  • I'd say so. If I had to pick one classic for each, then it'd be as follows:

    Sean Connery-From Russia With Love
    George Lazenby-OHMSS
    Roger Moore-For Your Eyes Only
    Timothy Dalton-The Living Daylights
    Pierce Brosnan-Goldeneye
    Daniel Craig-Casino Royale

    Connery - Goldfinger
Lazenby - OHMSS although most of the time he was emulating Connery
    Moore - A View To a Kill
    Dalton - Licence To Kill
    Brosnan - Goldeneye
    Craig - Skyfall

Connery: Goldenfinger how can't you say that one. It has a famous Quote when Goldfinger locked Bond onto the laser and bond says do you expect me to talk and Goldfinger says No mr. bond i expect you to die.

Moore: I would go with Man with the Golden Gun just because it was a fun one to watch

Dalton: I would pick licenses to kill was a good one kinda wish he would have done more but it ok.

Brosnan: I would pick Golden eye was a classic for him. I say this because look how big the video game was. It was a good one but I wouldn't call it a classic

Craig I would go with Skyfall. How can't you this one they put bond to the test. Casino Royale was nothing. The movie was basically trying to win at a card game with a love story at the end.

IMO, the classics from each actor are:
    GF
    OHMSS
    TSWLM
    TLD
    GE
    CR

These are not all my favourites from each actor.
  • Been a year since a last update but every Bond has done at least one legendary James Bond release

Connery - Dr No / From Russia With Love

    Lazenby - OHMSS

Moore - The Spy Who Loved Me / Moonraker

    Dalton - Living Daylights

    Brosnan - Goldeneye, TWINE

    Craig - Casino Royale

Say again, Every Bond. No-one is left out when it comes to at least one classic James Bond adventure. They have all provided at least one release each that has reached legendary status. There can be no dispute

Some of them have done more than one classic IMO.

    Connery - GF, FRWL, TB.
    Laz - OHMSS.
    Moore - TSWLM, OP, MR.
    Dalts - TLD.
Broz - GE, probably TWINE as a runner up.
Craig - CR, SF- a very near tie with CR.

I would state honestly that in the case of Daniel Craig the jury is still out as he is the current 007 and good for one or two other movies. So far I find CR easily his best.

I agree. It's difficult for me to call any of the Craig films "classic" yet as they are all still relatively new.

Connery - DN, FRWL and GF are classic in every way.
Lazenby - OHMSS (Not sure if the general public would agree though)
Moore - TSWLM (You might be able to make a case for some others. They all have their supporters and detractors.)
Dalton - TLD (Again, not sure what the general public would have to say about that.)
    Brosnan - GE
Craig - CR if indeed 7 years is enough time to give it the "classic" label. We'll see what the consensus on SF is in a few years time.

    SC - Goldfinger
    GL - OHMSS
RM - FYEO (As much as I hated it, it still has some classic bond)
    TD - TLD
    PB - GE
    DC - CR

    I'd say so.

Like or love them, you could probably make a case for all of Connery's films somehow.
OHMSS for George is certainly a classic.
Rog has TSWLM, FYEO and OP.
    Tim has TLD.
Brosnan has GE, TND, and TWINE.
Craig has SF though I think there's also much of a case to be made for CR and even QoS in some ways.

and even QoS in some ways.

QOS, how do I love thee, let me count the ways... ;)

I mean the way Bond acts in the film is very reminiscent of Connery. "We are teachers on sabbatical and we have just won the lottery." is absolutely a callback to the 60s era.

Also, the Tosca sequence. Very traditional Bond. As much as I think QoS is awful, it's not the worst Bond film ever and there is some gold in it thanks to Craig.

    Yes I totally think so

For Sean: FRWL, Goldfinger,Thunderball were 3 classics
George: Only did 1 but I think it was one of the biggest Bond movies ever made
Roger: His first 4 I would say are defintly classics tho I like some of his later films better
Timothy: Unfortantly no. Tho I thought his films were good they are not classics.
Pirece: Def had 2 classics in my book. Goldeneye & TWINE
Craig: Casino Royale and Skyfall are classics. QoS no f**** way

    How do we define classics?

I would say TLD and LTK are classics but a lot of people would barely remember them.

I think by containing either the traditional escapist/suave-Bond elements of GF, SF, etc. or Fleming (TLD, LTK, OHMSS, CR).

Daniel Craig in The Property of a Lady- http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sfCR8iBIi4Q
    Great Bond girl!
  • To me a classic has to perfectly represent the era and act as the milestone for that era of 007.

Connery: Goldfinger takes the crown. You could also make a strong case for Thunderball or You Only Live Twice. However...

Lazenby: OHMSS a definite classic, and encapsulates the late 60s era, so that cancels out Thunderball as Connery classic.

Moore: Spy Who Loved Me the best 70s movie and defines that era, but is similar to YOLT so cancels that out.

So Goldfinger to me strikes the balance between early soundstage Bond and later outdoors epic 60s Bond, so that I think should be deemed Connery's classic.

    As for the rest?

