Title Credits: LALD (love the voodoo, skulls, flames mixed with the title track.)
Main Villain: DN (kanaga/mr big is up there for bond villains but I love DN as a presence and his introduction and dinner scene is a highlight of early Connery.)

Henchman: LALD (Tee hee, baron samedi and whisper are all great fun.)
Overall Plot: DN

Score: LALD (one of my favourite non-Barry scores)

Action: LALD
Humour: LALD (mainly for the line 'names is for tombstones baby' and Moore talking about the genesis of the hat on the bed)

Benign Bizarre: LALD
Suspense: DN
Minor Characters: DN (if I'm not counting the henchmen - samedi, whisper and tee hee- then I'm only left with Felix, quarrel jr and strutter, and I prefer original quarrel, original felix, miss taro and sisters rose and Lilly. Also LALD gets minus points for JW Pepper)
Glamour: DN
Bond Performance: DN
DN: 10
LALD: 7
Both in my top ten so pretty good showing for LALD.
Title Track: Live and Let Die (25-75)
One of the classics that still plays on the radio to this day.
Title Credits: Live and Let Die (40-60)
Appropriately themed between the plot of the film and the sound of the music.
Main Villain: Dr. No (75-25)
A revolutionary villain, but also ill-conceived at times.
Main Bond Girl: Dr. No (55-45)
Two of the best and nearly on equal footing.
Henchman: Live and Let Die (15-85)
Collectively they are very entertaining and give Bond a run for his money.
Overall Plot: Dr. No (85-15)
LALD lacks the clean delivery and grounding exhibited in DN.
Dialogue: Dr. No (75-25)
The difference largely comes from the confrontations with the enemy.
Score: Live and Let Die (40-60)
Two of the weaker soundtracks imo, with the cues in LALD being tied together a little better to the title track.
Settings: Dr. No (80-20)
It was better the first time.
Action: Dr. No (60-40)
The boat chase is a major highlight, but LALD has some action sequences that count against it.
Humor: Live and Let Die (40-60)
Moore brings an air of lightness to the role with the aid of supporting cast.
Cinematography: Dr. No (60-40)
Benign Bizarre: Live and Let Die (25-75)
"Secret agent! On who's side?"
Suspense: Dr. No (65-35)
Minor Characters: Dr. No (60-40)
When comparing the casts, it becomes more apparent how LALD rehashed many of DN's elements; blustered by J.W..
Glamor: Dr. No (65-35)
Bond Performance: Dr. No (65-35)
Moore's first outing is a success, though falling short of one of Connery's classic portrayals.
Dr. No (11) (55-45) (6) Live and Let Die

Title Credits: DN - After LALD's fabulous voodoo motif we're entering the latter of the Binder era where he seemed to phone it in most of the time.
Main Villain: TMWTGG - Exceptionally close but going to give it to Lee by a hairs breath simply because TMWTGG unlikely to win many more here.
Main Bond Girl: DN - Both great to look at in a bikini but the one that doesn't go blundering into things with her arse wins it.
Henchman: DN - Dent is out of his depth against Bond but is suitably sleazy and exudes a bit of menace. Nick Nack is a joke from start to finish (if he'd killed a few people he could've been very scary but the comedy tone of the film killed any chance he had).
Overall Plot: DN - Simple and largely from Fleming rather than a load of tagged on rubbish about a Macguffin no one cares about in the slightest.
Dialogue: DN - Simply far better and classier in every respect (dinner scene with Scaramanga the one glarimg exception).
Score: TMWTGG - I'll give it the nod because Barry's lush strings beat anything by Monty.
Settings: DN - Classic locations in both but DN feels a bit more like really being there.
Action: TMWTGG - Despite the slide whistle an easy win here.
Humour: DN - Kung fu schoolgirls? Sumo wedgie? Elephants pushing rednecks into canals? Relentless Carry On nipple gags? I'll take 'Sergeant make sure he doesn't get away' all day long thanks.
Cinematography: DN - Looks staggering in Bluray.
Benign Bizarre: Tie - Tarantulas, metal hands and three blind mice v dwarves, fun house and extra nipples.
Suspense: DN - Easy win as apart from the duel TMWTGG has none.
Minor Characters: DN - Everyone apart from Bond and Scaramaga are complete imbeciles in TMWTGG.
Glamour: DN - Despite the exotic locations TMWTGG just looks a bit naff. In DN Bond goes from gambling in Mayfair, to being briefed at MI6, to a Pan Am (via a cheeky no strings shag) flight to Jamaica in the space of about 10 minutes.Who doesn't want that life?
Bond Performance: DN - Not even close. Roy does his best with poor material but Sean in DN is pretty close to perfect.

