  • For me, this may sound funny but it was Goldeneye on Nintendo 64 that turned me into a fan. The Game is incomparible. The wii version does not do justice
  • My childhood love of trains. I was obsessed with them, so my dad sat me infront of the television and said "watch this, it's got loads of trains in it". Turns out it was Octopussy. Loved it, then saw Goldfinger on the television a few weeks later, and was hooked from there.

:-)) I've done the same thing with my son I told him there were lots of Mr Men in TSWLM, there aren't obviously but by the time he'd realised I'd spent most of the Sunday afternoon watching the film instead of having to sit through bloody children's TV.

The books which I nicked from my father made a fan of Fleming. Discovering a movie named Moonraker did start the movie appreciation for the series.

My father never asked the books back, or the Saint novels I kinda borrowed at the same time.

Watching DN as a 6 year old. Seeing the Seanman get it on. Been hooked on Bond ever since. Man, can't believe that was 23 years ago... :-? Anyway, I've been a Bond fan for as long as I can consciously remember.

I'm sure this gives away my age, but the video games. That's why I'd always thought of Pierce as the definitive James Bond throughout my early life. I didn't see any of the older films except Live and Let Die until about 2008 when I got the Ultimate DVD set for Christmas.

    After that, I was hooked.

truth be told, as a child, I did not care for the Bond films - only because the only time I would see them was on TV, and with commercials, I did not feeling like sitting through 3.5 hours to watch a movie on TV, when I had video games and baseball i could be watching instead... but i was always intrigued, because i would see the advertisements when TBS or TNT would do their 14 days of 007 marathons - and their was always this sexy alure too it, because they would have models dancing around to clips from the movies and such...

it wasn't until i sat down and watched Goldeneye one night on Showtime.. this was close to the time when the videogame was out - i had played the game some, but wasn't a fan (yet).. so I caught the movie, and instantly fell in love with it - thankfully i had taped the movie, because i would proceed to watch it over and over... around this same time, i had a Social Science teacher in junior high (this is jumping forward a year or two now), who was also a Bond fan - he was a fan of Connery, not so much the others - he had the Bond films on regular VHS - like the original VHS releases with their original covers... he would let me borrow them whenever and watch them... i can still remember the excitement i would get when i would ask to borrow Thunderball or You Only Live Twice - and the next day he'd have the VHS for me..... so, my teacher only enabled my addiction ;)... i believe it was close to this time, when for Christmas, my parents got me the VHSs of Tomorrow Never Dies, Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger.. i watched them all that night lol..... and since then, I have never looked back - i am as big a fan now, as I was then....

@DarthDimi sorry but i have to ask how old are you?
anyway i dont know how i got into watching Bond movies, everybody was mentioning in sentences like:why are you walking so slowly you are spy?you are just like James Bond and they kept mentioning Bond in sentences instead to use word spy.sentence Bond.James Bond was fancy too.So everyone were talking about that as a cool stuff.Once i was walking with my dad and i saw the poster for DAD (lol walking with dad to see DAD :) )and my dad said something about that (or i asked him cant remember) it is newest movie about Bond and that is Halle Berry and that she is first black bond girl ( cant remember who told me this my dad or TV :) and she is first Bond girl but not first black girl to show up in Bond movie) and my dad thinks that actor should be some big guy with black hair and that is Brosnan at that time and my dad liked him as Bond and i like him too (who knows maybe it is his influence of me to like Brosnan :) ) and after some time on TV there was almost all Bond movies expect the newest one and i always want to watch movies with many parts like Fast and Furious,Matrix,Lord of the rings but even i want really to watch them i cant get into them. That wasnt case with Bond and it was great to see old Bond movies and they were great and i liked them and here i am.... :) :) :)

I think ITV of all things, though my Dad knowing about the series must have helped as well, due to a marathon of all (at the time) 18 films. Though from a very young age I must have always known about Bond and what he did as I can't really remember my childhood without him.
  • Same as Alistair, The game Golden eye 64 when I was kid, but when I started actually watching the old Sean Connery movies I fell in love even more with the series and knew that bond was more than just Rambo as in the game I felt he was when I was little. From then on I wanted to learn foreign languages, master knowledge of all wine, vodka, and etc, and know how to "Woo" women as Bond does. Lol!
  • My situation is similar to SaintMark in that I initially read three of my dad's paperbacks, then borrowed the rest from the library before finally finding the films, Goldfinger on its release being my first. Been hooked on 007 ever since the first book - which was Casino Royale (the others being FRWL and Dr No).

Ha, I've already said it on other threads but I'll say it again. Mine was GE in 1995 when I was 10 years old. Remember being very excited by THAT poster but was too young to see it in the cinema as it was a 12.

Eventually saw it on video a few months later. Like many others I also spent hours and hours playing the N64 game (the good ol' days of multiplayer).

In fact I was watching it for the two-hundreth time the other day and my sister pointed out the excited look on my face when the tank chase came on :)

Really BIG TV!!! In that time, anyway...

I've absorted almost all my interest from mother's milk. So, I was subjected to this harmful material by my parents in the 80's, when I was just a wee lad, of age 4 or 5.

