According to Variety, Christopher Nolan's next film will be for WB and be released in 2017. So even if Bond was still on a 3 year cycle, it would seem ot rule him out for Bond 25

I finally saw The Handmaiden, and boy, what a storyteller Park Chan-wook is! He'd be a really interesting directorial choice for a future Bond.

Universal in, time for a reminder that there should consider Oliver Wood.

cinematographer of Safe House. Oliver Wood.

Safe House. To heavy sometimes in action scene's and who should be happy Alexander Witt also don't work on QOS. Because one of the two editors of QOS be editor of Safe House work with Alexander Witt (CR/Skyfall) as second united directer. Iam talking about scene's who look to much the violence style of the QOS boat chase and mabey some of the car chase.

This must be said, what Univeral learn from CR is that the movie get R-rating and my opnion is based on the view at home. But the music is good (Composer of the first Iron Man) and outside of the action scene's (like CR) the cinematography looks good with style's who look like CR but also on Bourne and Mi4.. South Africa Football stadion scene's looks amazing with a bit of Austria scene's from QOS and Airport scene from CR, but then with better music then CR. Stuard Baid and Alexander Witt work of course together on CR and Skyfall. With Deankis gone, mabey Oliver Wood shoud be consider.

Vic Armstrong possible return as second united directer.

I suport more style of Goldeneye, QOS and some parts of Spectre. From other side i also understand some people are fan of Casino Royale. Replacing Alalexander Witt as look like wil happen and asking Vic back iam happy with.

Famous names, I know, but people I very much consider suited for the job. Not trying to flirt with hypes here - most of these names were on my list prior to their big BO successes. E.g. I had my eye on Nolan since Insomnia. I had my eye on Boyle before the release of Slumdog. Fincher came on my list with The Game in theatres and as for Mann, well, let's just say HEAT took away whatever doubts I may have had left.

    Dimi called it in 2011.

How about a female director? Susanne Bier - director of acclaimed BBC drama The Night Manager.

2018 - First woman to play the Doctor (Doctor Who).

2018 - First woman to direct a James Bond film.
The Radio Times reported in June that Bier has been shortlisted to replace Sam Mendes at the helm of the mega spy franchise. The magazine said she is among a "handful" of names admired by "Bond" producer Barbara Broccoli.

Business Insider asked Bier if there is any truth in the report.

"I’d be very honoured and it would be a lot of fun, but it’s all rumours. It’s all the media stirring something up. I don’t know why rumours grow or what initiates them," she said.

That will be a left-field choice. She's Danish. According to IMDB, her current film Bird Box is in post production which means she could be free to film next year? I've no idea if she has the directorial skill to take on Bond but if she's admired by B Broccoli that must help her chances. If she's not available... I'm sure John Glen is! "I'm available, Babs!" ;)

I enjoyed The Night Manager very much. Haven't watched anything else by Susanne Bier, but TNM was certainly well done.

Some considerations for a British director (given the unusual situation Bond 25 is in!):

Mike Newell - he's older but he has done one of the finer Harry Potter films - within the confines of a formula. He's also responsible for Donnie Brasco which contains multiple excellent examples of tension, suspense, dramatic performances with a well cast ensemble group and a late career high for Al Pacino.

David Yates - admittedly he's in post production on Fantastic Beasts sequel - but has delivered big budget films for an established franchise - all of which have been hugely successful at the box office.

Jonathan Glazer - my left field choice - he had an amazing debut with Sexy Beast and his last film was a curious sci-fi with Scarlett Johansen - Under The Skin. Although there are downsides to his potential employment - He is more of an auteur and not used to anything on this budget scale.

Newell and Yates are the British equivalent of a Ron Howard to me - they can deliver big budget films on time and to a high level.

My top 5 wishlist right now, not counting the incredibly improbable candidates such as Tarantino and Danny Boyle:

    1. Christopher Nolan
    2. Tom Ford
    3. Yorgos Lanthimos
    4. Steven Soderbergh
    5. Ralph Fiennes

I had no idea that Fiennes was a director. The Killing of a Sacred Deer (Lanthimos) and Nocturnal Animals (Ford) were two of the more interesting films I saw last year. I didn't necessarily think Bond when I saw either, but then again, I wouldn't have thought Bond with Mendes or Boyle either.

I've always felt that Tarantino could make a very interesting one-off Bond too.

I actually would have loved to see Tarrantino direct Brosnan as Bond. Brosnan seems a much better fit for Tarrantino. What might have been...

A female director might bring a fresh new dimension to some of the old themes and plot lines.

It wouldn't surprise me if a Tarantino/Brosnan Bond one-off would put EON in the shadow! I mean, Tarantino writes some fantastic dialogue, and directs just as good.

Tarantino is brilliant, but he is very political .

I don't think so. I don't think he's that interested in politics at all, apart from perhaps as the vehicle for his revenge obsession - Kill Bill = gender revenge; Basterds = Jewish revenge; Django = race revenge. It takes something political and then makes it very apolitical in the way he handles it as a generic revenge fantasy.

I think the political aspects are very watered down to really just be about various aspects of revenge, as @Getafix mentions above. Don't know if The Hateful Eight is political though, as I haven't watched it yet.

Mèh. A Michael Mann Bond might be interesting, as might a Fincher one be. But I would only realistically dare suggest Nolan for a GOOD Bond film at this point. :)

thinking about it, Tarantino would have been perfect to direct a faithful YOLT adaptation - isn't it about revenge?

Even if he doesn’t direct another film,
I’d like to have Martin Campbell brought in to shoot the screentest of potential Bonds.
At that point in his career, he might find that appealing and profitable.

not if he wants to cast Cavill like he did for CR.

imagine how bad CR would have been with cavill

Who knows what he would have gotten out of him, particularly as a truly younger Bond.
I love CR as is but I have faith that if Campbell saw something in Cavill that he could work with , had he gotten the role, it would be turned out well, different, but well. .
