SPECTRE: A full Vesper Lynd reference now is logical

I started to re-read the Blofeld-trilogy, because I think now "SPECTRE" is in production it's a logical thing to do (I did the same when "Casino Royale" went into production in 2005/2006. I re-read Fleming's first novel). And, for me it makes the experience also slightly nicer and more exciting :-).

But now I came across again to the references of "Casino Royale" that Fleming wrote inside the novel "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". In chapter 2, "Gran Turismo", we read:
"James Bond idled through the pretty approaches to Royale, through the young beeches and the heavy-scented pines, looking forward to the evening and remembering his other annual pilgrimages to this place and, particularly, the great battle across the baize he had with Le Chiffre so many years ago. He had come a long way since then, dodged many bullets and much death and loved many girls, but there had been a drama and a poignancy about that particular adventure that every year drew him back to Royale and its casino and to the small granite cross in the little churchyard that simply said 'Vesper Lynd, RIP'. "

So it's only logical "SPECTRE" will have this clear reference to the dramatic events from "Casino Royale". I am not certain at all if this reference will be mentioned in "SPECTRE", but it could work to see Bond visiting Vesper's grave in Rome, Italy....or somewhere else in the movie. Moreover, I do think that the novel "OHMSS" must have been read in great detail by Sam Mendes, John Logan, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and Daniel Craig no?

What do you guys think? Wouldn't this be the perfect moment to remember one of the best Bond girls ever, Vesper Lynd? Or don't you really care if there's no reference to Vesper at all in "SPECTRE"?

That'd be great if Bond visited Vesper's grave in SPECTRE.

Interesting point .. I wonder if he gonna do it though .. Maybe he gonna visit M grave I suppose .. But I like how you connect things and referring them to Fleming bond ..
  • I really hope Vesper does somehow get referenced in the film. I wouldn't even mind if they figured out a way to bring back Eva Green in some way (flashbacks or maybe just get her back to film some stuff for the title sequence).

I feel the producers are following the classic series model. The third Connery film is very much a standalone affair much like Craig's third film, however it looks as though Spectre will tie in with Craig's first two films considering Mr. White's return. It would make sense then that Vesper would be referenced in some way.

Speaking of Eva Green; I was looking over some old QOS stuff earlier and found the picture of Vesper and Yusef online. I was wondering is anyone here actually knew if Eva came back to take the photo with Simon Kassiandes or if it's just a really good photoshop job????

If she came back to take it, would that mean that Eva Green like Eunice Gayson actually appeared and filmed content for 2 Bond films?

They probably got the two of them to take the photo during pre-production.

And not only the first two @Pierce2Daniel. Remember that "M" will battle internal forces within Whitehall to keep the Secret Service alive. The first shot of Judi's porcelain bulldog says it all:

"SPECTRE" will tie all loose ends from all of Craig's Bond films, CR, QOS ánd SF, together. And that is really a unique thing in the history of the Bond films. And I welcome it with open arms :-).

Craig's era of Bond films have so much more depth story-wise. It could also explain why SF had some plotholes.

In any case, this topic is about a reference to Vesper Lynd. I hope it'll happen. In SF we already heard Bond saying: "I know when a woman is afraid and pretends not to be". I now love to see him talk more gentle about his late girlfriend Ms Vesper Lynd. It'll give "SPECTRE" some depth if Bond visits Vesper's grave like I mentioned from the novel ÖHMSS". Moreover, by doing so we should not be too afraid that suddenly now Tracy comes back.

Personally I really hope that the title sequence of Bond 25 (or whatever Craig's last will be) will include scenes from previous Craig movies, just like OHMSS included scenes from Connery's films.

I like that idea. I'm also with @Gustav on the idea of the Vesper/M reference. Two of the biggest women in Bond's life.

I keep thinking of the Jean Grey flashbacks and hope they can pull it off better than that. It would probably be wise to stay away from them altogether. It just seems awkward to me. I don't mind a reference to her name though.

Maybye 007 visiting her grave? Something like 007 done in "For Your Eyes Only"?
But i don't think there will be a proper palce for that kind of sequence in "Spectre".

I just got this message in this topic from @Comte_de_Bleuville: http://www.mi6community.com/index.php?p=/discussion/10419/spectre-shooting-schedule-may-contain-spoilers#latest
We also know that there will be filming in the historical Rome cemetery of Verano.

Lots more information on the Rome shoot here.

So is it happening??? Will Bond visit Vesper's grave in Rome???

    Anyone?

