Goldeneye Workprint

edited March 2017 in Bond Movies Posts: 229
Some time ago, I got some interesting footage from an user over at CommanderBond.net, the Goldeneye workprint.
It's a tape in rough but watchable quality with no timecode and different music with with some interesting differences to the final cut of the movie.

Interesting, @Gunbarrels007. Could you tell me what's on the uncut version of Dr. No?

I'd love to see the work print for OP.
Anything different from this to the finished film?

whats so different about TLD workprint?

@BondFanMedia says on another thread that there are some notable differences on TLD workprint, @Pierce2Daniel...

    - The unused gunbarrel where Dalton made a jump
    - A few scenes are extended that were later cut a bit
    - The music is from previous Bond films since the score of TLD hadn´t been finished
    - No Main Titles
    - Necros voice sounds different (Wisniewski was later dubbed I think)
    - Afghanistan Airfield action sequence is missing

One has to really know the theatrical version inside out to spot all the details in the workprint.

But what really interests me is the uncut Dr No workprint. :)

The uncut version of Dr. No shows a more extended fight with the taxi driver, Bond shooting more bullets at Professor Dent and Dr. No's henchmen beating up Bond was toned down.

Not much, except that some lines are not dubbed. It does have the soundtrack as the scoring was done earlier in during production.

Thanks for getting back to me, @Gunbarrels007. It's my understanding that there were a few more cuts made to Dr No. Does your copy include:

    1) Dr. No's line I'm sure she will amuse the guards was considered too sexually suggestive, and has been redubbed instead to The guards will amuse her.

    2) Shortly after, Dr. No's henchmen beating up Bond as he is sat at the table has been trimmed, introducing a dissolve to the next scene much earlier to cover the removal of violent footage.

    3) Bond's fight with the chauffeur has been trimmed, including the removals of blows to the chauffeur when he is unable to defend himself. A knee kick in this fight was also removed.

PS. Do you have the working print of FRWL?

Yes, these cuts are in my version of Dr. No.

I have watched the workprint of FRWL but i don't have it.

This workprint talk is very exciting.
The Cr and Sf workprint would be interesting considering those films were nipped and tucked quite a bit.
Also TWINE was said to run for like 3hrs when initially put together but Apted has said that the reason the cut was so long was because all the action sequences were put in totally uncut, apparently the pre-titles ran for just over half an hour.

That's interesting. I'm glad they went with the version we have. That jump just doesn't look natural.

Coincidentally, when I was browsing through Goldeneye videos on youtube, I stumbled upon a workprint version of the car chase between Bond and Xenia with the property of MGM/UA logo. I don't recall any differences but the video is from the same workprint as I have.

Dr. No has a rare uncut version on VHS from 1982.
The Octopussy and Goldeneye workprints were given to me at the Commander Bond forum.

Very interesting indeed @Gunbarrels007! First I've heard of "workprints".

This must be this version of Dr No that is uncut, @Gunbarrels007. It's the USA release in 1982...

Wow. I want a GE workprint, even if it was just for one viewing. Sounds very unique.

Don't we all? If only they were more readily available than they seem to be.

@Dragonpol, absolutely. I didn't even bother looking into them because I knew I would be swiftly disappointed.

A user has send me a message asking me if he would like to add both Octopussy and Goldeneye workprints to he's website http://www.freewebs.com/workprints/ I'm going to discuss it with the person who gave it to me at the Commander Bond forum. It would be a nice addition to the database, which already has The Living Daylights workprint.

I own a VCR/DVD combo so I should be able to digitise the tape but i'm not sure if the person who send me the workprint wants that, so I have have to talk about it. Anyway, feel free to visit http://www.freewebs.com/workprints/ The workprints for Octopussy, The Living Daylights and Goldeneye all already added to the confirmed workprints. The OHMSS TV Version, the banned commentary tracks and also the extended 1954 live TV Casino Royale episode will also be added.

Sounds good - especially the '54 CR which I've yet to see in full.

I uploaded the workprint version of the scene where Alec shoots the laboratory worker in the facility. More workprint scenes to come.

Thats rather brutal. It plays better in the film; seeing Bond and Trevelyan run down the corridor out of sight quickly before calming walking past the window and going in a killing the men. It was the right decision to cut on the sound of the bullet, it works better.

What's interesting is that the workprint scene reminds me of CR, which was really rather violent, I suppose its no coincidence they had the same director.

I agree that the scene in the final film most certainly looks better, but hell, I'll take any alternate footage from GE. The more you upload, the better. Can't wait to see the others!
