What's your Bond theater going tradition?

As I just started thinking about Bond 23 in theaters, I sat and thought about what I did for the other Bond films. Saw DAD once, CR three times, and QoS five times in theaters. This made me curious: what do you all do when Bond releases in theaters? Do you dress up, see it a certain amount of times, order anything special when you go?

Nothing special, though before Quantum Of Solace came on in the cimema, past Bond themes were being played to ramp up the tension I'd guess. Very odd but something I don't think I've heard of happening anywhere else.

I've only ever seen Casino Royale once and Quantum Of Solace once, maybe I'll see Bond 23 at least twice if it's good enough.

I live on the East Coast of the United States, about twenty minutes away from the only Alamo Drafthouse, and they always show special cartoons, movies, etc. before films. When I saw 'The Crazies' there, they had the original playing first. I saw 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon', and they had the cartoons playing. I have a feeling come 'Bond 23', they will show clips from the old films, which should be very entertaining.

Working at a movie theater, I guess B23 will be a usual day at work... Although I will arrange my work hours to stop just before the last showing, as I did with QOS. Will go eat at Subway at supper time...

    Hmm.

I've seen TWINE, DAD, CR and QoS at the cinema. TWINE was with my gran, to young to go by myself. Simply magical, I wanted to be Bond so much, and, to this day TWINE holds a special place in my heart. That one was in Wells, Somerset.

The other three were in Bath. DAD was in Robins. Anyone remember that? Good times. The Craig era was at the Odeon. Me and my friends had just started Uni, it was half term, a friends birthday was coming up, and we all flocked back to Bath! It was amazing. They’re was six of us.

Unfortunately only three of us went to QoS. Shame. Everyone was quizzing me, being that I was the resident Bond geek. I also saw it a second time; by my self. I had just got back from Bristol: job interview, in a suit, and I decided to see QoS again, just spontaneous!

@royale65 I bet that felt cool, walking into a Bond film in a suit!

    I always go three times:

    1) Taking my mother, for she is a huge Bond fan too.
    2) Taking a few close friends who are also Bond fans.

    (several weeks pass)

    3) Going between 1 and 3 more times, depending on who else is interested in it. So far, the girlfriend isn't much of a Bond fan but I'm determined to baptise her in the teachings of 007 before November 2012 ;;).

I didn't bother seeing all Brosnan in theater, wasn't worth it.
CR I saw twice iirc, QOS once.

I usually try to go by myself the first time, as to further avoid anyone talking in my ear or texting within eyesight. I'm usually pretty calm when I go to see a movie, but if it's Bond, I refuse to mess around. Anyone texting will get a complaint.

@Creasy47; it was. I even walked in there "like" James Bond. Bet the girl at the counter thought i was a right pillock! ;-)

@royale65, haha, no way. She was probably jealous of how cool you were walking in there. I like trying out the James Bond walk when I'm in public. DC has a certain walk to him that's fun to imitate.

I've only seen 1 in the cinema (QOS) it was a multi-plex, It was in cinema 3. the corridor leading up to it had little bond posters form the 21 other films in a frame.
  • I have a shave, wear No 89 Floris, put my Omega watch on, play with my collection of Bond cars, then i go to the bathroom twice, once before I leave and once before the film begins, so I don't have the urge to leave my seat.

I make sure I always take a pretty lady with me, so never my wife, and I clean my ears too. I also wear linen as I get hot and bothered watching Bond films - nervous excitement probably.

And I only watch them once at the movies.

  • What a great idea for a thread like this. Thanks Creasy =D>

My tradition when I began seeing the films in 1968 was going with my Dad and younger brother. With the exception of 1983 (they went to see NSNA and didn't like it, I went to see Octopussy and had a much better time) this is how I saw each film until 1989, which was the last new film I saw with my Dad before he passed over. My brother has continued the tradition with me, with my wife joining in at the start of the Brosnan era during our first few months of marriage (I remember crying just before GE started because Dad wasn't with us, and it is still a little strange to this day), and now my son will be joining us for his very first big screen Bond film in 2012, which would have made my Dad very proud. It's always been a family thing for me for the first showing and always will be, I won't go without at least one family member with me.

Since the advent of VHS, I have always had a Bondathon timed to end the day before the new one debuts. I am always there opening night and usually see the film at least once more (with the exception of DAD for obvious reasons most would understand) before it leaves the theaters. DVD always pre-ordered when available.

@SirHenryLeeChaChing, thank you, I appreciate it!

I like your Bondathon idea. I started one yesterday, on OHMSS now. I might have to try this come next year. Would be nice to get amped up and see film after film, just to go in and see a brand new one to top it all off.
  • I've seen every one in the theatres since TLD, usually on opening night. During the Dalton years it was just my best friend and myself as Dalton wasn't as popular with teens our age. During the Brosnan years there was more of a group going, and now during the Craig years my girlfriend and several female friends want to come!

Saw both Daltons in the theatre twice, all the Brosnan only once, and CR twice on first run (but only once for QoS). Also saw CR and QoS once each in the second run theatre as their initial runs ended. It's great to have a bigger TV to see the films on now but nothing beats on the big screen with an audience...

Why, because it's been so damn long since the last one? That seems like a good enough reason to me!

First Bond film I saw in theaters was Die Another Day and even as a pre-teen I didn't like it....

Saw Casino Royale three times in theaters, loved it every time and continue to love it!

Saw Quantum of Solace an astonishing five times in theaters...but I only paid admission for two screenings ;-) The rest were coupons/promotions etc.

I plan to see Bond 23 a minimum of three times in theaters, unless it is complete crap....then two times :-D

I don't have much tradition other than the fact I must see the film on opening day.

I have seen DAD only once in the theaters, CR four times and QOS two times.

I travelled to Austria just to watch CR because it came out two weeks earlier there than here in Hungary. I haven't done that for any other movie ever since. :)

CR was a blast. I went with 2 other Bond neutral friends. One of them loved it, the other thought it was okay but didn't like the Venice sequence (He's a second unit director by trade). But we rallied up for Kettle One Martini's afterwards on a whim. That was a good time.

Always go up to London to watch Bond since FYEO. Since DAD I go to Odeon Leicester Sq with a buddy of mine on premiere night and watch the 1st showing after the royal showing. Dressed in a suit to feel the part. Then we go and watch couple more times at local cinema in the following weeks. Will be doing that next year.

@SJK, good job! I saw QoS four times in traditional theaters, then once at a local $2 theater that plays films that are only a month or so from DVD release.

From LTK forward, I've seen each Bond at least 3 times in theatre on first release.
Actually CR I paid to see 4 times and QoS 5 times so B23, even if there is lots to crab about, I will probably pay at least 5 times to watch it.
Bond is so much better on the big screen. May as well take full advantage of the first run opportunity.

Every Bond film I've seen at the cinema I've seen in London. With SF I sort of broke tradition there because for my 2nd viewing I was in Manchester but I did see it once in London before that.

Also, for every film since DAD I've taken a girl I was going out with and it was a different girl each time. Again I broke tradition with SF because I'm engaged now and it's the same girl I saw QOS with.

I normally get something to eat after too but I do that when I go to the cinema in general.

The first Bond film I saw at the cinema was TND. Saw every film after that at the cinema and been to the opening night of CR. I keep saying I will go to London to join the crowds at the premier some when.
