Keaton was an exceptional Batman, and an exceptional Wayne. Unhinged.

I've been a big fan of Batman since I was a kid. Read a huge chunk of the graphic novels in particular, especially "Year One" and "The Killing Joke", which are two of my favourite bits of comic book writing.

It's why I love Batman Begins the best, it was the closest to a pure Batman film we have seen. And The Dark Knight was just superb but for very different reasons.

I actually don't think I could choose. However, if I absolutely had to....I'd go with Bond. The Dark Knight Rises was such a massive disappointment I think the Craig films have an edge over Nolan's Bat trilogy because of it.

Keaton ruled. Plus: chicks loved the car.

Best Batmobile ever. Just got a Hot Wheels diecast of it.

It's kind of hard to compare the two series directly. I can only compare the individual movies.

Casino Royale definitely beats Batman Begins, hands down. From my first viewings - the plot was better, the villain was better, the protagonist was characterized better, the allies were better, the pacing and atmosphere were better, etc and it's been the same on rewatch. It's not quite a landslide, but Casino Royale is a considerably superior film IMO.

It's the opposite case in Quantum of Solace vs The Dark Knight. TDK beats QoS in all the areas I mentioned before. It's interesting, because in my opinion, TDK is about as good as CR, while QoS is about as good as Batman Begins.

Skyfall takes The Dark Knight Rises, IMO. I've never been crazy about SF but it has better action and a better villain. There's more depth to it, but even from a simple viewpoint, I'd say SF takes TDKR. It's just better constructed and does its predecessor films greater justice.

Bond. It has CR in the mix. Thus, superior.

PS. Pierce Brosnan is the Adam West of Bond! Ha ha!

You say that like it's a bad thing. ;)
Adam West was the right Batman for the era.

So, to be consistent, should we expect:

Bond vs Hunt: Dawn of Spies (???)

Well, ask yourself the question: Where was Ethan Hunt born :-P?

The Dark Knight Trilogy is certainly tighter overall than the Craig Quadrilogy, but I don't think it had to suffer through the writer's strike/lawsuits involving important parts of franchise legacy.
Even with that, the Craig Quadrilogy had better films (Casino Royale, Skyfall)
But as a single overarching story, The Dark Knight Trilogy takes it I think.

EDIT: Have to agree with @bondjames; Michael Keaton is brilliant, and was brilliant as Bruce Wayne/Batman, in the brilliant Batman '89.

I really find it difficult. Overall, I think the character James Bond has been better developed over the course of these four films as compared to Bruce Wayne/Batman.

I could see that. Also, I think people have a problem with the way Batman was ultimately handled at the end of TDKR
Leaving Gotham City? Surely we're past the statute of limitations on TDKR spoilers on this Bond site? You never know...
whereas I think Craig's Bond adhered a little bit more to classic Bond (although I realize people have issues with that as well). Personally I think he did. I read Fleming now and don't have a problem imagining Daniel as literary Bond these days.

    Quadrilogy is not a word...ugh.

Nolan's Batman movies are fantastic (best Batman movies by far), but I still give the edge to Bond (duh, of course...this is a Bond site. Ask this on a Batman forum and the answer will be Batman), mainly because I love Bond's arc in Craig's four film run and there's tons of nods to Fleming Bond, which I obviously love. I can really picture Craig as the literary Bond, the only other one I can say that for is Dalton, but Craig gets extra points because he's such a great cinematic representation as well.

Descriptive vs. prescriptive language. If it gets the meaning across, it gets the job done.

Anthology or tetralogy works just as fine. Unless you want to discuss the arbitrariness of the sign vis a vis the signified and other such post-modern ennui.

    Because I do not.

There are certainly some complicated words in there that I don't understand. Which I gather was the point of using them. Anyway, this isn't really the place.

What do people here think about Heath Ledger's post-humous-Oscar-winning Joker performance? Would anyone put it down for best acting in all 7 discussed films? You might say... in the whole Septilogy (Sorry @Aziz_Fekkesh ;) )?

Not a fan of his Joker, IMO it was just an evil version of Brandon Lee's Crow in colour.

I've never seen Crow, so I can't comment, but can the comparison be made even with Joker's manic energy, like in the interrogation scene, and the hospital and such?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetralogy :
A tetralogy (from Greek τετρα- tetra-, "four" and -λογία -logia, "discourse") is a compound work that is made up of four distinct works. The name comes from the Attic theater, in which a tetralogy was a group of three tragedies followed by a satyr play, all by one author, to be played in one sitting at the Dionysia as part of a competition.[1]
"quartet" is sometimes used, particularly for series of four books.

    And now it comes:
The term "quadrilogy", basing the prefix on Latin prefix quadri- instead of the Greek prefix, and first recorded in 1865,[5] has also been used for marketing series of movies, such as the Alien series.

    And:

    And:
    http://www.omaha.com/go/six-suggested-spin-offs-for-the-hunger-games-series/article_2575f67c-ba02-5ea1-8578-a4680ce8e78e.html
James Bond will return. So will “Star Wars” and “Jurassic World” and “The Fast and the Furious.” But for the “Hunger Games” series, this is the end. The quadrilogy, based on the books by Suzanne Collins, concludes with “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2,” opening in theaters tonight. The movie promises a bleak close to the darkest series running; this is, after all, a story that began with children murdering children, and it only got grimmer from there.

So 'Quadrilogy' it is :-)! How did Marc-Ange Draco put it? Ah yes..: "Basta!" :-)

Like @Problem_Eliminator said, same vibe, and DEFINITELY you should see it!!! It defines brutal film-making.

I'd say they both have their issues.

I like BB OK so I've been told it's a Shadow rip off, not seen it not likely to so I'll live in ignorance and continue to enjoy BB.

I know it seems fashionable to call all those that love TDK as deluded but I couldn't give a shit. Like Skyfall I still love it as much as I did on day one, call me pretentious so be it.
TDK is still the best blockbuster I've seen from then till now and neither of the DC films are as good as it for me, I find the Burton's far too dated and camp, more like the atrocious TV series that everyone seems to give a free pass these days.

TDKR is when it goes wrong though, over long ponderous and just not very well thought out. Has it's moments but a real let down after TDK infact there is a pattern here with Bond as you'll see below.

CR better than BB definitely and a cracking start, not perfect and has issues but they are outweighed by the good.

QOS weaker than BB & TDK but better than TDKR, not the follow up I would of liked but it's underdog status seems to have done it some good, it's still not the sequel CR deserved but in some respects it's less flawed than Bond 24

SF, my favourite of this era, I know some of you hate it clearly but I continue to fight in it's corner.

SP clearly the one that is most like TDKR, not very well thought out and it seems the promise that SF showed where it could have gone, my revisions in the how would you have done it differently thread explain my disappointment with this film quite clearly. I'd rate it higher than QOS just but that film had a much better climax, both of the set pieces that close SP are pretty poor.

So I guess it's a bit of a draw for me, TDK is my outright favourite but as a whole they have similar issues so can't separate one from the other.
