    1. 007 theme
    2. Heads of Station
    3. Trad gunbarrel every time
    4. Bond getting a mission
    5. Spying, Bond is a spy after all
    6. The JB theme used effectively in the score - I find Thomas Newman's use of it borders on pastiche.
    7. Title of the next Bond film on the end credits
    8. A return to DC era grittiness from CR thru Skyfall
    9. Faithful adaptation of Fleming - YOLT anyone? a spin off of TSWLM as per the novel?
    10. Bond's class - his knowledge of food and drink etc.
    11. Bond as definably upper class.
    12. Bond smoking cigarettes.
    13. Limited roles for M, Moneypenny and Q

I'd love to see Bond doing a bit more " sneaking around'" stuff. Searching at night
In the black polo neck jumper and trousers, hiding in the shadows. I guess that
Would come under " more SPY stuff" :)

Very good list, but No 8 should be replaced by "A return to early, middle 60's Connery era grittiness"

Pretty good list especially number 6 which is getting close to being embarassing especially when it's in conjunction with the DB5 turd that just won't flush. When are we going to get the Bond theme at full blast when Bond does something Bondian rather than just an aural alert every time Mendes serves up another reference to old Bond films.
The limp plane sequence would have really benefitted from the a rousing rendition of the Bond film.

Also I would pick you up on number 11. Bond is not upper class. Andrew Bond worked for a living and Bond has to also. I can't remember which book it was off the top of my head but there's a quote somewhere where Bond imagines that he if he had enough wealth not to work he would just end up a playboy on the Riviera.

Bond is solidly middle class; probably upper middle class given how his family is portrayed in SF.

Yeah I agree with you on upper middle class - in my mind people who go to Eton are more than just 'middle class', maybe I'm just a snob though like Fleming himself :)

-I want to see a scene of Bond arriving by plane in a new setting (preferably exotic or fancy) with a classy outfit & superior score in the background. Last seen in CR when Craig lands in the bahamas. Notably done before with Connery in the early films, Moore in LALD & Brosnan in GE. Once again, this is trademark Bond imho. It would also be nice if the villains try to find a way to take him out then and there and he bests them (again classic stuff).
Could not have said it better myself. I'd like a classic scene of Bond checking into his hotel and checking the room for bugs.
Also, I agree- no personal BS, no angst, the REAL James Bond gets over things quickly and moves on to his next assignment without whining about events the previous film.
  • I've missed the gambling scenes since Casino Royale. Bond doesn't really gamble in SF.

    My top five things.
    1. Better memorable scores with a larger use of the Bond theme better utilized during action scenes.

    2. Bond sneaking around enemy locations in Black stealth clothes. (GF and TB come to mind.)

    3. A good final fight with the villain.

    4. A Lotus car.

    5. More time put to use of locations. Recent Bond movies have him skipping around the world way too soon.

The things I want in Bond to return:
1-Stoic macho seasoned gentleman secret agent who wears very masculine suits.
2-Quips and puns and witty one liners.
3-Provocatively sensational Bond Girls and not women with damaged pasts.
    4-Megalomaniac Villains and over-the-top plots.
5-Military bases, control rooms (we sort of got that back), Silos especially!
6-The proper melodic James Bond music in the soundtrack.
7-And finally, catchy Bondian title songs. Bondian. Like Goldfigner and Thunderball.

Back to the 007 theme ...they can spend big money on a massive explosion they barely filmed, a prototype Aston they forgot to drive, and an actor whom rather slit his wrists BUT they can't stand to pay royalties to give fans Barry's 007 theme?

Definitely. With Vesper, Camille, Severine and Madeleine, it has become a standard in Craig's films. This personal issues stuff really needs to end, both with Bond and with the women.

Exactly what I mean. Every woman Craig's Bond encountered had some disturbing past about her I am led out of interest when it comes to the Bond Girls of the current era. I would rather have a Bond Girl who is provocatively sensational and can seduce anyone she likes, especially in sexual manner. Have her being a man eater and Bond a lady killer, now that's the kind of pair I'd love to see saving the day and celebrating altogether. A lady who doesn't really need Bond but loves to team up with him which is a mutual feeling between the two. I miss the old days really. Imagine if Natasha Romanoff was a Bond Girl... Oh goodie!!

    3. Just stop pissing about with all these different designs and go back to the Brosnan era GB.

the more i watch SP, the more i like the gunbarrel... it's very simple, but it works well enough (just the design mind you).. when Bond turns and fires, i kind of like how they silhouette him out against the background - it's a nice touch..... but i don't like that it stayed still - had it moved, and then fallen into a corner like it's traditionally supposed to, it would've been 10x better.... but who knows, since Mendes probably wont be coming back for Bond 25 - perhaps whoever is directing next won't try and f### with it just so he can have his stupid little pretentious moment to start the film.

Something that I've brought up on the Original's thread that I think bears repeating.

I'd like a return to the cultural flavor and immersion that we used to get when Bond was sent to a foreign location. Since the '80s, exotic and new locations are simply backdrops; eye candy. In the Comnery years (and to a lesser degree, the Moore years) we were treated to the customs, people, food and rituals of a culture. DN, FRWL, TB, YOLT, DAF, LALD, OP and others, to varying degrees, put us into a new (if somewhat fictionalized) world. Seeing The Day of The Dead in SP was nice, but it we still did not live, eat or interact with the people.

Hear, hear! Locales are just used for throwing money on the screen nowadays. Last time we truly saw this was OP. Actually there was a lot of cultural immersion there come to think of it - you really felt India and Germany. You do not feel Rome or Austria or Tangier in SP.

Although what you say might be more difficult to capture now due to the general urbanisation of the world today. We see Shanghai in SF. Shanghai certainly looked far different in the 60s, 70s, even 80s. Or at least I would assume.

I agree 100%. I like those Bond films where you can really say afterwards. This filmhad one or two main location: India and Germany; or Greece and Cortina; or just one Japan.

Local alies are also something we have been missing for a long time. YOLT, Octopussy, Dr. No or Golden Eye all benefited from that. I also like it if Bond interacts with other people.

Lately, I believe QoS did it very well in Bolivia. The scenes of Bond and Mathis travelling with Fields to the hotel (with the cab driver chatting away in local language) and other scenes with the locals and the water shortages were well done. I also liked the earlier parts in Haiti. In between both was the modern contrast setting of Breganz, Austria.

Agreed. I don't want to stumble into the camp comedy bit that we've seen in Moonraker, partially Octopussy and some of the Die Another Day elements. A little more Sean Connery injection into the GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies mixture would result in the perfect mojo for the Bond film series.

I think maybe the poster is referring more to Bind's specific and refined tastes.

I like Beluga and Dom Perignon and would love to drive an Aston and buy my clothes in Savile Row. It's just I can't afford it - but even if I could it wouldn't make me upper class.
