Casino Royale 1967 Gunbarrel

I always wondered about the deleted gunbarrel sequence that was in it but later cut out and replaced with the strange Peter Sellers scene.
Surely someone must have seen the film when it ran in the cinema's and saw if it was intact there?

I'm not that familiar with this film. Was there really a gunbarrel sequence? Did they not know about copyright?

Yes I know for sure it was filmed and cut for the exact the reasons you mentioned.
I Just wanted to know if there were any members old enough on this forum to remember seeing the original print in the cinema.

Yes it was there as a spoof, a popping cork sound used instead of a gunshot.

Here's some negatives of an old print of the film but i'm not sure if it's in it. Should be right before the first one as the gunbarrel fades out following the title sequence.

They did of course use the gunbarrel in The Simpsons too.

Must say that I never knew about this. What is the source for it?

:) Oh @BradyOMatic.... Have you heard about this my friend?
  • I'll be following this thread pretty closely. Also, I wonder how the NSNA gunbarrel-like sequence would have been. As far as I know, we only have the soundtrack for it. IMHO of the very few nice pieces from that vomit-inducing score from the hugely overrated Michel Legrand: a very tense percussion crescendo and then two or three explosions.

Never knew that there was a gunbarrel for NSNA either. This thread has been very revelatory in nature to say the least of it!

    Like this?

Indeed a shame they didn't use this in the final cut.

That's just TLD's gunbarrel with Sean's head pasted on Tim.

It's a reconstruction but much more realistic than the above video where you can see the head pasted really obviously.
Also seem to match the tuxedo he was wearing in the movie.

I'm trying to recap more info, as I wrote the NSNA gunbarrel thing from memory. While some sources claim McClory wanted to do a gunbarrel-like sequence (not a gunbarrel "per se"), the, uh, officiality of the info can be disputed.
The only clue we have is a discarded cue from the soundtrack (track #01, Bond Back
    In Action
: here's a preview from Silva Screen Records.). From here on, we can start the actual discussion unless somebody provides better information.

IIRC, that track was used as the music for a teaser well before the movie was shown. It played over an assortment of pics from the movie in the theaters at the time. I remember it well.
