Connery did a FRWL game in 2005, which film/actor would you like to see with a game next?

Sean Connery doing You Only Live Twice. I think it would be an amazing game.

Probably one of the more classic ones. The Spy Who Loved Me would be fantastic, maybe For Your Eyes Only or Octopussy as well. I could also see Licence to Kill being a good video game.

I've always found it interesting that Agent Under Fire was, at one point, going to star Moore.

Licence to kill was already made in 007 Legends.

I'd rather they stay away from any more From Russia With Love-style games. The game was so-so, but the big draw, getting to play as Connery, was what really let the game down. They did a solid job with making Bond look like Connery, but actually bringing Connery back to do the voice was a mistake, as his voice (quite obviously) sounded far too old for the character that was actually speaking it.

Any other Bond games in this style would certainly run into similar issues, plus the fact that a lot of the films wouldn't make for great game adaptations anyway. I'd rather not see them do to the other films what was done to From Russia With Love in order to turn it into a video game.

Would be fun if just for nostalgia to feature Sir Roger. Some have mentioned TSPWLM and I agree but a new adventure would be fun if somewhat confusing for new fans.

Methinks Sean Connery should do another Bond game set in the early 1960s, but I would've preferred if it wasn't based on any of his films.

Dalton doing The Living Daylights. Opening Gibrlatar sequence including parachuting in, scaling walls, evading capture, then the chase on foot and jumping on the jeep and veering through the narrow streets before flying over the edge and escaping with the parachute and landing on the boat with Margo's friend. I can already see the cut scene recreation of Dalton's famous head turn as he hears the cry of a falling fellow 00 agent. Then on to sniper shooting and safe house destruction (perhaps you play as necros in this scene?) the car chase through the snow with the Aston and its arsenal at your disposal as well as the cello sledding. The foot chase through Tangiers and Of course the whole escape from a Russian Airbase and then return to attack the airbase and plane fight lends itself to a gaming scenario. All backed by the original Barry score. Love it. Want to play it now!

Honestly I would love one for each actor. Also would love it if they each had original stories :)

I want to play this right now as well!

Maybe a double bill with Licence to Kill? Like they did with CR/QOS.

Dalton is my favourite Bond and I'd love to play as him in a video game but I don't see the point in adaptations. Why play through a Bond film that already exists when we can have a whole new one in video game form? They really nailed that with Nightfire imo. It felt like a Bond film. Everything Or Nothing, despite the cast and everything, felt a lot more gamey (going back to MI6 between missions to get a million new gadgets for example). Nightfire was a shorter game but that actually worked in its favour because it meant it felt a lot more cinematic. It played out like a Bond film. A dumb, OTT Bond film, but it still felt like a movie. It was brilliantly paced imo.

So yeah I'd love to see more games with the old actors but I actually think original stories are the best idea. Lazenby for example was the only Bond to never get a second film but with the way OHMSS ended, he's also the Bond that most needed one. So why not do an OHMSS sequel in game form? The 60s setting would make it unique amongst modern action games and you could integrate flashbacks of OHMSS (Tracy's death, etc) so that the story wasn't confusing for new players.

Oh wait, I forgot, this is EON we're talking about. They'd never approve something so creative for a video game, not when they can give us 007 Legends or some crappy mobile game. There's nobody I'd rather have in charge of the films, but seriously it's clear that they don't have a clue when it comes to the videogames. They got lucky with GE and the better EA titles but it's clear to me that they just pass the licence off to the highest bidder and as long as they make a quick buck, couldn't care less about the quality of the product. But this has backfired on them since Activisions shocking mishandling of the franchise seems to have basically killed any value that the licence had.

Bond didn't necessarily go back to MI-6 to just collect gadgets. He just didn't have a direct link to follow from one city to another, and he had to analyze the case with the evidence he brought in with M and the other staff. It makes perfect sense to me. The only thing I didn't like about Everything or Nothing was its segment in Moscow.

They should let George Lazenby do a game, a stand alone game. It could almost be another movie for him.

Sort of how the ghostbusters cast did the ghostbusters game in 2009 which was essentially the third movie

Absolutely correct! It was evident that they would pass the license on to the highest bidder when they sold it to EA instead of Rare. Rare had just given them a hugely successful game that was, and still is, considered by many to be one of the greatest games of all time, and they turned around and gave the rights to EA. What did they get that time? A game some call one of the worst of all time.

Eon had a slew of hits and misses with video games ...

EA gave us classic games like from Russia with love Nightfire and everything or nothing
They also gave us 007 racing Goldeneye rogue agent and agent under fire

Activision gave us Quantum of Solace (ps2) bloodstone and of course Quanutm of solace for the 360 and Goldeneye

But also. Poor marketing for bloodstone (seriously release goldeneye on all councils in 2011) and 007 legends and well yeah

You know? It would be a treat if Eon dismembers the Bond games from the films and actually lets the publishers do their own thing... And hire a known face (my vote would go for Dominic West) to portray Bond in the games for a two or three installments. You know, like DC/Warner is treating the Batman franchise, I believe MGM Interactive has to give the games' publishers that liberty and indication.

I agree with you, I've been saying this for ages. Your man on the street doesn't give a damn if there's a YOLT game or what have you... They just want a good game, period. GE 64 was a massive success because it was firstly a seminal game and secondly a Bond game. Hence why Reloaded was a turd. Everyone gets Bond-lore, it's finding a studio who have a great concept and then bringing the world of Bond into it. Much like the continuation novels, I'd be happy for the games to stand on their own.