DN is solid but GG is one of my favourites.
Title Credits: DN (I actually love the DN opening titles. I find the MWTGG titles among Binder's least inspiring - especially seeing as from TB to TSWLM this is really the only dud one - he gets a little ropey from MR onwards)
Main Villain: TMWTGG (This is almost a tie - but having rewatched this recently - Lee is outstanding in this film and his performance has moments of really subtlety. Especially in the third act meeting on the island and dinner.)
Main Bond Girl: DN (honey beats goodnight - The weak character of goodnight combined with ekland's limited abilities makes her among my least favourite Bond girls. Just dead weight.)
Henchman: DN (I actually find Nick Nack over rated as a henchman. He is fun but not threatening at all which I think could easily have been rectified with the simplest of touches. I think the opposite is the issue for The Three Blind Mice who get a literal killer opening double whammy of cold blooded brutality but not much more screen time. Add to this Dent's scene with picking up the spider from DN's Island and his death scene are two classics in the Bond canon.)
Overall Plot: DN (TMWTGG is solid to begin with but falls away very quickly. All of Goodnight's involvement in the plot drag the film down and the narrative doesn't seem to know where to go from Andrea Anders death onwards.)
Dialogue: DN (TMWTGG has some good one liners from Moore and excellent dialogue in the scene with Lazar and the dinner scene with Scaramanga but I prefer the taut and menacing dialogue of DN. Mancewicz often does one liners well but his exposition in all his scripts is clumsy. TMWTGG also loses points for somehow achieving the impossible and giving Pepper even worse dialogue than in LALD. It really is cringeworthy.)
Score: DN (TMWTGG is my least favourite Barry score. But that means it's as good as anyone else's Bond score so this is close but I really do love the Jamaican tunes in DN.)
Settings: DN (I like the Far East but DN's Jamaica is presented so beautifully. But I love the sideways ship in TMWTGG!)
Action: TMWTGG (I think both of these are quite light on good action. But for the barrel roll alone TMWTGG wins this.)
Humour: DN (there are some good one liners in TMWTGG. But there is so much poor ham fisted humour. People accuse MR of being ridiculous but there are large swathes of silliness in this film too. It's a tightrope - sometimes it's so weirdly crazy like Wint and Kidd in DAF that it works and other times like most of TMWTGG's humour it just lands like a lead balloon.)
Cinematography: DN (DN's cinematography transports me. TMWTGG has some great sequences too - especially Bond flying into the islands. That is beautiful.)
Benign Bizarre: TMWTGG (funhouse, third nipples, ms Anders coldly dead in the middle of a fight, golden guns, Dutch tilts in the shipwreck - it's all weird fun)
Suspense: DN (TMWTGG has a few suspenseful scenes but I find it one the most laborious of the series when it comes to suspense spread across the narrative.)
Minor Characters: DN (Quarrel and Felix win this one. TMWTGG's are relatively forgettable except for Andrea Anders. I wish they had given her more to do. Her story was the strongest motivating factor in the narrative.)
Glamour: DN (TMWTGG looks sweaty and cheap 70s. I'm not a fan of anything Moore wears - although he looks ok in the finale. However DN is super cool. The casino scene alone looks more glamourous than anything else in TMWTGG.)
Bond Performance: DN (Connery's performance is trendsetting, but I like elements of Moore in TMWTGG. I think this is a film where he really fluctuates in his performance. Obviously he has the harder edged stuff. But he also gets very irritated with Q which is slightly unlike Bond - particularly compared to Moore's usual interpretation.)
DN: 14
TMWTGG: 3
DN is top ten, TMWTGG bottom five for me - so I'd say this is about right. While Lee is uniformly excellent - TMWTGG's enjoyable elements are disparately placed moments that aren't sustained. The Lazar scene is quality, Anders first meeting Bond and specifically Moore's performance in this scene is pure Fleming but his performance fluctuates too much for me. And the weight of the terrible humour and Goodnight drag this film down. It is one of the films where I can see the sets and feel the budget constraints.
