You don't have to watch it, you know?

I mean... it's exactly opposite of the "real life" thing you look for in movies.

The "Kingsman"-franchise, the "Bond"-franchise and the "Mission: Impossible"-franchise are all much more fun, are all a bit more stylish and believable and have better stories.

Yeah. We're sorry that Fast & Furious isn't exactly Jane Eyre.

I much prefer the three prior installments - I think the eighth was a bit too heavy on the CGI for my tastes, but it's still entertaining enough. If you enjoy the others and since you're a completionist with your purchases, I'd recommend picking it up!

It also comes with an extended edition, but unfortunately it's one of those 'digital only' EE's, which is useless to me.

I personally loved the eighth one. So, I recommend it.

I wasn't a huge fan of any of the first four but I loved five and six, thought seven was okay, and while I really liked Jason Statham and The Rock (spin off please) I thought that the last one just felt a bit boring. The novelty has worn off for me. I'd be up for Lin coming back for one more to end the series but they should end it soon imo, you can have too much of a good thing.

Also, I'm kind of surprised that these films have done so well while The Expendables movies couldn't even get to a fourth film. They've basically become the same concept (except FnF has the focus on cars obviously) and of the two I preferred The Expendables. Even enjoyed the third one.

Expect Fast 10 to send the team to the outer space. ;)

That does seem like the perfect ending at this point xD Maybe that could be the spinoff? Terrorists have taken over the international space station and the governments on earth decide that only Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham can save them. I'd watch it.

I don't get why you seem to compare every other action film you watch to Bond, and then hold it against them if they don't match up? FnF isn't supposed to be stylish or believeable. It's a series about street racers who rob lorries eventually turning into mercenaries who do impossible stunts in cool cars. If it isn't your cup of tea fair enough but I don't know what you expected from them. Same with your thoughts on Kingsman 2. It's like you go into these completely different movies wanting a James Bond film and then being disappointed when it's instead exactly what they advertised.

You're allowed not to like those movies obviously, I just don't understand what you expect from them and why you wanted to watch them in the first place based off what they are and what your tastes are.

With that line of thinking we wouldn't be anticipating the 25th Bond film the same year this spinoff comes out. But I get what you mean though.

True that's perhaps a bit hypocritical of me. I'm biased obviously, but I think Bond is genuinely special. There's something magic and timeless there. With FnF the appeal just comes from
how OTT they are and the chemistry the cast have. But cast members come and go and even the ones that are still there will evetually get too old or grow bored, and the novelty of the OTT stuff is starting to wear off imo. Fast Five was a breath of fresh air but the last one it all felt a bit played out to me. I think there's enough life there for one or two more but I'd like them to actually end it there and give us proper closure. And a badass Rock/Statham spin off trilogy obviously.

A bit too heavy on the CGI? You're kidding right ;-). "Furious 8" makes "Skyfall" and "SPECTRE" feel like classically filmed projects from 30 years ago when there was no CGI. "Furious 8" was an excruciatingly mediocre film. Charlize Theron to me wasn't a convincing villain. More of a miscast to be honest. The "cars fall out of skycrapers"-carnage really turned me off. Not to mention all cars in NYC being taken over by....computer controlled driving? Really? And the worst of it all, is the fact that this abomination manages to......cash $1,2 Billion globally. Even "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" was better.

After "Furious 5" and "Furious 6" I was thinking of buying the franchise on BluRay. But as of today I am certain: I will never buy this on BluRay.

Pretty neat trilogy. 6 and 7 were alright but unnecessary. 8 was pretty shit, but I disagree about Theron. She was one of the only good things about it.

I think it's because FF is 'hip' and 'with it'. Sort of like Kingsman but different. Expendables is for old fogeys (I realize Stallone, Arnie and Co. are legends, but they are old news & quite passe for today's 'cool kids'). Moreover, FF plays well with the multi-ethnic crowd and with the women too. It's embraced by the post-MTV millenials.

