  • My expectations for Spectre are already lower with no Jeffrey Wright as Felix. :(

This is sad news I really want Jeffrey Wright to be in spectre and I want him to do something worthwhile like kill some bad guys or save bond.

I would be more annoyed if their was a new Felix!

Felix is best when he's necessary to the plot instead of showing up to provide some expository information.

So I take it Felix Leiter will not return in SPECTRE then?

He won't. Which is slightly sad as I really love Wright as Leiter, but I fear his tenure is over.

Might be a bit high profile, but I'd throw my hat into to ring for McConaughey as Leiter.

They seemed to be saying it was the last Craig Bond too on Sky News. Saw the text at work. I hope he will make more personally.

I guess it depends on SP. DC is a smart guy and he'll definitely weigh up whether he feels he's going to outstay his welcome. I understand that sounds nonsensical to most people, with SF being such a hit etc, but he's not one to suffer fools gladly and he doesn't need the money. He does however, I imagine, value his place in the Bond legacy and if he feels this is his time, I don't think he'll hesitate. If he wants to keep going he will. I'm positive this will boil down to a DC decision, rather than a studio/Eon one, irrespective of the SP box office.

i think Felix Leiter's absence might be partially due to the growing importance of the MI6 staff. And the fact that SF and SP are far less American centrist. Sure, you have Mexico in SP, so Felix could have shown up, especially given the position he earned at the end of QOS. But they already have the MI6 staff, many of them filled by new actors.

I think you're probably right. Which is a shame.

Hopefully Wright as Leiter will return in Bond 25 for DC's swansong adventure! :-?

It was the same thing in the old continuity: MI6 characters like Q and Moneypenny were recurrent characters. And were played by the same actors, another major factor. As a child, I remember having no idea that American friend of Bond in DN, GF, TB and LALD were one and the same.
  • Given the franchise's long history, it's really no big deal to have two films in a row without Felix. Like RogueAgent mentioned, though, it would be nice to see Wright as Felix for Craig's swan song—sort of an everything-comes-full-circle finish.

I hope this ends up being the case. It seems odd for them to have introduced Felix in Casino Royale and carried him over to Quantum of Solace (and with a terrific actor such as Wright in the role) only to drop him entirely.

The majority of Bond fans are more interested in the chief baddie, his brutal henchmen, the Bond women and of course, the action sequences. Felix is just a mere table lamp.

I think its good for dramatic content if you have Bond in stressful situations with characters that we know well and have seen him work with. The obvious example was Skyfall. Even though this was wasted in LTK, I think there is potential to bring back Felix in the next movie and have some drama between then. I think JW is a class act myself and it does not hurt box office to have US interest.

I love JW, but unless there is a story reason for him, there is no point to bringing in Leiter.

FL being killed in the line of duty is a perfectly good plot pusher IMHO unless we see him as a permanent fixture? It would divide the fandom.

Perhaps the long tradition of never sticking with one Felix is back in operation?

I wouldn't want something like that. Having him maimed however (in different circumstances than LTK) and return would be very nice however. Use elements of TMWTGG maybe?

Does anyone know why Leiter isn't in the last two films? Is it because they have no use for him or is Wright not playing along or something? I really like how he and Craig play along.

There's just no use for the character right now. I'm glad they havn't tried to shoehorn him in.

I remember their was a clip on an American radio show he was on and said their had been some contact? But I guess their were script changes and he was no longer needed? I do hope he is in Bond 25 though!

I'd much rather see Leiter playing a more significant role than the new trend of having the 'MI6 Crew'.

Me too. Leiter needs to be more prominent as he was in the novels. The best script being LTK thus far.

Agreed - especially if they do not have much to do to justify their existence (Tanner?).
