James Bond dies ?

How would you guys feel if they ended one of the actors eras with a death ? Not saying they stop the franchise or anything, but send an actor out on a death would you guys be ok with that ?

  • I personally wouldn't like it very much. I can see some creative merit of course but part of Bond's appeal is that he, well, never dies.

It would be positively shocking to see, but I'd rather it not happen honestly.

I think it would be nice to see one sacrifice himself for queen and country and go out as a hero.

Absolutely, if Skyfall had ended with Craig dying in M's arms as he saved her before and killed Silva brutally, it would have made Skyfall an immediate masterpiece of gigantic proportions and not the soapy slop it is at the end.

Also in Brosnan's fifth movie they could have let him die at the end. Some OHMSS like movie with Bond getting shot in the wedding car with his wife Moneypenny.

Moore would have died of natural causes in his 8th movie probably :))

Connery should have been put to death at the end of DAF for that insult of a film :))

As the user above stated, part of Bond's appeal is that he never dies. Bond shouldn't be killed, at all... Unless we're talking about descendants who inherit his position of the 00-Number and being the spy in the Bond family.

it would definitely be unexpected and I think it could make for one of the best bond movies ever.At the end of the day it is just a what if and I don't think they would ever have the balls to do it , but I could see it working if done right.

One question, though... Why would it be one of the best Bond movies ever? Just because there's some tragedy and that the hero dies in the end? I don't see how it is that appealing.

Nooo, part of what Makes Bond os great is that he mever dies and it could ruin the image of the character.

So no, i hope this never happens in the Bond franchise

    Agree @ClarkDevlin

In Bond 25 after Bond is killed, his long lost son is presented by M as his successor, the son is played by Justin Bieber :))

I hope you're joking about that.
I'm not. It makes sense to see a successor taking the caseload of a predecessor. The King dies, long live the king.

But it is a bit cliche.
We'd have that Indiana Jones 4 situation with Indy's son, except Indy actually dies and his son really does put on that hat at the end. Not something I want.

EDIT: Oh, and codename theory. Yuck.

It would have changed Skyfall from a dreary snot to an immediate masterpiece.

The immediate and most obvious problem with this scenario is that James Bond is a person not a title. This would be akin to saying, "JFK has died, long live JFK." The next person to take up the presidency is the next president, not the next JFK.

I'm not saying let's immediately bring in his young son. Years later, his son (whether legitimate or illegitimate) does turn up to become a spy. Decades later. All you have to do is to think how to advance through the story, not have a Groundhog Day every time. It has worked in many other fictions that are not related to superheroes if you will. It can work on Bond. And no, I'm not saying let's have a goofy franchise made out of that. Keep the tone serious and dark, and have another 007 take the spotlight.

That's in case the James Bond that we know dies.

I'd name the next Bond (after Bond's death) The Search For Mr. Bond
or Bond Resurrection or Dawn Of The Bond.

I can't really see the functional purpose in that though... If you want a new Bond you can just replace the actor. And storywise it is too predictable. I can't see the merit unfortunately.

Well, none of us has seen the merit in Blofeld becoming Bond's foster brother, either. But, it happened anyway.

Personally, I'd rather have Bond as he is. But, if you're going to kill a character, that's either you don't have the will to continue the chronology and you're tired of it, or you're just crying for attention from the audience. Some may be sheer shocked, some may embrace it. If I were to kill a character, I'd have him (or her, depends on the character) leave a legacy behind. Something. Anything.

Have the identity get passed on to the next best agent. That would be one way to keep the reboot going.

I did misread you. My bad. The obvious problem then is that the James Bond franchise no longer stars, or even features in a minor role, James Bond. Now it stars Tony MacDonald or Jennifer Samsonite or whoever else inherits the 007 title. James Bond is what makes the films what they are. The character is irreplaceable.

The movie's theme will be "the dead are alive".

What makes the Bond adventures stand still is that they are James Bond Thrillers, not 007 Thrillers. It's James Bond we are introduced to with Casino Royale, and that the 007 codenumber is just a way to address him in his intelligence service, just like any other codename or codenumber (like 7777 in You Only Live Twice). If they want to make 007 films, there are many ways to tackle it. But, if one is making a James Bond film, then put James Bond in the center and revolve the movie mostly around him while he chases down villains and neutralizes threats.

No, but it would be cool if they left it ambiguous at the end of one film whether Bond is alive or not - a bit like when Bond gets poisoned at the end of FRWL the novel.
