I never rate GE or TLD that high. Not a fan of Glen at all.

    But I respect your opinion.

    Nice list thanks for posting.

Interesting. I know that you praised another members list for placing CR low, yet it's in your top five, @Mendes4Lyfe?

Yes, well I criticise it as well if you have seen me. I think the film is overrated, especially the third act. That being said as an overall experience, I don't think there are many that reach the same heights (the poker scenes).

Where I place the film depends on how well I can stomach the final third of the film. It just so happens that recently I haven't found the love scenes as difficult to watch, so that greatly affects its ranking. I never enjoy that sinking house bit, but it didn't grate with me on my last viewing, so the positves of the film pushed it up the rankings. Who knows, I might have finally converted to CR, but its too early to tell. Cheers!

Well, seeing as I have the time in coming days, is it okay for me to create a bunch of threads dedicated to ranking the Bond films over time with explanations, with each thread putting a bunch of them into a tier?

    http://www.mi6community.com/index.php?p=/discussion/8997/so-you-want-to-start-a-new-elimination-game#latest

We don't want lots of A vs B threads everywhere. There have been Bond film elimination games many times, so it's best to wait until everyone has seen Spectre then see if there is an appetite for a new one.

Well, yeah, I'd like to wait for Spectre, of course.

I'm not playing A vs B, though. I'm doing blog-style analyses of the films to list them in order from 24 to 1, under specific brackets or tiers.

OK I see. When Spectre has been 'consumed' run the whole idea through the thread I linked (I know it isn't an elimination game but we can discuss the idea there) and it may be a good idea while we wait for the dvd to come out!!

Sounds good. I've always thought an elimination bracket for the theme songs of the films (potentially with the exclusion of Dr No) would be worth attempting. In fact, somebody could make it (or bump it) now, since everybody (I assume) has heard Writing's On The Wall.

Updated following the release of SP.

Although unofficial I would place NSNA at number 16 in my list, meaning all films below would drop a place.

Although I stopped my last Bondathon after about 8 films (got caught up with work and life and never got back to it) I figured I'd post up my from-the-gut pre-Spectre rankings. Probably marathon through the films again after Spectre's US release or after it comes out on Blu-ray. We'll see how close the two lists are.

    1. THUNDERBALL
    2. GOLDFINGER
    3. DR. NO
    4. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
    5. GOLDENEYE
    6. CASINO ROYALE

    7. THE SPY WHO LOVED ME
    8. OCTOPUSSY
    9. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
    10. MOONRAKER
    11. LIVE AND LET DIE
    12. SKYFALL

    13. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
    14. A VIEW TO A KILL
    15. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
    16. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
    17. TOMORROW NEVER DIES
    18. LICENCE TO KILL

    19. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN
    20. DIE ANOTHER DAY

    21. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE
    22. QUANTUM OF SOLACE
    23. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH
    24. NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN
  • Man oh man. Im currently Bondathon-ing prior to seeing SP for the first time on Thursday and my list is changing ALOT. Though this does happen every single time.

Agreed on CR67 I don't even acknowledge it as a Bond film. However, NSNA has Connery, Fleming's story,

CR67 is a parody. Spoofs like that don't count. At least NSNA has true Bond roots.
  • I count NSNA because it has Connery and it's based on a Fleming story and it's trying to be a real Bond film. CR67 obviously wasn't/

NSNA is a Bond movie, just not produced by the same people.
And in retrospect, the missing gun-barrel and other iconic Bond things don't even bother me anymore because obviously it was alright to abandon them in this era.

I know people love to hate on Glen, but IMHO OP, AVTAK and TLD are all classic Bond films. I would take any of them over TB or YOLT, for instance. [-(

    I don't understand this hate.
    FYEO
    OP
    TLD
clearly belong to the best Bond movies.
even LTK belongs in the upper half of any ranking if not the Top 10.

Only AVTAK should have been better, but that's more a problem of the silly script I guess.
