Well G.G i hope it does not drop to hard this weekend in the face of the Hobbit particularly internationally where The Hobbit is being predicted to be perhaps be the Biggest international grosser not made by James Cameron e.g over $950 mil Overseas. So i fear it's run overseas will be shorter then it could of been. Skyfall will drop hard this weekend every as it loses basically all it's IMAX screens to The Hobbit. Still i think a billion is a lock will finish somewhere between Alice in wonderland and Pirates 4 in final gross as in $1.30 billion.
Alice in Wonderland has more than billion? :-O

SF doesn't deserve to outgross TDK??? Utter nonsense. Both are very good films but I do think TDK is painfully overrated. IMO Batman Begins is the best if the trilogy. Had Nolan kept to the filthy grittiness of Begins for TDK and TDKR, I'd regard them as better films but like with every batman film to date apart from begins, the latter 2 movies, for me, were saved by the villainy of Joker and Bane.

    My rating then:
    01) 'The Dark Knight'
    02) 'Skyfall'
    03) 'Casino Royale'
    04) 'Batman Begins'
    05) 'The Dark Knight Rises'
    06) 'Quantum Of Solace'

    ;-).

Thats 6 awesome films and i agree with you're list. Skyfall runs it close though.

It can't be far off now, can it?

Meanwhile, it looks like another $7 miilion in the US this weekend. At this rate, we'll earn more than Twilight. :D

I'm looking forward to seeing the numbers for this weekend after finally receiving some competition in 'The Hobbit.' I'm seeing on BOM that SF fell behind 'Lincoln' for Friday and took the #3 spot.

Maybe, but I think after 5 weeks in cinemas, it is more important to take into account this comparison. Take a look at it and shiver. 'Skyfall' is dominating 'Quantum Of Solace' and 'Casino Royale' together: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/showdowns/chart/?view=daily&id=craigbonds.htm

@Gustav_Graves, very interesting. If it follows the same pattern, then the film should make around $12 million total by next Thursday. Hopefully it can manage on this same path until China's release, though I'm not sure how long it will be in theaters still.

I think another impressive thing is the number of screens. Whereas 'The Dark Knight Rises' opened with 4,000+ screens, 'Inception' back in 2010 with 3,700+ screens, 'Skyfall' had a surprisingly low number of screens when it opened: 3,526. Only about 50 to 70 screens higher then the debutes of 'Casino Royale' and 'Quantum Of Solace'.

One reason for that? Sony Pictures / EON themselves did not fully anticipate this success either. From now on, Amy Pascal will be bugging Babs and Michael much more. Because Sony = Bond now. Period :-). Expect Bond 24 to be much bigger. It will now surely open in more than 4,400 screens in 2014, on par with the last Dark Knight film.

Skyfall had a 100 more cinemas then Quantum of Solace. According to box office mojo Skyfall has lost nearly 500 cinemas this week. 3,500 is not screen count it's cinema count that it is shown in G.G. It was shown at probably around 8,000 screens in 3,500 cinemas in the US on opening weekend. No way is it getting as many cinemas as TDRK rises for bond 24 to get that many the previous film has to have broken opening weekend records and earn at least $300 mil in the US. Also TDKR was in the summer where openings are much wider expect bond 24 to open at around 4,000 cinemas in the US similar to the recent twilight film did about 4,000. You do not get huge 4,200 plus release in November.

Also Skyfall on Friday earn $1.85 mil good for 3 rd place behind TH and Lincoln should earn around $6 to $7 mil this weekend and fight with Lincoln for 2nd place. Skyfall is a day away from passing a $100 mil more then QOS in the US.

If any of them dragged it was seriously TDKR and for me was the worst of all three with TDK still standing very easily at the top if I was going to rate them.

I know some think TDK is overrated and I agree as some have said it's the greatest fillm of all time which of course it isn't but it's seriously still for me the blockbuster of the last 2 decades, I didn't expect Rises to be better but they dropped the ball with that one.

