    @dalton, I like Saw V a lot! :p

    Finally! Someone else. :D

I really liked it as well. I liked the whole dynamic of Agent Strahm going against Detective Hoffman in that kind of 1-on-1, cat-mouse game between the two whereas the usual Saw gimmicks seemed to take somewhat of a backseat to that. It could have been better, but I really liked what they were going with there and I thought that Scott Patterson and Costas Mandylor did a really good job in it.

Dude, I saw - no pun intended - the movie in theatres and was really taken aback by the pencil going into Strahm's throat. Whoa. Not something I'd like to do to myself.

    Incidentally,
losing Strahm at the end of the film really upset me. I liked him as a foe for Hoffman.

    'The Purge 3' trailer:

I'm not too big a fan of The Purge. I watched the first. It barely worked for me.

I'm not even going to bother watching the trailer for the third 'Purge' installment, nor did I know they were filming one. The second one was laughably bad, learned my lesson and won't waste any more time on this series. Regarding the new 'Saw' movie, I am interested to see what they manage to do with it and bring to the table now that they've had an absence in the series for a few years. Perhaps they'll come up with some really great, fresh ideas.

Looks like NECA have amalgamated both their already released undamaged and battle-damaged Jasons for this one figure. I don't know if i'll be buying this one, as I already own NECA's undamaged undamaged Jason (Pt 3). Still, it's a nice idea for those who didn't buy the individual pt 3 Jasons.

Hellraiser fans, are you having a good day? Well, that might just be about to change:

    http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3380248/hellraiser-is-dimension-rushing-a-sequel-into-production/

I haven't seen Revelations, but everything, and I do mean everything, that I have heard about it, has been extremely negative. I grumble and complain about the state of the Friday The 13th re-reboot, but at least the Friday The 13th films are still theatrical. The series hasn't sunk to DTV or god forbid... Ashcan levels like Hellraiser has.

They don't seem to be able to breath new life into any of the classics...

Only Phantasm V will (hopefully) reach me this year.

Even though there isn't a date for it on the IMDB, I would put money on Phantasm: Ravager getting a 2016 release.

I truly hope so, what with Angus Scrimm's sad demise and such. Also, wasn't there going to be a Phantasm re-release coinciding with PhV?

As far as I am aware, Phantasm has undergone a 4K restoration, which is going to be theatrically released either Q1 or Q2 2016. And after that, it'll be followed with a DVD/BR release.

I can't wait. There's something addictive about that film.

    It's been officially... er... officialised....

    Hellraiser (1987)
    Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988)
Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth (1992)
    Hellraiser: Bloodline (1996)
    Hellraiser: Inferno (2000)
    Hellraiser: Hellseeker (2002)
    Hellraiser: Deader (2005)
    Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005)
    Hellraiser: Revelations (2011)
    Hellraiser: Judgement (2016*)

    * Well, Dimension do need to rush this one out as well, so a 2016 release is a dead cert. It'll probably be released tomorrow. ;)

I'm curious to see how the remainder of this series is going to play out. So much potential, so little of it actually realised.

You have to wonder that in 5 years, why couldn't they make a Hellraiser of at least decent quality rather than burying the series with it's second Ashcan entry. And as I type, the irony of this post, and waiting for the Friday The 13th re-reboot just dawned on me.

    True enough.

I guess we continue to hope that they bring back the glory of our beloved slashers but it doesn't seem "in vogue" to do so in this cynical second decade of the 21st Century with all of its ghosts and demons hitting horror cinema hard and not in a positive way IMO.

That leads to one of two questions that I am too afraid to ask. 1) What has become of the major horror series, they've all lost their momentum? And 2) after the generation of actors like Kane Hodder and Robert Englund, where are the next generation of horror regulars? Maybe the second question can be answered with, they just aren't household names yet.

'Child's Play 7' to star Jennifer Tilly once again, shooting in Cape Town, South Africa?

An official announcement hasn't been made yet. But after the tonal reboot of Curse Of Chucky, I would be up for another one.

I was pretty surprised by the latest one; direct-to-DVD, hadn't seen a truly solid 'Chucky' release in years, so I figured it'd be all bad. Of course, I could've done without the bad CG they used for him and I wish they focused more on animatronics, but overall, it wasn't too bad. I'll definitely see the newest one.

While I didn't have a problem with the CGI used in Curse Of Chucky, the animatronics used in Childs Play looked better (and still stand up quite well today).

It's reassuring again to read that the found-footage angle has been kicked to the curb. As for the time period, I would like to see them plug the gap between Jason Takes Manhattan and Jason Goes To Hell. Now that Paramount are in control of the series once more, I think this could be a possibility.

So no found footage, it looks like they (assuming, at this point) will take it back to the 80's, AND work will start sooner rather than later (possibly meeting that January 2017 release date?). Oh, I am a very happy man. Hopefully Mears returns, as well.

    Ring vs Grudge?
That's like a very weird concept... :-? I mean, how are those two dead girls going to duke it out? Try to scare each other?
I'm not even sure whose team I'm on. Kayako or Sadako. This is strange...

That seems like a really tight release schedule. Filming hasn't even started yet, and they are still aiming for Jan 2017.

The latest reboot ended shooting exactly eight months before the release date; however, I'm honestly not sure why they would need eight months for post-production work, so it is feasible for them to get it out by then, but as @MajorDSmythe said, it's still a very tight deadline to meet.

If there isn't a director attached, then might I suggest the Soska sisters? Not only have they directed the best horror film of this decade, American Mary, but they have expressed interest in directing an F13 film. As a second choice, I would suggest Adam Green. The Hatchett films are practically tributes to the F13 films.

If it shoots around July/August, then it won't hit theaters in January, maybe a few months later.
