Yes, get those BD sets ;)

A significant amount of original footage was cut from the episode during editing, but was restored for the TNG Season 2 Blu-ray release. The "extended edition" features an 57-minute version of the episode, containing approximately thirteen minutes of restored scenes and visual effects.

Amazon have all seven seasons of TNG box set on BD for £70, that can't be right the individual seasons are around £30 each. :-O

I know a lot was cut for TV when it first aired.

I wanted to buy the speelboek blu-ray seasons of TAG. But they are insanely expensive. My question for @BondJasonBond006: Are you rich? :-o

How many episodes per season do you think "Star Trek 2017" will have?

Those steelbooks are fabulous and they only cost 5 Euro more than the standard versions.

The new season of ST will have 13 episodes if it starts in January.
Possibly cancelled after 8 episodes. It's stupid CBS. Why not the CW if it must be one of the big networks? There 7 seasons would have been guaranteed.

I can't believe they haven't learned from the past.

'The Good Wife' and 'Limitless' so far are very successful CBS productions.

Furthermore, "Star Trek" is owned by CBS television. They have every right to prove themselves. And if I were a CBS exec I would be quite sceptical to outsource a "Star Trek" production to people from WB (CW tv). 'the Flash' and 'The 100' aren't exactly successful TV series either.

Last but not least, it's a bit easier to become member for a short period of CBS All Access as opposed to competing online platforms like Netflix and Amazon Home.

So let's give "Star Trek" a chance instead of destroying it before it even has premiered.

If Star Trek was a crime procedural it would get 11 seasons on CBS.
Don't get me wrong, I'm just stating the obvious peril the new show will face on a big network.
The CW doesn't even cancel shows with low ratings, they have reasonable expectations.

I'll be the happiest person once season three is greenlighted as it guarantees a fourth season and even a fifth depending on the number of episodes per season.

I think that's fake happiness. I am foremost happy that "Star Trek" is back for at least 1 season. And I will be sincerely happy IF those 17 episodes are really magnificent. Until then, try to safe your happiness for the possible quality of the series, instead of arguments of quantity and marketing.

    Very very insightful article!
    http://moviepilot.com/posts/3948302

Apparently, "Star Trek 2017" will be an anthology series. Very much like the TV series "Fargo" and "American Horror Story". And there's the possibility that CBS will actually do some unexpected things with both the Prime Universe (1966-2005) and the Abrahmsverse (new rebooted timeline after 2009 movie). And, apparently season 1 will be set in the period before the events of the "Undiscovered Country" (TOS timeline, around 2265) and "The Next Generation" timeline (TNG timeline, around 2375). So we might even see some insight into the crew of Captain Rachel Garret's USS Enterprise-C, set in 2343 (watch the TNG episode "Yesterday's Enterprise").

It's no so much that it LOOKS better, than that the FX rises to the level of the storytelling!

Totally agree I barely notice the effects, I see great stories and the best characters in the brilliant clarity. Trek is always about the themes and how they relate to the human condition.

Great great news guys. Today it has been confirmed that production designer Mark Worthington (who also did the production design for TV Series like "American Horror Story", "Ugly Betty", and "Lost") has been added to the crew of the new Star Trek TV Series. Apparently, as one could read from Worthington's CV-site, the TV Series has been temporarily titled with the codename: "Star Trek: Green Harvest".

What's even more interesting are the available sketches and drawings from some of the ships we could see back in the new Trek-series:
    stns-klingon1.jpg
    stns-klingon2.jpg
    CBS%2BStar%2BTrek%2BGreen%2BHarvest%2BFederation%2Bship%2Bconcept%2Bart%2BMark%2BWorthington.jpg
    CBS%2BStar%2BTrek%2BGreen%2BHarvest%2BFederation%2Binterior%2Bconcept%2Bart%2BMark%2BWorthington.jpg

As you can see above, it's a completely new Klingon vessel, a so called 'Klingon Sarcophagus Ship'. This could perhaps mean that in this new Trek Series the Klingons actually have a real-life 'Barge Of The Dead', which in essence is the mythical ship which all dead Klingons need to entore before entering the Klingon Heaven, 'Stovokor'.

Then, by connecting the preliminary title "Star Trek: Green Harvest" to this new sarcophagus ship, season 1 could perhaps be centered around themes that are about harvesting organic material from Humans and...Klingons? To make sure they actually die earlier, so one could harvest organs, or....perhaps entire bodies?

In a way this news reminds me a bit of a Sci-Fi classic "Soylent Green", which actually dealt with this theme. Perhaps I'm analizing too much, but I'm quite excited by the above Klingon Ship:

Noticed yesterday, a lorry had on its back panel ( the bit the trailer attaches to )
Was decorated with the faces of Spock, Kirk, Bones and Scotty. All in a pencil
    Sketch effect, looked fantastic.