Dalton: He has the least claim to be an epic. I guess I will grudgingly make Living Daylights classic status. It is the perfect example of an 80s Bond movie. Not my favourite area of Bond, but an imp[ortant one. A defining John Glen movie, sums up the 80s Bond, and gives a taste of Dalton. So yes I will give TLD classic statess.

Pierce: Goldeneye a definite classic. Best 90s movie by a long way. Only 90s movie with a sense of identity even. Nobody can ever take this away from Pierce: he has a classic Bond. Pierce is unpopular at the present, but trust me The worm will turn, just as it has for Moore. Moore was in Pierce's positen 10 years ago: reviled, hated. Now look at him. Soon Craig will be hated. It is the psychlical nature of Bond fandom.

Brings us to Craig: Royale has not aged line a fine wine. Looks cheaper a bit with each passing year I'm sorry to say. Miami Airport scene drags and is dreadful, common demoninator trash. So to me SKYFALL is Craig's classic and so far defines his Bond era. QOS - what's that? I cast it out, what a vulture of a film.

But you know if? Well, here's hoping Craig's classic is still to come. THREE CHEERS for Bond 24 and Mendes. He's back...

TND was Pierce's YOLT, but with more heart & soul. TND & YOLT are the two best BIG Bonds, both classics in their way.
    IMO.
  • I agree that a BIG Bond every now and again is essential to the series identity.

But TND fizzles out to me, whereas other big films, YOLT and TSWLM, build to huge finales and leave you with an epic feel. If anything, DAD for all its foults is Pierce's big Bond epic. It was at least trying for a epic scope, even if it fell short and again, fizzled out.

This also holds true with the theorum that each Bond actor's 4th Bond movie is their over the top epic that creates controversy among fan base. TB, MR, DAD all controversial, accusations of being bloated, but all definitely epic in scale and scoop. I am a fan of all 4. Let's see this makes me excited for what Daniel's 4th Bond movie might offer...? :)

Connery - DN, FRWL, GF, Thunderball (Goldfinger - My favorite Connery film)
    Lazenby - OHMSS
Moore - TSWLM, AVTAK (I'll probably catch hell for the latter but I do love it)
    Dalton - TLD
    Brosnan - Goldeneye
Craig - CR, Skyfall (Casino Royale - My favorite Craig film)

I really love Bond films as well as the actors who played Bond. I've never seen a Bond film I didn't enjoy. I can't wait for the next one!
  • There are two ways to look at it, popular perception and personal opinion.

    In terms of popular perception:

Connery: Dr. No-You Only Live Twice
    Lazenby: None
Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me
    Dalton: None
Brosnan: GoldenEye (even if the video game gets an assist)
    Craig: Casino Royale, Skyfall

    In terms of personal opinion:

Connery: Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger
Lazenby: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me
Dalton: None (Only two films, sadly, but he doesn't have one that's less than good)
Brosnan: GoldenEye (no video game assist)
    Craig: Casino Royale, Skyfall.

    Connery- DR, FRWL, GF
    Lazenby- OHMSS
    Moore- TSWLM
    Dalton- TLD, LTK
    Brosnan- GE
    Craig- CR, SF

    Simple.

  • Sean - GF (also my favourite Connery BOND)
    George - OHMSS
Roger - TSWLM (also my favourite Moore BOND)
Timothy - TLD (although I prefer LTK)
Pierce - GE (probably his classic BOND - but I prefer TND)
Daniel - SF (my favourite Craig BOND and I also believe a more classic BOND than CR)
  • As for what I would classify as "Classic" Bond films:

Connery: Goldfinger, From Russia With Love & Dr. No... Classic, all three! Thunderball falls just short of classic though still in my 100 best films ever made.

Craig: Casino Royale has become my all time favorite Bond classic, and I was around when Dr. No was first released. At this point I'd definitly include Skyfall as classic, though time and the release of more Bond films could possibly end up changing my view.

Moore: Well, he kept me on the 007 train that began with Connery's Bond, though Moore's have not dated as well. I'd still have to enclude The Spy Who Loved Me as classic Bond, because IMO it was his best Bond. I REALLY liked For Your Eyes when it was released and Sheena Easton's title song, though it has dated it's self a bit out of the classic range. Live & Let Die was very good but just a bit too whimsical for my tastes.

Brosnan: Though not the level of Bond that Connery & Craig portrayed for my money, He definitly got me back on the 007 train that had gotten a bit dull. I'd set Goldeneye as a true classic. Though the main antithesis in Tomorrow Never Dies never worked for me...at all, the action scenes and Brosnan's portrayal elevated the film to near classic level...but not quite.

Dalton: He's a good actor that I've ejoyed in most other films, but he was just not the Bond that I was accustomed to. I will watch TLD & LTK any time they are on TV, though they fall short of being classic.

Lazenby: I know that most Bond fans are very fond of OHMSS, yet the poor lead acting job (I understand that Lazenby was not a trained actor) and the EMBAARRASSING costumes that they had him wear, deflated the otherwise good movie plot and action sequences. Sorry all, OHMSS doesn't make the classic cut!

So that's my take, go ahead and let me have it!
