat chase. Other than that FRWL is one of my least favorite Bond movies.

    - Dalton could be as charming as needed as Bond.
    - The underwater scenes in TB quickly get tedious.
    - Connery does not look bored through YOLT.
    - Caroline Bliss made a good, if underused, Moneypenny.
    - GoldenEye would have been vastly improved if it was a Dalton film.
    - Craig never should have been cast. No matter how much money his two have brought in.
    - The '76 Aston Martin Lagonda should have been a Bond car.
    - John Terry isn't the worst Felix Leiter.
    - Connery should not have done DAF. If his heart wasn't in it (which is clearly wasn't), then he should not have bothered.
    - A 5th Brosnan film would have been an utter travesty.

Could it REALLY have reached the lows that DAD did?

A fifth Brosnan would have been a superior CR, if that was the planned title.

I think it would have been worse. I imagine the 5th Brosnan film having an even more out of shape Brosnan with Whitney Houston SCREAMING the title track, and getting a role in the film. As for gadgets, i'm thinking.... an inflatable orange submarine.

Dalton was charming in TLD. Casting D'Abo was smart because the two had genuine chemistry.

The worst Leiters are in GF and DAF.

To me, Connery seems like he's having a lark in DAF, a last hurrah. It's YOLT where he seems to sleepwalk through the role.

Brosnan is one of the weakest Bond actors (surpassed only by Lazenby) but he was repeatedly let down by his scripts, especially post-GE. His Tailor of Panama spy is a more well-rounded portrayal than in any of his four Bond films.

Perhaps but we never know. Don't forget this whole "backlash" thing started mainly started AFTER he left so we're talking in hindsight.

I'd have thought one more film in 2005ish (the same year he starred in The Matador) would have been too unreasonable. Yeah he was playing a bum in that film but I don't think he looked too fat there.

Every Bond actor should, atleast to a certain degree, try to copy Moore´s portrayal. EON should do movies like Moore´s movies or DAD. I think Bond should have a gadget-laden car in every movie, like in the Brosnan movies. Those cars are also supposed to be used (yes, I´m looking at you, GE). He should also always have a Q-watch, and use it.

Oh please no. It's bad enough that there's 7 Bond films with Moore. If other actors copied Moore then I would call the series dead and stop watching any future films. Wouldn't you rather Moore's take on the role remain as Moore's and let other actors try to find their own style?
Copying is not the right word, but going more into his direction and mixing it with their style of acting. Brosnan was a little in the style of Moore but also did his own thing. That´s what I had in mind. But the rest of my post I really stand by.

Yeah I would never want to see an actor copy another one. Half of the fun of this series is the variety, and the character keeping with the times

Wooaahhh! Please tell me why DC shouldn't of been cast?

I'd have gladly taken a DAD 2 and DAD 3 instead of CR and QOS.

That would've been horrible, as would the planned 'jinx' film if that would of gone ahead instead of CR

I get the feeling that sometimes people simply speak to be controversial.

That's too controversial for even this thread!

Honestly Pierce Brosnan didnt look fat in Die Another Day...he looked more fit than Daniel Craig looks in the press release of Skyfall and he would have done a great job in 2 more bond films
  • Posts: 4,813
Pierce was never fat, when did this come about? I could still see his six pack through his chest hair (impressive)
  • edited March 2012 Posts: 11,189
He was a bit on the podgy side in DAD. Not as bad as some fans make out though.

Google "images" "pierce Brosnan fat" for a rather infamous pic on a boat.

Another controversial view: Craig was a teeny bit on the wooden side in QOS.

1- The Man With The Golden Gun is the best Bond Film.
2- Dalton is overrated, so is Brosnan
3- Moore was the best Bond with Connery, they are both sides of the coin.
4- Although Moore is the best Bond, as said before, he did the worst film, Moonraker.
5- DAD is much worse than CR & QOS.
    6- Goldfinger is overrated.
7- Moore should have started in DAF.
8- Moore didn't look that old in AVTAK, it was only because of his hair.
9- The humor used in CR and QOS is good, but not enough.

That's about as controversial as this cat with a hat:

    1) i will say the showdown with Scaramnaga and Roger was really good- the rest of the film is questionable

    2) both are good but i suppose they didnt get enough movies to flesh out their charaters- both Sean and Roger had 7 films each

    3) Like Harvey Dent?

    4) well moonraker is okay not the best film but i suppose its marginally worse than AVTAK

    5) its roughly the same around QOS but yeah DAD is not as good as CR which is the 2nd best bond film i've ever seen

    6) i use to love Goldfinger as a kid but it is kinda overrated now

    7) yeah that would be cool

    8) Yeah i agree Roger didnt look that old as many people said= there are a couple of minor scenes in which he looks old but mostly he had the same face from MR/FYEO

    9) Casino Royale had sharp humor but QOS lacked any sort of humour

What about the Dead end joke? or the lotery thing in the hotel?
