As a comic book lover and Bond fan in tandem, I'd be more than willing to purchase something like this...months after its run in a trade paperback. Monthly titles do nothing for me because I want to follow a story naturally and see it develop without pause. Having to wait four weeks between each issue just doesn't engage me and literally and figuratively makes me lose the plot.

I'm extremely happy to see all you gents loving it, though. With many disappointments out there in the Bond world in its many mediums, I'm glad Fleming's work has found new life in the comic book form and has found a place in your hearts.

I can see your point. The website I write for (they know I'm a huge Bond fan) lets me review the series whenever the new issues come out.

    a) I don't normally review comic books
    b) when I take in a Bond adventure, be it in book or film form, I know I don't have to wait to find out what happens next. I just keep reading or watching.

It's been a very different experience so far. I like the story, I'm engaged, but it still feels a bit off to read 20 pages and then be told 'come back next month!' for a 007 adventure.

I can't say I entirely fault people that choose to wait for the inevitable volume that will contain complete story arcs.

Of course if everyone waits no one buys ...

But thanks for the kind words :)

    Thanks :)
  • I read #s 1-3 back-to-back recently & found the story flows very nicely. Those who want to wait for a complete GN will be satisfied....eventually. Those of us who have learned to appreciate our stories in smaller monthly doses will be sufficient to keep the title alive until the compilations surface. Does anybody out there remember reading the old daily strip? How did that format work for you? (Or was that so long ago that no one here was alive back then? I'm American, so although I'm old enough, I never got to see it in the daily format...)

Apparently, Issue #4 is delayed to February 10.

In the meantime, Issue #6, the last installment in VARGR's story arc revealed its cover and official plot synopsis, which comes out on April 6 this year.

The secret of VARGR is revealed, and it means that Bond has to descend into a nightmare scenario - alone. Just his gun and his skills versus a murderous conspiracy to turn Britain into a testing zone for death drugs.

Thanks for posting. Delayed? ~X( ...I had plans to pick up my copy tonight.

I had just thought yesterday how nice not to have delays like previous Bond comics.

On the plus side I'm planning on buying the hard copy collection this summer.

I don't know what was the case to do so, it's still listed as February 3 on Dynamite's official site, but ComiXology placed it on February 10. I also have been scouting online to check if Issue #4 has been released, seems I find no reviews based on it whatsoever.

On side notes, it appears the Complete Vol. 1 (the VARGR chronology) will use Dom Reardon as the cover artist. I just hope it isn't the one with Bond walking on white sheet and blood scattered all over the ground. I'd rather if they use Gabriel Hardman's first issue cover artwork, because it fits VARGR like glove.

The newest cover reminds me of the Blood Stone level where you storm Pomerov's ship.

It does, doesn't it? I had a blast playing that level. Who knows? It might even be the inspiration for Issue #6... Now we have to wait and see if there's a seaplane alongside the ship.

I do love Kurjak as a villain, though. He has no sympathies for anything. Having said that, don't you feel his purpose and premise is a bit similar to the Nazi-German Doctor from the U.N.C.L.E. movie?

Yes that's true but I didn't recall UNCLE when reading. ...Kurjak is like a Darwinist on acid.

I hope Bond has the opportunity to return the "safety first" line at Kurjak's demise.

When Kurjak referred to his lack of sympathy in the concentration camp and his will to infect many people with his poison just to see a result, the motivation kind of reminded me of Uncle Rudi (Sylvester Groth) from UNCLE. He used war as an opportunity to play with a live human body and torture them slowly with a methodical routine. It's somehow a reminiscent of it, without being intentional... or maybe it was...

I don't believe it was intentional

Issue 4 might be my favourite. I'm a sucker for villains when they serve up their maniacal monologues.

Yes mine too. Of course this story imo has seemed to be taking a bit too long to hit it's stride. Don't get me wrong I'm enjoying it immensely. Part #4 really got me sold.

My opinion may possibly change when I read the issues in succession.

I've been reading some of the old articles back when VARGR was announced. Editor Joseph Rybandt revealed that they were working on an adaptation of Casino Royale as a period piece. I figure the next one will be CR. Within the next 15 days, I assume Dynamite will reveal the new Bond comic. :D

I just hope it won't be Jason Masters doing the art.

Sorry... I wrote the name of the month wrongfully. It's supposed to be March, not February. My apologies.

Apparently, it's been rescheduled to March 16 on ComiXology.

Dynamite should really update their sites more often. The dates are misleading.
