@thelivingroyale, I'm thinking about going back and reading some of those spoilerish threads; see how much more I would have known going in. Such a shame that people want to know every single tidbit of the movie before going in. Didn't they organize every single scene and piece it all together, beginning to end?

There wouldn't have been many surprises if you had. Hopefully next time around, people will have a bit more respect and keep it to one spoiler heavy thread. I think it's fair enough if people want to do that, personally I think it's bordline mental, but each to their own.

The main problem this time was people popping up in threads where some of us were hypothesising, and chiming in with 'Well I know what happens, who wants to know?' or 'We know you're wrong because of the clapperboards'. This takes all the fun out of speculating and got really, incredibly tiresome. Some idiots, who've since left (obviously) made it their business to just respond to these speculation threads with hard facts, which was even worse.
  • @Creasy47 Pretty much.

@RC7 Exactly. I was speculating about how I hoped there would be a big finale on Silva's island and some arsehole chimed in with "you haven't been reading the clapperboard thread have you?"

If people want to ruin the film for themselves then fine but please don't ruin it the rest of us.

Yep which is one of the reasons why I avoided the clapper board thread. Some people were clamoring to get a hold of the script and storyboards too. It's crazy and @RC7 is right, you had some a-holes running around dropping spoiler bombs in various threads just to show how much they knew. Star Wars fans were never this bad and that's saying something.

Yep, no more activity from VeryBond here since Nov 2012 for instance. Now he knows less than many instead of more...

When I was part of those running the French fan club in the early 90's, I knew everything about Goldeneye well before it hit the screen, from the final action scene to the DB5 cameo, we knew people on set etc... It indeed spoiled it for me in the end. I've been since on sets of French movies, and it's indeed fun to be there in the making process, but just being spoiled, and not being on set oneself, is actually the least exciting thing to be I found out.

Now for instance for SF I simply left the forum while it was becoming too spoilerish (but VeryBond had time to manage to ruin some parts for me for posting in unexpected threads the spoilers...). Next time I'll try to be even more away from it. And when I come back, I guess some will call me "newcomer" again :)

  • The problem with spoilers is that it's a full-time to job to police the threads to keep them out...either mods need to watch the threads in real time every minute of the day, or have a delay in posts showing up until they can be reviewed. Neither of which would happen with volunteer mods.

I was quite lucky to escape most spoilers save two - what Skyfall itself was and the fact that the end of the movie took place there, and the death of M. The death of M was something that certain posters were so...joyful about that it was easy to think that it was merely wishful thinking on their part (these were posters who had a near-misogynistic anger that Bond's boss was a woman or that Barbara Broccoli had "infected" the films with her "feminist agenda"). So when the shootout at the parliamentary hearing took place I was surprised that M *didn't* die; in fact at that point I thought, okay, I guess she does live to be in the next film. But as soon as I saw that she was wounded at Skyfall Lodge then I knew she was gone - which, I think, anyone watching the film would guess whether they knew any spoilers or not.

Most of you have seen already, but Ben Wishaw stated him and Craig would be working together again in 10 months.
    http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2013-02-19/skyfall-star-ben-whishaw-daniel-craig-and-i-will-be-back-together-in-about-ten-months

So will Bond 24 be shooting by January 2014?

Wishaw would have to know when filming begins right...

So yeah right now signs are pointing to a January start date

I have a hunch Craig does his optional fourth and if things go well, Bond 24 is a success he and especially the producers want to continue their working relationship, then I can see him doing his fifth. Sixth would be an added bonus :D Would likely seal him as one of the three best Bonds. Which he, by this time and for now, is. The other two are of course Connery and Moore.

    Let it be January 8->

so if it is 2014 does this mean maybe Tom Hooper instead of Sam Mendes?

Actually I was just thinking.. Mendes and Paul Greengrass did that questionnaire together.. perhaps they've pulled him in?

But beyond speculations, they've definitely got a director, meaning we should know very soon what to expect. :)

Mendes will have completed his other commitments by January, so should be ready to jump right in.

Any guesses for when we'll hear something official? I say June.

    This.
June seems like a good time. EON announced Forster would direct "Bond 22" in June and they also announced that Peter Morgan would help write "Bond 23" in June as well. Doesn't mean anything but it's something to point out

Indeed. It's so odd going from four years of nothing to four years of constant speculation and news. Odd.. but enjoyable. :)

Yes, especially as now that SF is out on DVD I was thinking that the forums would start going into hibernation mode...

luckily no hibernation mode yet. I think Logan and a competent Director be it Mendes or Hooper or Morrel ( Bond directed by the director of Taken the best and most orignal non bond/batman action film how can I be the only one wanting this) or perhaps Tomas Alfredson ( I haven't seen Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy but I want to and everyone has wanted Craig's Bond to do a bit more spying) can make a good bond film in 2014...

