Was George Lazenby's James Bond a casualty of the Hippy Revolution?

Other than the Connery films, Lazenby and his film are my next favorite bond. Judging from the documentaries I've seen, the only thing that kept George from going forward was himself. He really comes off poorly in the making-of docs on the DVD and everyone is saying it nicely. The truth had to have been much worse. In short, he was a jerk, which was too bad because I thought he was great in the role.

Lazenby just made a mistake in not signing a new contract.

Nope, George just made a big mistake in acting like a total arse.
  • Pretty much was a colossal douche. Even he admit it in the documentary Everything Or Nothing. It was a shame. Give him at least two more films as Bond and he would of found his form. I love OHMSS!

..and grown up on the way, and certainly spared us some of the silly Moore humor.