Just some wunderful pictures of this classicist cemetary (I live in Barcelona, and I once visited that cemetary with a tourguide on the "Night Of The Deads", and it's a truly wunderful experience. Violin players. Visiting tomb stones from very famous people. Like in many South-European countries the coffins/bodies are piled up):

If Mr White is in, I am fairly sure Vesper Lynd will be mentioned somehow.

I think it'll be a bigger reference. Especially since filming will take place on the Di Verano cemetary in Rome.

I'm quite extatic about it. "SPECTRE" is really trying to connect all the narrative from the previous three Bond films. Moreover, if applied properly, this reference to Vesper really is straight from the Fleming novel "On Her Majesty's Secret Service".

I'm all for more continuity in Bond movies. It sorely lacked after OHMSS.

I think the resonance of "SPECTRE", the theme so to say, is certainly "death"...in perhaps a way more dominant way than we've already seen in "Skyfall". I really think this will be the first Bond film of the Craig-era were the Bond villain's only goal is to inflict death....and by doing so getting more power. Silva for instance, was still acting out of reasons of revenge.

This sixth series of Bond films (DC era) so far has a linear and chronological quality severely lacking in the previous installments. Hopefully this will remain the case.
Thus, my personal hope is that whatever this cryptic message from Bond's past is, it is something that feels organic. Hopefully it is not something goofy that has no precedent, such as Bond's barber as a boy turns out to be Blofeld, or something equally silly that suggests a history that Fleming himself had never written. That's where SF gets a bit muddled for me.

Rather than going back to Bond's pre-agent days, I'd prefer the clue or warning or whatever be found in CR.

I think it was Mendes, soon after he signed on, that made a point of saying that they had sixty years of Bond novels and films at their disposal. I'm paraphrasing, obviously, but it looks like that was a sincere statement. We're getting SPECTRE back, who were at the center of the climactic trilogy of Ian Fleming's run; as well as Bond's nemesis in some sort of fashion in every film up until Moore arrived, with the exception of GOLDFINGER. We're getting characters and background information from the short story OCTOPUSSY. And to cap it off we (by all appearances) will finally get some sort of resolution regarding Quantum and Mr. White.

That's covers quite an impressive breadth of Bond's history. I tend to think that we are going to get some references to Vesper. Maybe some sort of Tracy analog. And I hope we get Blofeld. This is all very exciting.

Same here @Birdleson. I am also insanely excited about all this.

--> "SPECTRE" back (Ian Fleming's novels "TB", "TSWLM", "OHMSS", "YOLT")
--> Blofeld could be back (Ian Fleming's novels "TB", "OHMSS", "YOLT")
--> Mr White from "QUANTUM" is back (the film's "CR" & "QOS")
--> The Austrian Oberhauser family, Hannes Oberhauser's son Franz, is introduced (Ian Fleming's short story "OP")
--> James Bond visiting Vesper's grave (Ian Fleming's novels "OHMSS")

It's all way too excited jeje

I am trying to not read any of the SPECTRE threads, but this one seemed to be fairly speculative. I'd not want to know anything concrete beyond what I do now. But it looks like we'll get a nice cross-section of Bond lore.
Same (yet an idiot wrote the movie ending in the "Title Bond 25" thread, hope he got banned).

@dominicgreene Don't worry, I think he's just going by filming information and guess work - he hasn't read the script so it's not 100% that that's what's actually going to happen

Thanks @JCRendle. I think that's actually the nicest way to enjoy the road towards the premiere of the film. Guessing.....and then also be right about it hehe.

I remember very well that, when I created the "Who's going to play Ernst" topic in 2012, many fans declared me crazy. And, it must be said, I was wrong too (Ralph Fiennes would not play Blofeld). But look where we are now....3 years later. All the negativity about re-introducing SPECTRE and Blofeld has been muted completely.

Imagination, positivity, and smart guessing can make the Bond experience so nice at times :-).

Some photos from the set of Museum of Roman Civilisation, it's getting ready for filming tomorow:

    20150218_91021_j15.jpg
    20150218_91021_j21.jpg

Looking at the pictures (GREAT PICTURES, WOWIIIEEEEEEE :-P), the Museum is doubling for a cemetery! And I didn't know, there were memory placques / crematorium placques / tombstones on that wall! So in fact this location is not doubling hehe. This could confirm that there will be an important reference to Bond's past love life. Ooowh my, SP is going to be one hell of a movie :-P.

Now it could also make sense why James Bond will be visiting Italy. At least....partially. In many past Bond films, the only connection that made 007 travel to other locations, was a trail of the villain. Which will still be the case in "SPECTRE" I think. But for continuity aspects, it's even more wonderful that there could also be an emotional reason for Bond visiting Rome, Italy :-).
