Will we ever see a film simply titled "James Bond"?

This year we had Alex Cross, and the upcoming Jack Reacher, and next year we get Jack Ryan. Does anybody think that, maybe after a future reboot (should that ever happen again), we'll get a film that's simply titled James Bond? Maybe with 007 attached at the end.

If this thread, or a similar one, exists, go ahead and lock this. I tried looking for one, but the "search" option just seems to give me every post made in the last 20 minutes and doesn't actually give me anything related to what I searched for.

No. Unlike other movies, the character of James Bond lives in a world bigger than himself, therefore the titles will never be charactercentric.
  • Well, not James Bond, but perhaps 007.

    That's probably more likely.

I don't know why, but it'd be strange.

I don't think so but if the title was a name I could see simply... BOND

James Bond or 007 don't need to be titles of a movie. The series doesn't need to sell and promote the name unlike Reacher, Cross et al.

    I wouldn't watch it..

There was a rumor before Quantum of Solace was announced as the title that Bond 22 would be just "007". I thought back then that the film would need a good reason to be titled that. It would have to do something with Bond and his 00 status. Otherwise I'd see it as a publicity stunt. If the title relates to the film, I don't care what it is honestly
  • "The Secret Agent" would not be a good title either?

If one day, many many years from now, there's another hiatus that causes Bond movies to stop being made for a long time.... then I could picture them making a new one further down the road simply titled 'James Bond'

Pretend for a minute that EON stopped making movies after 1971's Diamonds are Forever, and there wasn't another Bond movie at all until Never Say Never Again (which would have made the movie a HUGE event); that's the sort of length of time I'm talking about.
After all, NSNA was almost called 'James Bond of the Secret Service' but they couldn't get away with that because it sounded to similar to OHMSS

Of course not. When the film will have 007 somewhere in the logo for the movie title, you know to expect Bond. I think EON are clever enough to think of something on their own, and hopefully avoid a typo this time. ;)

I hope not. It just sounds generic in the fact that it would make sense for a reboot or the first film in a planned trilogy/series, but for a series that has been going strong for 50 years? It isn't needed, and won't seem right if it's just a regular, ordinary Bond film that isn't a reboot.

I'm now curious as to what they'll go with for 'Bond 24' and 'Bond 25.'
  • They could call it "Bond, James Bond"

    or

    "Shaken, Not Stirred"
  • Dr No wasn't called that so I doubt any other film will. I don't think there will be another reboot at all, or if there is one in the future it'll be a long way away.

It could happen if the EON series comes to an end and we have a long gap and a big reboot a la Batman Begins or Man of Steel.

    Would be crap though.

In a word- maybe. Providing Bond films are still being made in the distant future- it's not impossible one bit. I do believe 'James Bond: 007' could work. In fact, I can't think of a title more appropriate for the 100th anniversary film.

James Bond of the Secret Service - was the title of the first attempt at a Bond film by Fleming, McClory, Bryce and Whittingham. I always thought it was quite good, despite never really wanting them to use his name.

With Bond i think if it is not one of the unused Fleming titles? Then obviously it should be something creative and not just his name. Although it can work for the villain though!

In a way - and in the right context and setting - I think it could work.

The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) was the closest we ever came to it and no doubt that's as close as it ever will be to referencing James Bond himself in a Bond film title.

It's worth noting here (as something of an aside) that it's already happened twice in the official literary James Bond with Fleming's '007 in New York' and in the official literary Bond continuations with John Gardner's No Deals, Mr Bond (1987).

Perhaps a century later, we will see a James Bond.

I'd be happy with JAMES BOND, 007, if it was another back to basics film.

Yes, it would rather emphasise the focus of the new film making a clean break with the past, like with Daniel Craig in the reboot with Casino Royale (2006).

One day more then likely I don't think 4 years ago when this thread was created we would have a bond film simply titled Spectre and here we are

Well that's true and many of us felt underwhelmed when we first heard it I'm sure. Now it kind of feels not too bad (for me at least!).

Well I think Jason Bourne is a dismal title and James Bond would be even worse.

When you think of the poetic titles Fleming gave us and even some of the decent titles Gardner and some of the other continuation authors gave us to go down this route would be the very definition of the series being creatively moribund.

Interesting how this has actually come to pass. The OP was quite prophetic...8-X
