BOND SCRIPTS

Another nice thing about the CR script is that at times it fluctuates what Bond is credited as; sometimes he is called 'BOND' and other times 'JAMES'. He is only called James at his more human and emotional moments, something I don't think was a coincidence.

The title page says it's by Purvis & Wade, with a second set of revisions by Haggis. Query: could the "JAMES" part be part of Haggis' revisions?

–Bond’s line after saving Octopussy: “I knew you were a swinger — “

I’m glad that was dropped and on the whole the final films probably have turned out for the best in most cases apart from the climax to Diamonds. Certainty some bullets were dodged- P&W’s idea of Bond using a Jet Pack in TWINE....

Some of the other scripts yet to surface, and be great if they did:

P&W’s original QoS and Skyfall drafts
    Peter Morgan’s Bond 23 script
    Frasers Octopussy draft
Mankiewicz’s TMWTGG draft, TSWLM and MR revisions
    Whittingham's Thunderball
Shooting scripts for many other Bonds, especially Thunderball, YOLT, OHMSS

@Pierce2Daniel do you have a link to France’s GE script?

Glad they didn’t go with the WTC location. After 9/11 it would have put the film into a very specific place in time and many seeing it back may have found it a hard watch, probably resulting in an unpopular entry into the canon.

@MrBond Can I please see Goldfinger? Also does anyone have P+W's first draft of TWINE? That one is pretty rare.

I am very eager to see the very first draft of Casino Royale they wrote with Pierce Brosnan in mind. Any of you chaps there have it?

I know that it was supposed to be a period piece and Tarantino has said that it wouldn't have been released as Bond 22

  • Is there a shooting script for Skyfall available anywhere?

Thanks for bumping this thread @MI6Agent. Just read about TWINE. While the finished film seems like a big improvement (Bond soaring round London in a jetpack is way past the point of self parody), I do like the idea of Renard's pet hawk. That's something they could use in a future film.

I also read the PTS of the original GE draft (the one that was still written for Dalton I think), with Bond stopping a terrorist attack on a high tech luxury train, and as OTT as it was I kinda liked it. It's very 90s and over the top but it was an entertaining, original opening. Seems more suited to a computer game than a film though, with how it played out, but I wouldn't mind seeing the scenario repurposed/reused in the future.

Where did you read about TWINE?
  • Thanks for bumping this thread @MI6Agent.

Don't mention it. But does anyone know anything about that Skyfall script?
  • @thelivingroyale:
The original GoldenEye draft by Michael France is a hoot. It fails as a Bond movie but it’s highly entertaining as an action movie. It’s long and overstuffed and is essentially a series of crazy, over-the-top action setpieces, many of which have been used in subsequent films (the sawblade helicopters in TWINE, the plane/helicopter dogfight in QoS) and there are still so many left over. I think there are something like 11 action scenes in there, and they are very fun to read. Just don’t look for too much plot
    :)

The characterization of Bond was also bad.
  • "Characterization" in a Michael France script? :)) That's precious!

The characterization of Bond was also bad.

As are most of the other characters in the finished GE film in my opinion.

Xenia, I feel, was showing her exaggerated persona. Don't get me wrong, I love Famke. But, I don't hold her too dear to me as a character. Boris is annoying, too. The rest however I have no complaints about. Especially Alec. Sean Bean's menacing performance made the character brilliant.

  • Anybody know about the original drafts for Diamonds Are Forever? They are mentioned in The Making of OHMSS, along with summaries, but I'd love to read them! As well as the original OHMSS drafts!

Hello everyone, take a look at this script (which probably wrote William Davies and William Osborne)

I hope someday someone will find it and share it in PDF format.

This one is sold in script city and I think it's the one written by Alfonse Ruggiero and Michael G. Wilson in May 1990. Hopefully someone will buy it and share it in PDF.

They're probably with Richard Maibaum's papers, which were donated to the University of Iowa.

Interesting BOND 17 script. I actually never realized the Alphonse Ruggiero treatment went as far as it did. I always read it was only a treatment that hadn't gotten to the scripting stages. Very cool.

There is probably also the treatment written by Michael Wilson and Richard Maibaum in November 1987 that contains elements from the short story "The Hildebrand Rarity" and that the story was in China with the main villain named Kwang.

I'm assuming those were the early LTK Scripts?

I have a copy of the long fabled Connery Kevin Mcclory script from the late 70s. Really an oddball piece!

Yes. Initially, Richard Maibaum and Michael Wilson wrote a first treatment with a story that occurs in locations of China. The chinese government wants that the producers visit them and they go. But the chinese government wants control and vet things of the production, so later the producers go to México looking another locations. Take a look of this extract from the book "The James Bond Archives" by Taschen.

  • That's interesting; had they gone down that route LTK would've been entirely different to what we have now, I'm interested in seeing how that would've turned out

Yes, I am also very interested in that treatment, but I am afraid it is among the documents of Richard Maibaum who donated to the University of Iowa. Check out the website of this university: https://lib.uiowa.edu/scua/msc/tomsc150/msc149/msc149.html#Series%20V.%20%22James%20Bond%22%20Projects
I am sure it is in the box 23 along with the treatment of BOND XV of November 1985, which tells the first mission of a young James Bond that becomes 007. Fortunately, the website of Commander James Bond France, have been able to recreate by means of two articles this treatment of 1985: commander007.net/2016/03/bond-15-rebooter-nest-jouer-part-1/
I hope someday somebody will do something similar to the treatment of BOND XVI of November 1987.
I would be curious if someone went to the University of Iowa just to be able to photograph and take note of the text of these treatments.
    :D :))

That would be great. See if you are lucky and someone is encouraged. By the way, do you have any (or the two who wrote) script written by William Davies and William Osborne? I know one of the two who wrote is from January 2, 1991. Or do you have anyone who simply has the title "James Bond 17"?

Nope I unfortunatly have nothing about Bond 17 in my papers (exept the Micheal France script).
PS : C'est Clément de CJB.

All I have of Bond 17 is:
-The chapter from the book "Some Kind of Hero".
-The article that Clément published about the story of Bond 17.
-The one that CJB published about the script by Alfonse Ruggiero and Michael Wilson.
-The article that Clément published about Michael France's Goldeneye draft.
-And the January 1994 Goldeneye draft written by Michael France in PDF.
That's all I have about Bond 17. I wish I had more to share.
I guess someday we'll get Davies and Osborne's script (or both) about Bond 17.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I would love to know who Simon L. Aturif is and what he contributed to the '90s Bond films (treatments? screenplays?).

Aturif has a co-author credit on drafts of both GOLDENEYE and TOMORROW NEVER DIES, but I've never seen his name mentioned in any of the Bond reference books, including Some Kind of Hero. I also can't find any information about him online, so I'm wondering if that name was a pseudonym (perhaps for Michael G. Wilson).
