    Slightly off topic again :D
But in Die Hard 5, to get into the radioactive vault they spray some sort
Of gas, which nutralises it. So is this just a piece of Hollywood "make believe"
Science, or does it exist ?

No, there isn't a magic spray so to speak. Radiation has a half life of millions of years so once exposed to it, a human would be radiated for the rest of their life. For anyone that goes through the Van Allen belt, that life would be rather short.

I did, think it may have been a bit of Hollywood science.

Probably was a hoax, which then makes you wonder why NASA or Russia have not tried to venture to the moon since, if it has still not yet really been achieved......

I suppose there is no real need and nothing to be gained from going there. Plus there is the Van Allen problem.

Pity no one is focusing on the two big probes that arrive this year at their destinations :-). NASA's "Dawn" probe is moving closer and closer towards dwarf planet Ceres. This is the newest .GIF image from the dwarf planet, made this week:

Conspiracy theories are cute and extremely amusing in films, but those who take it seriously in real life, especially concerning aliens, are morons.

Does.....anyone....actually follow the current NASA missions? Or are conspiracy theories more "fun" than the actual exploration that is taking place :-)?

Trust me, @Gustav_Graves, I am on top of that stuff. ;-)
It's just a bit strange to talk about serious science in a thread meant for the "mysterious". :)

Hmmm, then I didn't understand the topic title very well hehe. I thought real-life worlds like the moon Europe and the dwarf planets Ceres and Pluto can be mysterious too.

Perhaps - just keep it as mysterious as possible! :)

The video The Truth Behind the Moon Landings, I think does a very thorough job of debunking the conspiracy theories.
    It's 48 minutes. Well done, I think.
Explains, how a flag could flutter, why stars might not be visible in photos, how the Van Allen radiation belt didn't have to be a problem, how shadows didn't have to be parallel, how areas could be lit, that supposedly couldn't with only sunlight etc.

I love good conspiracy theories. But they often latch onto supposed anomalies, without allowing that there could be an explanation.
I would really like to see Bond go to the moon, get into space again.

An organization like Spectre could surely have a base on the moon, which might threaten the world. Do it like Moonraker but with a little more "realistic"edge.
Maybe the new young Bond that replaces Craig eventually could have a lunar adventure.

Mythbusters did an entire episode about the moon landing conspiracies.

We must have landed on the moon, or how could the Russians have built
That big freaking secret base up there ? ;)