I couldn't agree more! GoldenEye 007 isn't a success because it was a Bond game, but it was a great game first and foremost, a game changer within the industry. Rare figured out what should they have done with the game primarily and shot the bolt afterwards, then with all the concept they had, they threw in the Bond assets (the PPK, the gadgets, homages to old films, etc) and made it work. The thing is, Splinter Cell was also pitched as Bond game first and imagine how much of a success the Bond series would have gained had they followed the great ideas. Like you said, they don't give a damn if it's a YOLT or a DAD game, as long as it's a good game and sells well, that'd be the point. I'd give them that liberty if I were Eon...

But, personally, I wouldn't want a QTE game like what TellTale would do with all due respect, nor would I desire to see Bond go back to being a sidescroller adventure game like Curve Digital suggested earlier this year... Well, basically they didn't suggest, just all they do are sidescrollers the last time I checked.

I would take Adrian turner as bond in a video game at this point just to have a new 007 game. it's been what nearly 4 year now....

Nearly. Yes. 4 years since 007 Legends came out.
  • I'd like a game where we get a new adventure from each of the actors (Connery should use a voice double this time round, though).

Connery: A mission set inbetween TB and YOLT. Could be a stand alone or TB/FRWL esque (SPECTRE feature but Blofeld is just lurking in the background for the time being). I like the idea of a more faithful MR adaptation (but obviously change the names the film used)

Lazenby: Direct, revenge driven sequel to OHMSS. Show flashbacks to that film to give new players the context

Moore: A big blockbuster complete with Jaws and a brilliant Ken Adams esque level for the finale. Could be set in 1978, could form sort of a trilogy with TSWLM and MR

Dalton: Story wise could be anything, I do like the idea of a TMWTGG scenario: after LTK, Bond is given an assassination to prove his worth as an agent again, but things excalate, etc. Or they could just make the whole game Dalton and I'd be happy

Brosnan: I'd take a more interesting approach here. Set it a good few
years after DAD and make it a badass, violent coming out of retirement story. Give him the send off he deserved

Craig: Set it between QoS and SF. Give him the standalone Bond on a mission film he never got but reference his first two so it still has the continuity that's become a signature of his era

Would never sell, though. It's the dictionary definition of niche.

I dunno, most of the Bond games sold well. Give it some cool trailers, some innovative gameplay features, a big budget and a decent multiplayer combined with the fact we haven't had a good blockbuster Bond game since EON and I reckon it'd do alright.

Some of the plots seem pretty niche, looking at it now, but it's not like anyone would go "I'd like to play this cool looking game, but I haven't seen OHMSS, so I'll have to pass". Max Payne 3 was a huge success for example and I doubt everyone who bought it had played the first two. Same with Fallout 3 and Far Cry 3 (I never played any of them before those). I think actually making a good game that gets good reviews will drive sales regardless of how much fan service they include.

I think the best route they can go down is either that, an original story with just Craig or the Arkham route (give the games their own Bond universe with their own actors). I just really, really don't want a film tie in. Give me a new story (or stories).

Agree with the above (bolded), as we were saying above. I just don't buy the ideas you outlined above as starting points. I think the starting point should be the gameplay, how can they subvert people's expectations? You see Bond, you think FPS. Can someone totally reinvent Bond gaming. For that I feel you then need to have free reign to create a world from scratch.

  • Yeah a fresh start would probably be the best option.

I wouldn't mind a first person or third person game, but I think they need to tone down the action in comparison to the other games. It shouldn't be a shooter. You don't need Bond slaughtering armies for the whole thing and shooting down a helicopter every other level to make it exciting. I think the worst example of this is the film tie ins/adaptations. At least in the original storied games these action scenes don't feel out of place. But Bond shooting up the casino in the middle of CR or fighting a mech at the end of FRWL just feels so jarring unnecessary and wrong.

I'd make the action less excessive but to compensate for this make fights harder. Make a fist fight with four guys just as lengthy, engaging and exciting as a gunfight with 10. Maybe include detective elements and a lot of choice so it feels like you're actually carrying out the mission. Not an open world, but definitely big open levels.

I think variety is also the key. Bond isn't just a hand with a gun that occasionally drives a gadget filled car and the games should reflect that. Make the firefights and punch ups different and memorable. The best Bond games (Nightfire and EON) have quite a bit of variety and make you feel like you're in a Bond film, but I'd take things a step further. Include slower paced detective sections, gambling, maybe the story could be sometimes progressed through dialogue and action choices. Variety, player choice, and something that really feels like Bond. That's what I want.

I remember watching a video about the making of Perfect Dark. In the video, they said that their plan when making the game was; "We're going to make a game. We're going to make it good. And it will be ready when it's ready." If they applied that to modern Bond games, and all games in general, things would be much better.

I kind of don't think they will, though.

They turned down the chance to make a second Bond game (Tomorrow Never Dies) and went on to Perfect Dark instead, back then, I doubt they're interested in the franchise. The crew, that is.

I watched the Sean Connery interview in the game and I feel bad for him because he was genuinely excited for the game and wanted it to be successful as the film but too bad the game did poorly. It was a good game.
