I disagree wholeheartedly. The Brosnan titles, the non-Fleming ones were fascinating enough. I don't see how it is lazy and in any way pathetic. They're exactly how a Bond title should be in my honest opinion. Poetic depth in a three or four word title is precisely what I'm looking for in a Bond title.

I don't understand why a title need be creative. Apt and Flemingesque are what I look for.

The title "Spectre" came from Fleming, but it still felt uninspired as the title of the 24th James Bond film. I couldn't see, for instance, Fleming titling his next JB novel after Golden Gun "Spectre."

@Some_Kind_Of_Hero, I am actually dreading the possibility of Blofeld as the title for B25. It's admittedly more unlikely now thanks to Waltz's nondescript performance, but still remains a concern.

I suppose it could be worse...it could be called "Ernst". Actually more likely "James".
I really abhor the trend of lazy titles these past few years. I'm probably missing out on some good films because the titles have turned me away. I never did see "Jason Bourne" or 'Logan".
I didn't really mind the title "Spectre", but it did seem a bit uninspired.

At least we've not had the following yet (I guess we'll have to wait for the reboots for this):

    "OO7"
    "Bond"

Yes. I'd probably bet my Blu-ray of OHMSS that if Eon actually were to sell Bond, the rights could go to any handful of studios that would find "007" or "Bond" acceptable titles. Then we probably would get a film with such an awful title.

Activision should be sued then, because the Italian backcover for 007 Legends stated that Dr. No was included, when it actually wasn't.

    Not Spectre. Spectreville! [Emphasis mine.]

Lots of speculation here. Nice. So let me try to understand this. They spent a lot of money requiring the rights to Blofeld and SPECTRE, made a movie about SPECTRE where Blofeld survives... and then suddenly Bond 25 is speculated to take an entirely different path? Shatterhand? Yet another crime syndicate? Hardly! Or am I missing something here.

They could simply use Spectre to fill the role of The Union and Shatterhand being a pseudonym/nickname of Blofeld it would make sense.

This forums alone has been suggesting that title for some time. So, I wouldn't be surprised if it was lifted from here and strapped onto a fake news report.

Do we really have that much influence? My personal bet would have been The Hildebrand Rarity. But I'd be happy with Shatterhand.
Where do you think some writers these days get their film/book ideas? Anything available on the internet they get "inspired by" or actually steal from. And MI6 Community is the most popular James Bond forums site, so of course that's the first place they'd look.

So if anyone complains about the title of QOS: that was my idea. Or at least I was one of those who wanted the title to be used

A one-word title really has to be good to work, and not feel lazy. Skyfall felt a bit "meh" to me, and Spectre felt uninspired. Still, both titles were very relevant, so I can understand why they went with them.

Personally, I love the multi-word titles.

The people who made 007 Legends should be publicly flogged. Not having Dr No in the game when they wrote about him on the back was the least of their crimes against humanity.

If 007 Legends is all the source of abomination, then so should be GoldenEye 007: Reloaded and its Wii counterpart since they were the same game only with different levels, story and characters.

I agree with this. For a change, I say we need our next Bond title to be a sentence, not a phrase.

Fleming made the best titles for James bond I mean just think about it, they can't be touched by any original film title or non fleming novel title

They are legendary and quite iconic. Agreed.

I'd love to see the plot to match the title! I do hope cowgirl costumes and football boots will be involved!

I was for awhile as well. But I'm more and more confident neither Mendes nor Waltz will return. Blofeld will, for sure, but once the series moves in a new direction, I think (hope) we'll have less fear for a film titled "Blofeld."

    Wow--a seven-letter S-word.
    I LOVE IT!
  • I've always found Spectre to be a lazy title too. And I've never thought the non Fleming Brosnan era titles were that bad at all really. Tomorrow Never Dies I don't mind but Tomorrow Never Lies would have been so much better. Die Another Day I actually like and I enjoyed how they worked it into the film.

I still think Quantum Of Solace is the worst title by a wide margin. It doesn't sound sexy or dangerous or cool. It sounds weird and pretentious. It's Fleming for the sake of it imo. And the filmmakers didn't even have the balls to commit to it so they had to add a literal meaning at the last minute that made the SP retcon worse: imagine if instead of the last minute hamfisted "I told you everything you wanted to know about Quantum", the mysterious organisation stayed unnamed. Then we'd have no confusion. They could have easily just been Spectre. If they had to use a Fleming title for the film I would have rather Property of a Lady. That would've fit. I don't really like that one either but it's better than QoS.

Imo, the only decent Fleming title left is Risico. Outside of that they should leave it. I really really hope the little nod in SP means we'll never get a Bond film called The Hilderbrand Rarity. Chapter titles and phrases are fair game though. Shatterhand would make a brilliant title and I'm sure they will use it eventually.

On the topic of chapter titles, maybe they'll use "Blood and Thunder".

An obvious thing to take on for titles is a foreign language name or phrase, the short story "Risico" is one example.
Another is the Casino Royale chapter title Rouge Et Noir.
Though that one would attract the usual complaint that "Bond has gone rouge again".

Daniel Craig is Ian Fleming's James Bond in "The Pizniss of Much Risico" :P
