Hey there folks, thanks for the go-ahead and thoughts on all this. Now, on to the final bit of business before Friday.

Sometime before Friday hits and we start this Bondathon with Dr. No, anyone who wants to post a pre-Bondathon ranking of all 24 films can now use this time to do so. You don't have to if you don't want to, but for those that do (like myself), I think it will be interesting to compare your current ranking of the films to what your ranking of them all will look like at the very end of this Bondathon some six months from now. That leaves plenty of time for new impressions to form, or changes in how we experience these films to occur.

So, I'll kick things off with my own current ranking of all 24 Bond films:

    1.) Casino Royale
    2.) From Russia With Love
    3.) Thunderball
    4.) Dr. No
    5.) Quantum of Solace
    6.) Spectre
    7.) Skyfall
8.) On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
    9.) Licence to Kill
    10.) The Living Daylights
    11.) Goldfinger
    12.) Goldeneye
13.) The Spy Who Loved Me
    14.) For Your Eyes Only
    15.) Octopussy
    16.) You Only Live Twice
    17.) Live and Let Die
    18.) Diamonds Are Forever
19.) The World is Not Enough
20.) The Man with the Golden Gun
    21.) Tomorrow Never Dies
    22.) Moonraker
    23.) A View To a Kill
    24.) Die Another Day

    Good lord that was hard.

I seriously look forward to contributing to this thread. While my last Bond-a-thon was all over the place, this time I'll try to remain faithful to the one Bond/per week schedule. As a massive Bond fan, I surmise it shouldn't be too difficult.

Current ranking as of August 31, 2016:

    1. Casino Royale
    2. Skyfall
    3. Goldeneye
    4. Goldfinger
    5. Spectre
    6. From Russia With Love
    7. The Spy Who Loved Me
    8. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    9. Quantum of Solace
    10. The Living Daylights
    11. Live and Let Die
    12. Dr. No
    13. Thunderball
    14. The World is Not Enough
    15. Moonraker
    16. Tomorrow Never Dies
    17. Octopussy
    18. License to Kill
    19. A View to a Kill
    20. You Only Live Twice
    21. For Your Eyes Only
    22. Die Another Day
    23. The Man With the Golden Gun
    24. Diamonds are Forever

For the record, there is not one Bond film that I loathe. You can always find different elements to enjoy in each film.

This is a mammoth undertaking. Can't wait!

Same. I neglect the Moore and Brosnan films too much.

@DaltonCraig007, same. What kept it from the bottom of my ranking was the idea of Bond going against an equally skilled assassin (love that idea), the funhouse set, the location shooting, and Anders as an interesting Bond girl (with a femme fatale flair).

I don't foresee it shifting in my ranking in any special way, but I think I'll enjoy it nonetheless, now that the Connery fanboy in me has long given way to a more open-minded Bond fan, thank Fleming for that. I can't wait to see TSWLM, FYEO and OP again, as those are the best of the Moore era for me, and I can get a real kick out of them.

In the context of Russian and western detentes, and how Gogol is used as a Gorbachev like figure in that film, I love it. TSWLM, FYEO and OP especially represent times when the Bond films dared to feature plots that at some points foresaw or replicated an easing of tensions with the real-world Russia and western powers like Britain and America, with those world leaders aped in the forms of Gogol, M and Bond.

I don't see those elements of those films given much credit, but I truly adore them for exploring those ideas.
