That would be a different thread. We're talking Classic here.

He's certainly not classic film star yet. Whatever he thinks of himself.

That said he'd make a great Mr Big.

Yes, he probably would. But not what I intended with this thread.

Is there any Bond villain that could have been played by Orson Welles?

Welles played LeChiffre in CR '67.

He would make a fine Hugo Drax.

Jack Nicholson as one of the gangsters in the Goldfinger or buisnessmen in the TMWGG books. (stop me if I've posted this one before)

Jack Palance was the first choice for Scaramanga....he would have been excellent ..( as was Sir Christopher Lee,anyway of course).....
  • StirredNotShakenStirredNotShaken I'm gonna use this to clarify that Dalton is tied with Craig

Le Chiffre - Mads Mikkelsen is perfect. I do not have a subsitute.
    Mr. Big - Sidney Poitier!
    Hugo Drax - Alec Guinness!
    Spang Bros. - Marlon Brando!
Red Grant - Still Robert Shaw for me.
Dr. No - Come on. Wiseman is GOLD in the role.
Auric Goldfinger - Now this is the one thing about GF that I think is unimpeachable. Gert Fröbe is just... god. He's just so good.
Blofeld (in silhouette) - Anthony Dawson, of course!
    Emilo Largo - Christopher Lee!
Blofeld (OHMSS) - I really like Savalas so let's keep him.
    Stromberg - Julian Glover!
Blofeld (YOLT, appearance changed) - Anthony Quinn!
    Paco Scaramanga - Eli Wallach!
    Kristatos - Topol!
Kamal Khan - But of course, Louis Jourdan!
Max Zorin - Harrison Ford! A left field choice!
    Koskov - Stephen Berkoff!
    Whitaker - Tommy Lee Jones!
Milton Krest - Anthony Zerbe is so slimy and perfect.
Sanchez - My favourite Bond villain ever, so naturally I'm sticking with Robert Davi.
    Trevelyan - Anthony Hopkins!
    Carver - Peter O'Toole!
    Elektra King - Sophie Marceau!
    Renard - Sean Bean!
    Colonel Sun-kil-Moon - Choi Min-sik!
    Dominic Greene - Christopher Eccleston!
Raoul Silva - Hahahahahaha. You're bonkers to even consider replacing him. JAVIER BARDEEEEMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!
    Blofeld (SPECTRE) - Michael Fassbender!

Let's not lose sight of the thread. Several are too recent to fall under the blanket of Classic Film stars. However, I am glad to see that there are still those interested in participating.

Some great suggestions here. I'm going to have a think about this but would like to suggest Kien Shih as Dr No. He played Han (the baddie) in Enter The Dragon. The two characters are alike in many ways - they even have artificial hands! IMO Kien Shih would have made a great Dr No opposite SC & the end fight scene would have been very special. He even had a Blofeld style white cat!

Interesting. Hard for me to see anyone but Bernard Lee. Maybe C. Aubrey Smith.

Yes but they wouldn't have made Skyfall in the 50s or 60s or 70s. I'm basing this off of when the films came out and nothing more.

While he's not a "classic" star, big Clint Walker ( The Dirty Dozen, Night of the Grizzly) could have been a very imposing Red Grant.

Decided to necropost a bit. I'm watching the 1939 version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame right now. And I've just paused on a scene where Sir Cedric Hardwicke sits with a white fluffy cat on his lap (along with a dozen more) playing the villain. He looks like a good Blofeld to me: menacing enough, good voice and looks and an excellent career as an actor.

Of course that in the novels Blofeld doesn't have a cat...

James Mason as Karl Stromberg...real menace..

    Alain Delon as Vargas.

What an improvement must that have been!