    1. TDK
    2. Skyfall
    3. Batman Begins
    4. TDKR
    5. QOS

    2) Batman Begins
    3) TDKR
    4) TDK
    5) CR
    6) QOS

Sorry....I meant theatres off course! :-S . Still, an opening of 4,000 theatres for 'Skyfall' in November would have seen more logical afterwards. But then again....afterwards we talk about this :-).

Can someone explain this whole 'opening in 4000 cinemas' thing to me please.

Some people are saying SF only opened in 3500 cinemas but TDKR opened in 4000. Who are these 500 cinemas that in the middle of a recession choose not to show SF?

SF is the biggest film out there at the moment and in the week of its release (before Twighlight) there was no other competition. How are these 500 cinemas still in business? Just what films are they showing that they think will generate them more money than a billion dollar box office smash?

Surely if you own a cinema and you want to make money you show SF? Simples!

Well Skyfall has been a breakout hit and no one predicted it would make around a billion dollars W.W also the 3500 cinemas is in the US only. Where it is not as bigger hit as TDKR also these 500 cinemas maybe be smaller cinema's with few screens so they saved there cinemas for the final twilight, the twilight films are a guaranteed hit in the US, a big cinema can of course show multiple films at once while a cinema in small town america can show very few so these one's must of chosen twilight. Another factor is TDKR was a summer film and they open wider at that time.During the summer you need a huge opening weekend to make a lot of money before a lot of other summer blockbuster come out. In November and December films open smaller but stick round for longer with better legs apart from twilight of course but twilight is a weird franchise at box office.

Ah so we're only talking cinemas with one screen in Hicksville then? In which case would these have made that much of an impact overall?

Also wasnt SF totally on its own for a week before Twilight? Or is it just not worth these tiny theaters getting hold of a print just for a week so they opted to go with Twilight and ditch SF. Mind you I'd be a bit pissed off if I had to drive hundreds of miles to a multiplex to see the film that was taking America by storm because the idiot running the local theater decided not to show it. The perils of living in the boondocks I suppose.

    Anyway thanks for the clarification.

Yh it's happens in the UK as well my university towns cinema did not show films sometimes to like 2 months after release awful lol. TBF twilight has made similar amounts of money to Skyfall in the US so it's understandable from there point of view to show Twilight also i think the studio pays to distribute it as well this can effect cinema release numbers.

SUNDAY AM UPDATE: Sony Pictures’ and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s Skyfall, the 23rd film in the James Bond series, opened overseas in 25 markets and grossed a staggering $77.7 million, #1 everywhere. Setting the pace was of course the UK, which opened to an enormous estimated $32.4 million (£20.1M). Smashing the all-time Saturday attendance record Saturday, this is the biggest opening of 2012 and the 2nd biggest Friday-to-Sunday opening weekend in history there, behind just the 3D Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2. This launch was 76% bigger than Daniel Craig’s first turn as 007, Casino Royale, and 30% bigger than Quantum Of Solace. Of the $77.7M on Skyfall, IMAX is estimating a weekend gross of $3.5M in 79 locations in 15 territories which include the UK, France, Russia, Korea, Bulgaria, Middle East, Kazakhstan and Brazil.

The U.K.'s fascination with James Bond has never been more intense, at least at the box office. "Skyfall," the latest entry in the super spy franchise, has set the record for that country's biggest Monday ever, taking in $6.8 million.

Dating back to last Friday - two weeks out from release - Skyfall hit a massive 50,000 tweet mark in a single day. The momentum has carried ever since, having totaled 194,267 tweets between Friday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 30. Granted, the film's international debut is contributing to the high volume of discussion but its an impressive stat nonetheless. Perhaps an even better indicator of the strength of that buzz is the excellent 11.6 to 1 positive-to-negative ratio of the tweets.

Next stop $300 million in the US, that would be nice. Also $1 billion before China.

China's release is January 20th, you said? I could see that happening. About a week or so ago, I was worried that SF wouldn't even be able to hit $950 before China, but now it's looking like a possibility that it will hit $1 billion before the release there. If so, hello #1 Bond film of all time.
