Slightly lower @Birdleson. More on account of some others (which I believe I've been unduly harsh on) being nudged up. I'll give it a viewing shortly and see if I can reassess positively.

@JamesBondKenya, I've never been a fan of GF. I used to really like it as a kid, but I find it quite dull, pace wise, these days. I recognize it's an iconic film, but I think the template it created has been done better in more recent entries & I don't have any nostalgic connection to the film like some because I only came across it much later. Moreover, like some others, I think it slows to a snail's pace in Kentucky, and furthermore I don't think Hamilton gets the most out of Connery (he's a bit goofy in this film, compared to his more deadly Bond in the Young entries which remain the benchmark for me). So this is one entry where I disagree with most of the forum.

I really like the first 2/3 of YOLT (in fact, the earlier parts in Japan are top 5 for me in a Bond film just on atmosphere alone), but once the marriage thing kicks in I lose interest every time. Again, I find Moore nails the big spectacle much better than Connery does. It's more his style.

I have to admit my recent viewings of YOLT have not been good! It starts well, but the whole marriage/training section and the long traipse to the spectacular finale make it a bit of a chore to watch. Connery on auto pilot too, he was right to step aside after this!

None of that stuff seems to bother me or put a damper on the runtime/pacing. I don't know what it is, but I enjoy it all, and YOLT is so easily rewatchable to me.

I think the cinematography, direction and score make up for the...hollow nature of YOLT.

    It's also a film I consider a lot of fun @Creasy47.

Mine too. It's never been a favorite, but YOLT fell all the way down to the 23rd spot on my last ranking.

Wow, there's two Moore films that you don't outright hate? Are you feeling okay today, Telly?

@TellyBlofeld, I think the community should collectively pay for a ticket to send you to one of the "An Afternoon with Sir Roger Moore" events. Hopefully you will have a reappraisal after meeting Sir Rog!

EDIT: Your list isn't too bad imho, apart from the curious lack of Moore entries in the higher echelon.

    Yes, I'm good :)

As I hear that Sir Roger is a very nice man, that would be great.

I used to like YOLT a lot more years back. The last few watches for me made me feel it is the clear weakest of Connery's first five, yet still pretty enjoyable. I consider it a middling Bond film.
  • I think YOLT is much better than DAF. Just me tho.

I'm in agreement, but damn, if I haven't enjoyed DAF over the last couple of years. There are some truly great moments in it - a solid cast, the elevator fight, the Wint and Kidd pairing, etc. Just like AVTAK, I always have a blast when I fire it up, no matter how low it may rank.

I also agree with that; I think a lot of people would. The entire golden age (DN through OHMSS) is really great overall; I just think YOLT is the least good of the six. Still way better than DAF.

I can't seem to remember a point where that was lacking.

The last time I recall being impressed by real stuntwork in the series was the parkour chase at the beginning of CR (and flipping the Aston several times). So yes, I think it's been lacking. SP had the helicopter flipping in mid-air, which was okay, but hardly original as the whole sequence was lifted from FYEO and quickly resorted to embarrassing green screen anyway. To quote Angelo Palazzi: "Not enough. The helicopter flip is not enough."

  • I think the stuntwork in QoS is pretty impressive.
A flawed, maligned but underrated picture, for me.
Better than Spectre, I'll state that.

Agreed on all fronts - although I enjoyed Spectre as well.

I enjoyed SP as well, there's just a solid tone to QoS that does not descend into silliness like Spectre. Plus Bond is such a tough guy in QoS, none of this 'let's take a tux onto the mission with me' stuff.

That's not a bad list. I'm surprised to see someone rate QoS that much higher than CR though. I guess Laz's effort doesn't count for you?

He's much better here than in TMWTGG. I've always liked ole JW personally. His wife in the later film is a hoot also. The boat chase gets a lot of flack, but I've always really enjoyed it as it's very atmospheric and real. It's refreshing to see a sequence like that without CGI or model work.

I have LALD knocking on the basement door. Sheriff Pepper is one of the elements that prevents it from being in the basement. How unique is that? :-\"
