The 007 theme always sounded different in each film it appeared in, not to mention one one of the most memorable Bond themes to date. short motifs is one thing but Barry or Arnold never lifted a minute's worth of their previous work and used it again and the Bond theme doesn't count as recycling either because It's a Bond movie, it should be featured prominantly.

The reused music is a different variation, it's not the exact same one heard in SF.

Not that much different I'm afraid.

Exactly right, and as one listens to it more times, it becomes less apparent, at least from my point of view.

Hi gueys may i join in..? I enjoyed a lot both musics we heard today, and although i agree that there is some variations from the Skyfall grand bazar music, still its to similar. And for me it was a bit disapoiting. Nevertheless i'm sure i'll love the soundtrack (still, for me David Arnold should be hired back, and his Casino Royale OST is just superb), cheers

'Backfire' will probably end up being one of my favorite cues from Spectre's OST. The ending is spectacular.

I hope there are more tracks with choir elements. That bit in Backfire was awesome and haunting. I got a Capsule in Space vibe from it.

@jake24 I absolutely agree with you. I think every track will be true masterpiece for me. I really liked the ending, the Grand Bazaar elements and the choir bit.
I also love the Donna Lucia track, truly amazing and Newman has really proven himself with these two tracks alone. Can't wait for next Friday to hear the rest of the tracks

Agreed. And my gut tells me we'll hear them sooner.

The "Grand Bazaar" bit that folks are complaining about, it would seem, may well be Newman's "action cue" for Bond, since it comes back again in Skyfall for the Whitehall shootout if memory serves.
  • When I first heard the track this morning I thought I heard hints of "she's mine" from SF.
But as everyone has pointed out it's Grand Bazaar. I have listened to the track a few times this evening and its a good action piece. I think the inclusion of Grand Bazaar is Newman incorporating an action cue from his previous Bond score. There was the Bond theme (Monty Norman) the 007 theme (John Barry) and this is Newman adding his own to the mix. Can't wait to hear more.

  • 'Backfire', to me, seems very inspired by Michael Giacchino's scores. Especially his work on The Incredibles and Alias.

For instance, it reminds me very much of this track:

Donna Lucia is just incredible stuff. Very romantic and lush. It takes me somewhere outside of the spy realm. I wish it was longer.

Agreed. I enjoyed it greatly. I think I even heard some inspiration from "Writing's on the wall" in it.

I love both tracks, especialy Donna Lucia. It almost feels like a more minimalist reinterpretation of Barry's Bond Lured To Pyramid from MR.

I agree @HMBFF. That's one of my favourite MR tracks, and Donna Lucia & Bond Lured to Pyramid both have that epic, grand and enchanting, non-spy feel to them. Both excellent pieces with great string usage.

The Thames boat chase borrows heavily from the motorcycle chase in TND.

I'm not bothered by Newman's use ...Will just bring back memories of SF for the audience.

Where? I've listened to both many times and don't hear any reused elements.

Edit, I've just listened to Both and neither of them sound alike. Maybe they follow the same structure but aside from the use of the Bond theme they sound nothing alike.

I did read here, that "Backfire" used bits from "Grand Bazaar" from SF,. but that Newman actually cipied a large chunk from this track, amazed me, and, actually disappointed me a little. Hopefully he did not do this with the other stuff from SF. Well, we will have to wait and until next Friday.

I listened to it again, and I really don't mind it. Having said that, the 'chase' seems a little overscored to a degree. I would have preferred if they scored the 'prelude' and then let the engine/skid sounds do the talking for the actual 'chase' - similar to what was done in arguably the greatest chase sequence ever (The prelude score here is magnificent and sticks with me):
I know this comes as no surprise, but Daniel Craig reminds me SO MUCH of McQueen

    Where? On the soundtrack?? Lol

Jk.. I like the song and glad he did. I like both Arnold and Newman even though Newman is generic as h%'ll. And Arnold is fanboyish and too electronic.

Eon seems to be quite content with Arnold´s Bond scores ;-).

New soundtrack preview (idk yet if new track or not) and Newman interview from BBC Radio 3 (starts at 48 minutes) http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06gt253

    EDIT: it's just Backfire again.

The track Donna Lucia is named after Monica Bellucci's character. If she's getting a theme that good, I wonder what Newman is has in store for us for Madeleine Swann. Probably that is the track that will borrow from Smith's song.

    For me:

Backfire: A generic and relatively dull listen until perhaps the final 30 seconds, and even that is right out of "Grand Bazaar." (Though I do like the synthesized sounding "BAH-BAH" at the three minute mark even if it is fleeting.) Sounds like a whole lot of other action cues with its relentless notes and constant percussion (a trend I am very tired of). I'm sure it'll work just fine in the film, though.

Donna Lucia: Similar to "Severine," which is decent. Gets the job done, I suppose and will also likely work in the film. Nothing to get too excited about.

If Spectre's score is anything like Skyfall's the soundtrack will be a bore on its own, but will work fine within the film.

And if it is like Skyfall's, I think we need a new composer for the next film.