And that said They Made Casino Royale and then the (in my opinion) brilliant Quantum of Solace in two years time I think they could do it again.

Okay, I love Taken...but calling it "original"? :))

Exactly. 10 months from now makes December but give or take a couple of weeks we could be looking at a December/January start; either way it doesn't matter as, the most indicative thing to take away from all if this is, Bond 24 will be released in 2014.
I hope & prey for that too.

  • I think the mega success of SF has meant that the expectations for Bond 24 have doubled and I think a big part of the plan next time is to get Mendes back. So unless the story at the moment is so good that they can entice him to jump straight back on the Bond wagon then I can see no problem with a 2014 release.

But as we history has taught us the team need a good year to crack the script, and often moving too quickly, while an exciting prospect (as we get another Bond film sooner than later) can lead to a rather rushed release. On the last 2 year cycle we got QOS and you just have to look on these boards to see the general distaste for that film opposed to the slower more deliberated release of something like SF which admiration is sky high for.

The success of Sf has meant that not just any ordinary 'Bond film' will do, it has to be good. The bottom line on why Sf was such a success was that it was a good movie and people were talking about it a lot, the buzz was near deafening. The last thing the prods want is a so-so reaction after the non-precedented critical, award and financial success that was SF. I'm guessing they want that trajectory to keep going up and time is needed to get the story right without a doubt.

Therefore, I think a 2015 date is inevitable and something that should really be embraced. The wait is a small price to pay in order to get a great film.

I don't agree, that your points make a 2015 inevitable. Not neccesarely - they are onto it for too long already and since we have NO idea how far things have proceeded, none of us can make any "inevitable" arguments IMO. Its a pure guessing game, that really doesn't make much sense, because we playing with empty balls.

yes, longer wait does not gaurantee success or failure! for every SF (long wait) there is a DAD (also a longer wait). I think Mendes and Logan cracking the story (late last year) is what makes me excited that bond 24 might be as good if not better than SF. Mendes and Logan are both confident now ... all point towards a fall 2014 release! YAY!

Mendes coming back (almost a certainty right now by what I've read) will help speed up the process. The core group of actors are coming back. Moneypenny, Q, M, Bond, he's got his cinematographer on board, etc. This makes gearing up the next film that much faster b/c all they have to do is turn the machine back on. Everything is in place, pre-production wise. The script has already had time to simmer and stew.

2014 for Bond 24 is very doable.

It can't be 2014. The script should be finished and approved by now and it isn't. Movies needs three years minimum or the sequels sucks. One year writing and prep, one year shooting and release, one year promo and rest. It's fall 2015, or it's a crap QOS film all over again.

Oh how wrong you are. Just look at the early Bond films (DN, FRWL, GF and TB). All done back to back to back to back, and all exceptional. It all depends on the talent and vigilance on a film set when a film is being constructed. Not every production timeline is common to all, where some strive to finish fast, others requiring more time. We simply don't know enough information to classify Bond 24 in regards to their timeline.

OBrady, you make some points but I have to go with Stamper. Yes, the movies were back to back in the 60's and they turned out nicely. It seems that when they have less to work with they get more creative and turn out a better quality product.
That being said, the scope and magnitude of TB right on the heels of GF could never be done today and I just don't know why. With these multi million dollar budgets and with more technology, you would think but no, QoS was rushed and came out two years after CR and it looks rushed and messy. Four years between DAD and CR and look how CR turned out. four years between QoS and SF and look how well that turned out.
  • I've read that Mendes is committed to a BBC TV project in late 2013. If he does Bond24 it will not start shooting until well into 2014 making a 2015 release inevitable.

Speaking of QoS, I hope they decide to bring back Quantum in some form or another. Watched QoS just now and it's really not a bad movie. It would be a bad move to deny that the movie or the organization ever existed. Like Thunderball after Goldfinger, I'd like them to explore the organization behind the first two movies.

I'm also fairly sure that M is now one of the mainplayers. Today were connected to other people more than in the old days. I would think it's the same for secret agents. They also cast another great actor to play M, so they will most likely utilize him more than Bernard Lee and I'm prepared for that.
