Had to look it up. It was alright I guess. It did remind me of the original Tomb Raider game a bit.

I know people are allowed to have their own opinions and all, but if baffles me whenever somebody doesn't have Goldeneye in their top 10 rankings. The film is ultimately what kicked off the Modern Bond era, and it did so with a bang. You can make the case for why the rest of the Brosnan era wasn't so great, but Goldeneye is one of the finest films that EON made. It has such energy that hasn't been seen in the series since TSWLM. It brought us 4 of the best villains/henchmen that this series has ever seen. It's sets (while not being on the level of Ken Adams) are amazing, and it's action set pieces are spectacular as well.
    Well said. Completely in agreement.

The GoldenEye overture is a thing of beauty. :)
+1. I love the score. Much more inventive than what came after in my view.

It's so chilling and ominous to me, perfectly sets the mood and the scene. It might not be amped up and fun like Barry's tracks, and it's definitely not something I'd be whistling to myself, but it's a lovely track nevertheless.

I think a few of Newman's ambient Tracks were good in both films but I think he did a poor job with the action sadly.

SF's score was great imho. SP's was rubbish.

Most of his action tracks were entirely forgettable, which is a shame.

@bondjames, but they're one and the same!

Serra was asked back too. He turned it .[/quote]

Do you have a source for this? I've only seen articles that state the producers hated his score. Why would they ask Serra back when they had to pay another composer to re-score the tank chase?

@Creasy47, I knew that was coming! I almost wanted to end my comment with that caveat.

There are recycled tracks sure, but the parts that aren't recycled are what I liked best about SF's score. Shanghai Drive, New Digs, The Chimera, Severine, Tennyson, Welcome to Scotland etc. are all excellent imho. I really like The Moors in SF too because it's only 2.39 minutes in the earlier film and not more like 20 minutes of endless drone as it is in SP.

DN FRWL GF OHMSS GE in your Top 5 and mentioning TSWLM.
    I applaud you Sir.

    GF-OHMSS-TSWLM-GE-CR

"Tastes differ" and "imho" aside I think those five should and probably are viewed in general as the true greats by any fan who can think objectively.

    Ho hum.

Someone on here mentioned it a few days ago somewhere.

I'll take that as hearsay then.

    This on the other hand.....http://jamesbondradio.com/composer-john-altman-explains-what-went-wrong-with-goldeneyes-score-exclusive-by-matthew-chernov/.

"I got a phone call on the Friday before the film’s release, which was literally a week away, saying “Could you come in?” And I turned to my assistant and said “It’s the tank chase! I know it!” Because I’d heard what Eric had written for the tank chase, which had no orchestration at all. It was all sort of synthesized, and was very low-key and didn’t cut through. It was eccentric. He took it into a weird space of oriental disco.

And what happened was, they were dubbing the film, and they literally had a revolution of the dubbing editor and the editor, who said “I want my name off this movie if this cue stays in. This is the highlight of the film. It’s not James Bond. It’s not what we’re used to.” They’d all worked on the classic John Barry scores. And they said “This is not James Bond! This is a different film!”

The Broccoli family was a bit baffled by what Eric was giving them. So everyone was a bit wary.

All I remember is Michael Wilson saying “IF I’D KNOWN YOU WERE THIS QUICK I’D GIVEN YOU THE WHOLE FILM.” (John Altman).

I doubt Serra was asked back.

Seems crazy since Producers weren't happy with the GE score.

My compliments on that list @ToTheRight. We fundamentally differ on GF, TLD & AVTAK (which I have significantly lower) and GE, QoS & TMWTGG (which I have quite a bit higher). Still, not bad at all.

Thanks! They are very difficult (but fun) to rank as I love them all...even DAD and CR'67. My top 10 are pretty easy and pretty much change very little.

Yes, I think most people have a pretty firm top 10 or 5. I always am surprised by how many people rank LALD/FYEO and sometimes TLD very close together in and around the #'s 10 to 15 spots.

It's been a year since I've done this. Last time I ranked them totally objectively, and this time it's half objective, half (or maybe more) on my enjoyment of them. Most notably, SP moves way up.

    1. Dr. No
    2. Casino Royale
    3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    4. Skyfall
    5. SPECTRE
    6. Goldfinger
    7. From Russia With Love
    8. Quantum Of Solace
    9. For Your Eyes Only
    10. Thunderball
    11. The Spy Who Loved Me
    12. GoldenEye
    13. Moonraker
    14. The Man With The Golden Gun
    15. The Living Daylights
    16. You Only Live Twice
    17. The World Is Not Enough
    18. Octopussy
    19. Tomorrow Never Dies
    20. License To Kill
    21. A View To A Kill
    22. Diamonds Are Forever
    23. Die Another Day
    24. Live And Let Die

Never Say Never Again just after License to Kill.

I think it's almost pointless to try and rank all the Bond movies because really how much I like one over another would depend on my mood and what I'm more interested in at the time. For sure I would know what my top 3 or 5 are and what my bottom 3 are. Those have never changed unless a new Bond film comes out and takes a spot.

    1. GoldenEye
    2. Casino Royale
    3. From Russia With Love

    22. For Your Eyes Only
    23. Octopussy
    24. A View To A Kill

I'm currently trying to finish up my Bondathon with the Craig era. I may try to do a full ranking list after I finish it.