I reall enjoyed Fast Five and FF6 as well. I'd say 6 is my favourite. If they can dial back the CGI and recapture that awesomeness I'll be very happy.

I think this series has legs. It's all about the 'family' and teamwork. For now it rests on Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto and his ample shoulders but the beauty of it is it can be rebooted.

I disagree. The first film wasn't very good imo, just a Point Break rip off which has aged badly. The fourth one isn't terrible I guess, but 5 and 6 are the gold standard imo. I enjoyed 7 too, not quite as good as the last two but a decent ending. 8 just felt played out and unnecessary but I did really enjoy the bits with Statham and The Rock.

It's difficult to pick only a few films because they're all so connected. Even Tokyo Drift is relevant because of the Han stuff. I think 5, 6 and 7 are definitely the best but you can't start with them. In the end I'd say it's worth watching them all. Even the terrible ones are enjoyable in a stupid dumb fun kind of way. They're never really boring and I think to really appreciate the good ones you need to see what they started out as. Part of the fun is thinking about the ridiculous way things have escalated since the first one.

To be honest while I like the original team and the whole "family" aspect, The Rock has been the star for me since Fast Five. And now Statham is there and they make a really fun duo. I think that 7 should have been left as the end for the family (they handled it beautifully but it really isn't the same without Paul imo) and they should have moved onto Rock/Statham spinoffs.

I think you're right about Expendables too and I think it's a real shame that those old legends aren't big enough draws anymore because while I thought the first was underwhelming, the second one was a lot of fun, and I know everyone hated the third one but I thought it had its moments (every scene with Mel Gibson, Arnie and Jet Li ending up as a couple, the opening prison break on the train, etc). It was a mistake to sideline most of the old stars in the second act though, especially since aside from Ronda Rousey, I don't think anyone had any idea who the new guys are. Why not cast genuine young action stars. I know there's not many but there are bigger names they could have used. Iko Uwais for example. They should have gone for guys with at least some sort of recognisability if they're going to be taking screentime away from the likes of Statham and Arnie.

I hope at some point they do manage to make a fourth one, that's on par with the second movie and feels like a proper ending. Get Dalton or Brosnan in there too.

The only ones in the series I really bother with anymore are 5-8. The first one is fairly solid but nothing I'm dying to ever rewatch, I haven't seen the second one in ages but enjoyed it as a teen, and I didn't care for the third and fourth installments.

We can all agree that Tokyo Drift is the weakest.
  • We can all agree that Tokyo Drift is the weakest.

I'm not sure. It's not great but I definitely prefer it to the first two (because it's actually a decent film) and I think I'd take it over the fourth just because it's actually fun and has a sense of energy to it.

For me it'd probably be 5>6>7>8>3>2>1 (I prefer 2 over the first because it's at least enjoyable in a so bad it's good way).

I rather liked the fourth. It was an improvement over the street punk car jacking crew stories. It was becoming more interesting, if you ask me, which is when they changed the formula.

Then, CGI Paul Walker, as I was speculating, will be coming back for the last one. I'm guessing his wife will be kidnapped at the end of the ninth film, paving the way in for him to come back in the last one in search for Jordana's character.

That's fair about the first one. It is essentially Point Break with cars. And there is nothing wrong with that at all - it was very effective and will age about as well as the CG fests that came after it.

1,4, and 5 for me are the only essential ones when it comes to telling a full story. Brian, Dom and Mia. 4 is actually quite underrated, I think. Bringing back Letty really undermines the more emotional heft that they tried to inject into it. Pity about the CGI, too. But overall it's quite good.

6 wasn't bad, it had a couple of neat moments but overall wasn't anywhere near as good as 5. Extra points for the Carano/Rodriguez smackdown, though.

7 started out well for the first half hour but quickly fell into mediocrity, and 8 started out very badly and just got worse.

    They'll never top Fast Five.
