The MI6community BETTING CORNER! [Bet #1 added: "NEXT BOND #25 DIRECTOR"]

edited October 2017 in Bond 26 & Beyond Posts: 11,119
It's very simple really! Let's predict! Let's gamble like Bond! Let's place fictitious bets! Let's guess our buts off! And in the end, when the final confirmation comes through, we have some winners and losers ;-). We have some potential Baz Bamigboye's and we have some forummembers with some reputation issues :-P (just joking!). See it as an add-on to the now (in)famous "Bond 25 Production Diary".

Rules are simple. I place a multiple-choice "bet", with 5 answers or possible 'options'. Each 'answer' you post means that you back that 'option' with a fictional €20,-. You can re-post your option, if you're becoming more certain that option will happen. Meaning that you'll add another €20,- to the pot! The pot will become bigger that way, and once that 'answer' or 'option' becomes reality, you win the whole damn thing off course :-). But if you are too self-assured, you...LOOSE!

So one of the "betting odds" questions of today (As of Monday October 16th 2017) is this one:

WHO WILL BECOME THE NEXT BOND #25 DIRECTOR ?

A --> Yann Demange
B --> Christopher Nolan
C --> David Mackenzie
D --> Denis Villeneuve
E --> Someone else (eg. Steven Soderbergh, Sam Mendes, Guy Ritchie)

More questions will be added in between, so make sure that you place your 'bet'/'answer'/'option' on the right question! So make sure you copy-paste the question with your bet! It's all about money you know. Gambling. Like our good ol' James Bond does all the time ;-)!

Let's place our bets!

British/French director Yann Demange:

British director Christopher Nolan:

Scottish director David Mackenzie:

    My choice is E I have no idea who will get the gig, though I hope it's B though I don't think that will happen.

    Your bet is placed ;-). You just put €20 on option 'E' ;-).

    You can not retract your choice. The money is placed. But obviously later you can place more money on other options if that becomes more likely.

    @Gustav_Graves Can I just ask, before placing my bet, that Yann Demange's correct nationality be listed? :) He is only French, he does not have any ties to the UK.

    He was born in France, and then moved to the UK at age 2. So couldn't there be a possibility that, apart from his name, we should really consider him a Brit? Perhaps he even has a UK passport....making it easier for him to work in the UK?

    This is a tough one,as he has lived in the UK since he was 2.
    He also was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.

    Demange has never applied for the British citizenship, he only holds a French passport and has said in several interviews he considers himself as French and nothing else.

    There we go then...problem solved.
    The header will need to be changed as you say DC007.

    So....this passport defines his Britishness? The fact that he didn't apply for citizenship in the UK (which especially won't happen now due to Brexit) makes him....less British? His nationality prevails over his actual work for British film :-)?

    I'm playing a bit of a devil's advocate here...because I'm just curious ;-).

    I'm quoting Demange himself.

    If you list Demange as British, then please list Villeneuve as American, as his filmography consists of over 50% of American productions. I really don't see what the issue is. All I pointed out was that saying Demange is British is factually untrue. You listed the wrong nationality, we're not going to have an endless discussion about it. I explained twice that he is not British in any way, no need to go up in arms about it. All that was needed was to acknowledge there is an error in the original post in this thread and either rectify it or not.

    He is France/Uk person. Growing up with his France mother in Uk.
    Also he credit him self as France. If we follow those rules, then he should not direct Bond 25.
    But he also working on English productions and cast members like Marc Forster. My doubts has more to do with own Frence credit and we have seen enough Bondgirls from France. Also Mi6 already have France as location.

    Van Hoytema is Swedish / Dutch, whyle he is born in Switserland.
    He feels more Swedish, because lived there and he credit him self as Swedish.

    Bond is English because he lived and be born there, but with scotish father.
    He growing up in Scotland (and austria) and England, wearing scotish kilt in ohmss.

    Just watched "Logan Lucky". And I have to say...I liked the film. It was funny, charming, and Soderbergh really got the atmosphere and the poverty of (West-)Virginia right. The little girl, Sadie Logan (kids actress Farrah Mackenzie), in a way was the emotional center. All the guys did this heist to have.....a normal family life. Loved it. Daniel Craig was great too as Joe Bang. But it was also a funny movie. With some pretty ridiculous scenes. I could envision Sherrif J.W. Pepper suddenly walking into the screen. In a weird twist, Seth MacFarlane played exactly such a role.

    So having said that, if EON wants to bring back some fun, but also some sincere emotional links to the previous films, director Steven Soderbergh should really be considered for the role. Daniel Craig himself only needs to do a call, and the man is onboard :-).

    Agreed.
  • So potential Bond 25 directors from most likely to least likely (right now):

    1. Sam Mendes
    2. Yann Demange
    3. Denis Villeneuve
    4. David Mackenzie
    5. Steven Soderbergh

    Agree? Disagree?
