For me, the most obvious thing for Bond 25 to do is to take the unused material that was in Fleming's You Only Live Twice and loosely adapt. The way Fleming described Shatterhand's Castle with the Garden of Death is something that needs to be put on the big screen. It would be one of the most atmospheric and dreamlike sequences of the series.

It's completely practical to have Bond return to space in realistic fashion. There are many ways this could come to fruition. The question is whether it's a good idea or not, not whether it can happen.

Interesting. What sort of ideas did you have in mind?

Space travel has and will continue to become the reserve of Billionaires. In the heightened reality of the Bond-verse I don't personally find it a stretch to conflate the idea of 'uber-villain' and 'conflict in space'. Not army vs. army, but something smaller scale. I don't think it suits the trajectory that we are currently on, but it could be done in a plausible way in the near future.

In real life, the Biosphere or Mars Experiments (isolating people on the ground to simulate life in space), turns out to be managed by people with weird reputation. Members of Biosphere / Biosphere 2 have even been said to be member of a cult. So in order to have "gritty Bond" and "Bond in space" almost in the same movie, you can imagine a Biosphere experiment going evil thanks to some Drax like villain at the head of it. You can then picture Bond going through isolated and tiny spaces full of hi-tech, and still be, hm, "realistic". No lack of gravity though.

Only read when you have seen Spectre!!! SPOILER
If Craig does one more -OHMSS Ending then staying true to beginning of YOLT the novel, where Bond is a wreck, M sends him to Japan on a fake mission to try keep his head focused and together, which unknowingly makes him stumble the mystical feared Dr and his garden of death (Blofeld). And agree should be Ian Felmings James Bond - Shatterhand to complete the Craig Era story, change the castle location away from Japan to avoid it feeling like a remake of YOLT, perhaps Galapagos islands or back to Thailand use the islands from TMWTGG. Felix should be brought back and if possible Belucci for more of a key role having been extracted to the US by the CIA as Bond arranged in SPECTRE

Would like the idea of Bond on the hunt while himself being hunted.

I'm all for this. As soon as it was obvious what Spectre's ending was, these were my first thoughts, let's have the cinematic showdown with Blofeld that we've always wanted.

Although I wouldn't keep the Shatterhand/Blofeld identity thing, given that we've had Oberhauser/Blofeld in SPECTRE.

They should bin any scenes with Tanner, MP for the next one. Needs to be more in line with CR or PTS SPECTRE. Needs to be Bond solo and out of control blood thirsty and reckless.

SP changed my mind on the MI6 team dynamic. I was previously very sceptical, but I thought Mendes struck a great balance. Bond was clearly the driving force of the film with the others there as support. Q has suddenly become a different beast under Whishaw and I genuinely can't wait to see him reprise the role. Harris' chemistry with Bond was perfect and the scenarios in which they shared screen time were excellent. Tanner was undercooked again, but there are ways they can make better of use of him. As for Fiennes. He's just the ideal 'M'.

I've always thought the Dr Shatterhand's Garden of Death was one of the remaining Fleming nuggets that would make a good, if somewhat bizarre story line, so I'll add my voice to yours, guys.

However, I see no reason to eschew Japan, because the main reason why Fleming chose this location was down to the Samurai bushido honour code of committing seppuku (ritual suicide) when honour had not been fulfilled. As such, it's fitting that the Japanese setting should remain.

My Idea and Personally since the film has been released I will say this gives away MAGOR SPOILERS FOR SPECTRE
Personally while this breaks the pattern in terms of titles for Craig films I would title the next film The Hildebrand Rarity and mix Elements of that short story you only live twice Taken and the fugitive

    The Hildebrand Rarity
PTS: Blofeld Escapes Custody and Bond Saves Madeline from a Shark Attack
    Title Sequence
Story: Bond is retired and Serving as a Security Specialist for a new UN Base thanks to his new friend Fidel Barbery (who serves as the Mathis/tanaka of the film) He Find out Blofeld has escaped but figured he has hidden his tracks so well that Blofeld won't find him. Of Course Spectre Agents do M Flies out and says let the new 007 Gala Brand (played by Charity Wakefield she is also the bond girl and gives a middle finger to the code name theory once and for all) Handle this. Bond of course being Bond says no and goes out to try and stop Blofeld. Blofeld Says no harm will come to Madeline as long as Bond does exactly what he says and steals a virus from the UN base called The Hildebrand Rarity.

ok I have hit a writers block But basically at the end Bond is 007 again Swann is dead and Gala becomes 006 setting bond 26 up to be basically the final;e between Bond and Blofeld.