Damn yous. Yous parentses! Nah, big love, mom, dad! :)

Seeing them on TV. I saw LALD first(where Baron Samedi really scared me), then DAF. But with YOLT(my 3rd film to watch), I went from being a casual fan to the diehard one I am today.

A combination of things. I was in high school in the late 90's so Goldeneye64 4-player mode was always going after school at a friends house. Also, I'm somewhat embarassed to say, but Austin Powers probably had something to do with it. They were popular around the same time, and I did find them funny at the time. Now it's pretty base humor. But it was neat to see how much the AP movies borrowed from the original Connery films. I think having that frame of reference got me interested in the earlier films.

I was also quite the fanboy as a teenager as well, so seeing the Bond series seemed like something I needed to do.

Believe it or not; but the game Quantum of Solace for the Wii (now have it on 360 :D), that's what got me to buy the videos from the charity shops, watched GoldenEye (the first Bond film that i'd watched from start-to-finish), and well that's when i knew that i'd missed-out on something HUGE!

Then I got the first 20 on vhs for a tenner (huge bargain :D), then watched Casino Royale and QoS and instantly they all became my favourite film franschise of all time (i've got them all on 2-Disc Ultimate Editions now though) :')

Wow, I certainly feel like a geezer around here. My mother was a fan of the early Bond movies (mostly Sean Connery) so as a kid, I watched them whenever they were on ABC TV (before home video). I don't really remember the first Bond movie I ever watched. The first I saw in the theater was TSWLM and have seen everyone opening day ever since. I started avidly collecting James Bond memorabilia in 1981.

Wow @jaguar007. Any favourite moments from watching the series through the years? You must tell, I feel so unfortunate, if that's the right word, to be watching the films as they are now.

The fact there are so few of them can't help! X( *Eagerly awaits November 2012*

Of course 1983 was a big year. I was very excited for the "duel of the Bond films" I was in Nassau on opening day of Octopussy, the crowd was ecstatic. I missed reshoots of NSNA by 2 weeks but one of the Cab drivers was telling me how they blew up a hotel room next door the the hotel I was staying at. I attended a Bond convention in 1994 and got to meet George Lazenby. During the LTK-GE gap I actually thought the series had come to an end but was hoping for another film. I was fortunate to attend the GE world premiere and was 10 ft. away from Brosnan and other cast members. After the film I still wished Dalton was in the role :(

I have always preferred a tougher Bond so I really liked the CR reboot with Daniel Craig even though originally I wanted Brosnan to continue.
  • Was taken to the press screening of Octopussy by my Uncle (who was in PR for UA at the time) and was hooked on the movies from then on......

A few weeks later he took me to the double feature showing of FYEO and OP.... by then all I could talk to anyone about was James Bond!!

He also gave me all his Fleming Pan paperbacks- and bham! A Bond collector was born....

Some great moments there @jaguar007, thanks for sharing. I hope to add some great ones myself as the years go by. Next year seems like a great starting point for something unforgettable.

I do not know what happened to my post. Any way, in university in the late 50s our bunch used to buy novels and lend them to each other, and I got a novel called From Russia With Love by one Ian Fleming. I watched DN when it came out and was thrilled to see Fleming's character on the screen. Since then, Bond and Fleming form part of my system, although I read many many novels later by Forsyth, Ludlum ...

My Dad was the one responsible for getting me hooked into Bond. He didn't lie to me but rather encouraged me to watch Dr No on TV. I was hooked, must have been around 8 years old. I was very scared at the start when those bad men shot the woman and left her blood on the carpet. From that point on I would watch whenever they were shown on TV. You see we didn't have VHS, DVD or any on demand TV that we have today! Wow I think I am dating myself! Anyway I hope to one day pass my love of Bond to my son!

I was growing up in Italy in 1970 and Dad took us to see a James Bond Marathon in Roma: Goldfinger and Thunderball and Dr. No and From Russia With Love.

I still remember things like: the Spider in Dr. No, the Jet Pack in Thunderball, the Briefcase in From Russia With Love and the bad guy that killed people by throwing his hat.

Strangely, I don't remember the naked gold covered girl in Goldfinger. I guess when you are 5 years old, you don't pay attention to that!

I also remember my Dad had a briefcase that he didn't use (black with silver metal edges) and my Brother and I pretended it was a James Bond briefcase!

Every time I went over to my cousin's house, we would play 007 Nightfire together. I had no idea who or what James Bond was, except that he was a "secret agent." So the more I played it, the more I loved it, and eventually I bought it for $13.00 in a used games section of the video game store. After that, my interest in the world of 007 grew, and after I had several of the games, I switched over to the movies that I rented from Blockbuster video rental. Then I started buying the movies, the first being GoldenEye on VHS tape for $2.00. And, as they say, the rest is history!

When I was a young child, my mother went out one day and bought both GE and TND on VHS for me. Ever since...I've been in love.
  • Double feature of GF and DAF on TV one Sunday afternoon in 1980/81 when I was 11...all the guys ran up to each other on the schoolyard the next day going "Did you see those films? DID YOU SEE THOSE FILMS?!!". We were all even more excited than when we first saw Star Wars!
