    1. Goldfinger
    2. Live and Let DIe
    3. Diamonds are Forever

    4. The Man with the Golden GUN

Can't believe so many people rate DAF so lowly, Have none of you got a sense of humour :))
TMWTGG is one of the most mundane of all the Bonds, at least DAF is entertaining.
And to everyone who rated GF last I am speechless!!

No doubt there are some great gags in DAF and it does have it's moments, it just feels a bit slow and the finale is really poor.

I don't personally find DAF slow however TMWTGG definitely is.
Out of all the Bonds DAF is the one that has grown on me the most. Connery is having a great time and after his poor performance in YOLT it was a fine return.
How many times have you seen DAF? If not a lot, trust me it gets better each time.
The finale may be poor, but lets be honest the finale is the least entertaining part in most of the Bonds. For me its about locations and character interaction and DAF has this in abundance.

    DAF quote:
Bond: "Well, one of us smells like a tart's handkerchief." (sniffs) "I'm afraid it's me. Sorry, old boy"

That line alone, IMO, makes it a far better film than TMWTGG.

I've seen DAF quite a few times, it really does have some fantastic dialouge and while Connery is out of shape, he does give a good easy going performance. I do prefer it to YOLT and TB.

TMWTGG is cleary not a favrouite of many but i've always liked it and never seen it as a weak entry.

OHMSS69, if you read Raymond Benson's book you will discover that Hamilton tinkered with the scripts so Hamilton cannot blame a bad script.

Hamilton rejected Mankiewicz tougher and more serious script for TMWTGG.

1: Goldfinger (#15 on my overall list)
2: Live and Let Die (#16 on my overall list)
3: The Man with the Golden Gun (#18 on my overall list)
4: Diamonds Are Forever (#22 on my overall list)

Honestly, Tamahori aside, Hamilton is probably the worst director the series has ever had.

Is that film worth seeing, timmer? I've debated watching it but never got around to it despite its director.

As a second part of my post, it's unfortunate that I disapprove of Hamilton as a director; I've heard from numerous people here and in general that he is the absolute consummate professional and the kindest, most endearing chap in real life, always taking time to talk to fans and give autographs even when on vacation, even now at the age of 90-something.

@timmer considers Diamonds Are Forever one of the best films of all time, if I'm not mistaken and yes, the best Bond film.
  • I'd love to know what @Timmer's worst film of all time is then! ;-)

    possibly QoS

Well as an uber Bond-fan, ranking the Bond films, not just DAF and the other Connery/Laz classics, as the best movies of all time is really a no-brainer. Godfather and Apes rank as the next wave of all time great films IMO. We are talking orignal Apes though. None of the sequels or follow-ups were earthshattering.

But as a Bond fan I can't actually rank QoS as worst movie of all time. That would be rather obtuse. It does feature the very fetching Kurylenko after all.
But it does IMO, rate as most disappointing movie of all time.
Worst movie of all time might be Damon/Greengras's The Green Zone although there are plenty of other worthy candidates.

re "best" film vs favourite film. I don't like to play much with that disctinction. Not being a film critic, its not terribly relevant to me; ie I have seen Gone With The Wind twice. Sat through it, all the way through. Quite enjoyed it both times. Great film by all accounts, but I'm not likely to ever watch it again.
Meanwhile DAF and GF - have seen each at least 50-plus times, quite possibly more. I have actually no idea, but I do hope each film is good for at least another 100-plus views.

Welcome back Prince! Yes its very much worth seeing, although it could have been a little edgier considering how provocative the books are, but it does have its moments. It's kind of done in the spirit of the Rog Bond movies, although Fred Ward as Remo is a lot more menacing than Rog.
Another Bond connection has Christopher Wood writing the screenplay.
After viewing the film, be sure to then read all 150 Destroyer novels. That's what I did. The film pointed me towards the books, and I couldn't put them down, mainly because the biting social satire is funny as hell, plus Remo is a very potent op with unique Sinanju skills.
I love escapist spy adventure. Bond is the ultimate in the genre of course. Destroyer became my new companion novel series.

Thanks, timmer. Been taking somewhat of a break from Bond lately. With Hamilton and Wood collaborating on it, RWTAB does sound like a flick I'll need to take a look at.

Indeed. He's the great defender of DAF, Jill St. John, Guy Hamilton and the entire Harry Saltzman era(1962-1974) of Bond cinema. A true living legend among Bond fans.

DAF is a *somewhat* worthy follow up to YOLT IMO.
    To OHMSS? Not so much.
But if you consider OHMSS to happen after TMWTGG...
    Anything's possible. Eh?

I usually watch DAF after YOLT then OHMSS. I usually fits better in terms of continuity.

Still not a fan of the Hamilton Bonds.

    LALD
    GF
    DAF
    TMWTGG

DAF only misses out on the bottom spot for the genuine laughs it gives me.