Modernise it with Switzerland and it's laws on euthanasia. Japan would be a no no treading on YOLT toes. We don't need remakes but it's ok to borrow Fleming nuggets not yet on film

Okay, but similar locations have been used before in the Bond canon. Let's not forget that the use of Switzerland would, by the same criteria, tread on OHMSS' toes. Another thing is that Swiss culture is nowhere near as dramatically exotic as Japanese culture, especially in its apparent tolerance to ritual suicide (as opposed to medically assisted means). Apologies to any Swiss reading this, but the incidence of suicide in Switzerland by ritual means is practically zero.

I think the concept in YOLT of the garden of death and it's purpose would be too weak for a plot to a movie and hence why Dhal was asked to change it to a volcano layer. The idea of a madman just encouraging death 1 man at a time is a bit naff in itself. They could take the idea of the garden but for something more sinister such as enriching uranium in the bowels of the Rock in which the garden and castle sit upon. The plot would have to be something with a serious global consequence. Bond needs to be saving more than just a few people from suicide.

I always liked the idea of a modern Spectre taking control of the Large Hadron Collide to adapt it in to a weapon, hold the world to ransom but then is that too comic book Bond?

Yes, good idea. The trouble is it's been used before in Angels and Demons where antimatter created in the collider was used as a weapon to destroy the Vatican.

I wouldn't say the idea's comic book, but it is very Dan Brown.

Darius stealing ideas from others has sadly become too easy of Bonds of late.

I think this is a marvellous idea really. Sounds also a bit like an alternative experiment to the Angels of Death sequence...

Sadly, it has, although maybe "borrowing" this idea might be a good move if the sheer magnitude of an antimatter explosion weren't underplayed like it was in Angels and Demons.

The Garden of Death could be presented as a world wide infamous Mecca for ritual suicide. Maybe a location pretty much untouchable and protected by a government.

The antithesis of the Garden of Eden.

Hybrid lethal plants when taken as prescribed have been claimed to cure cancer but toxic when easily overdosed.

People are dying though across Europe and now the UK with traces of these plants in their bloodstream.

....Ok I have no clue lol ...but a modern take on the Garden of Death could be interesting.

Personally, now, if some of our chaps want it to be Military-based Bond, then I heavily suggest Bond going after a rogue Chinese military officer, high ranking one at that, who does want the west to be obliterated, and along with participation from their Japanese, Russian and North Korean friends, all rogue people just like Orlov from Octopussy acting on his own authority, they plan to neutralize the western civilization. And yes, it involves a nuclear missile with over-complicated features in it, but still believable. I'd love to have Bond going through some action of that kind, again.

Plenty of potential for a real military story-line & would be something different for this era of 007, seen as there hasn't been a military angle to Bond films since TND, really.

EoN is always trying to explore Bond's roots, so something along the lines of his Royal Navy past could be used...

GoldenEye did have a military angle, and even the ill-fated Die Another Day has, as well.

Because I have turned it around (so you cannot see the spine) and banished it to the far bottom corner of my DVD rack.

That sounds more like a personal statement of your feelings towards the product rather than a logical strategy at the approach of the main discussion, which wasn't my question in the first place.

Military angle would be nice. I think I'm going to let Vargr wander throughout my mind after SP ....with Ellis I'm expecting a strong and unique story. Reinvision with a cinematic Craig Bond and Daniel Day Lewis cast villain along with the rest of the regulars and maybe that will tide me over for awhile.
