Keifer Sutherland offered the role of Bond after Pierce?

Struggled financially? Maybe they should do some better research.

I'm not sure how true that is. 24 is one of my favorite shows of all time and he's a big part of that, but I couldn't see how EON would think he would be right for Bond

This is complete rubbish. I love 24 and Jack Bauer is my my 2nd favourite agent with the intials JB but no way is Kiefer Sutheeland right fro Bond. As villain perhaps ? Could work. Or a Bond/24 crossover? Said with tongue firmly in cheek!

This would have meant he would've had to give up his role in 24, if so.

Really think this cannot be true. Far too doubtful. Keifer was awesome in 24; I loved it. Jack Bauer is one of my fav characters, with or without those initials. No way Keifer would have left that and tried to play a British agent. Unless he was on drugs while making that decision. So nope; I think totally untrue.

I don't see how we can have a major discussion on this. But here we go ... ;)

I don't think this is true, and I couldn't help but smile when I saw the price of the book.

A little off topic but for whoever has seen the third season of 24, I always imagine the villain of that season as "Bond gone bad". Ex MI6 and all. Sorry just a side thought

Bond running around shouting "Dammit!" all over London would have been weird as hell.
  • I think this is complete rubbish! The article already has two major mistakes: it states that the Bond franchise was in trouble financially at the end of the Brosnan era, while DAD (no matter how bad the movie was) made a lot of money, and it states that Sutherland was concidered for the role of Bond 'early in his career as Jack Bauer', while the casting for Casino Royale began in 2005, when he would have been half-way through his tenure as the CTU-agent. Pretty bad mistake for someone that's writing a biography!

Wasn't that guy rumored to play Bond or something?

Whos he going to be called if we have an american Bond? Jack Bond? Anyways from reports that hes a drunken menace on set I doubt Kiefer will take over the reins of 007 much less any other bigscreen leading role. Hes a drunk.

So you think Kiefer would put on a british accent if he were to play Bond? Highly unlikely.. If EON productions chose Kiefer it would only be to revitalize the role and have bond be a full blooded american.
  • As opposed to having an Irish, Scottish, Australian or Welsh Bond?

I mean coming from an American, I have no trouble with actors of other countries putting on accents for the role. And I'm NOT saying that Kiefer would be a good Bond but he WAS born in London.

Kiefer Sutherland's Bond, a brief fanfiction:

Kiefer Sutherland's voice in a British Accent: The Following takes place between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM (at least in the US, it does)

--Bond rushed into the apartment block with seven other MI6 agents. In one hand was his standard HK USP 9mm, in the other was a flashlight. He swept the hallway, just as the seven other men did. They each carried HK MP5s with attached flashlights. At one point, he passed a door that was open, and a woman inside looked up in shock. He calmly shushed the woman, then Bond and his team continued to sweep the area.
--On the stairwell that led to the second floor, Bond halted his team with a simple hand signal, then he slowly ascended the staircase and jammed the butt of his handgun into the back of the terrorist's head. He waved the team the signal to follow, and then they continued to search the building.
--At the end of the third floor hallway, Bond heard Arabic voices, though he didn't understand what they were saying. When he and his team approached the door, he held up two fingers: the team had two seconds to throw the flashbang grenade after he kicked the door in. He kicked the door, the team leader tossed the grenade, then they entered the flat, two-by-two.
--Bond entered with the final man, going through the kitchen. He shot one Arab, two bullets to the chest. A second reached for his procured AK47 but two bullets in the skull took him down. Once the smoke from the grenade cleared, Bond looked around for the stolen Russian suitcase nuke, but he found absolutely nothing.
--Over the phone, Bond heard M's voice: "James, did you find the nukes?"
--"No, they were gone before we arrived."
--Chloe O'Brian's voice came next: "James, we spotted two people by satellite leaving the building just after your team went in, one of them was carrying a large, silver briefcase, it looked like."
--Bond kicked at the small kitchen table. "Dammit!"

Is the racism really necessary, Bond murdering arabs has never been key to the franchise... Lets not offend, now now.

You clearly fail to grasp the 24 allusions in @Agent007391's post. And it would be wise to think twice before accusing a member of racism. This has absolutely nothing to do with racism; you clearly do not understand the meaning of the word. Iron Man kills Arabs in his first feature film. Does that make the film racist? But your mistake is not so much the meaning of the word. Your mistake is the finger pointing with the term racism in close connection with a respected member who never had anything racist in mind. Calling people racist for zero reason will get you in serious trouble in the real world. Avoid such things, friend, for in modern society, you don't walk away with that so easily any more...

As @DarthDimi said, I was just making reference to 24. In every even-numbered season of 24, Arabs are the bad guys (or at least are the first bad guys of the season).

Season 2: Second Wave has Arabs working on the nuke, is set up in three unnamed Arab nations, and has converted Americans to radical Islam.
Season 4: Turkish Arabs are the villains.
Season 6: Russians are using Arabs to detonate suitcase nukes on American soil.
Season 8: Arabs buy nuclear material in order to make a bomb.

Hilariously, each one of those seasons also involves in a nuclear threat at some point.

I was not being racist, I was just poking fun at one of my favorite shows. I'm not racist in any way.

Thank you! I do have to say, I simply pulled the joke about "The Following" out of my ass when I accidentally capitalized the letter F in Following.
