The Last Movie You Bought?

edited March 2011 in General Movies & TV Posts: 72
Recently purchased the Blu-Ray of The Mist. I actually love this film. I am currently reading the novella and I know that I'll be craving to re-watch the film once I wrap up the book.

the last blu ray i bought was The Social Network... made it 20 minutes into the movie, and my blu ray player decided that it didn't want me watching movies anymore.... so, until i get a new player, i am holding off on buying movies..

oh i know... i saw it in the theater, and absolutely loved it - so when it came time to watch it, and my player decided it didn't want me to... yeah, let's just say - that i carefully ejected the disc, put it back in it's case - then i taught my player some valuable life lessons...

what caused the blu-ray player to die? Are these machines not built to last?

i have no clue what caused it to suddenly not want to function, or read a simple disc... at first, i thought it was the disc itself - it shouldn't have been, because it was brand new - but i cleaned it anyway, still didn't work... so i threw in another dvd - player didn't work, so i tried cleaning out the player, reinserting the disc - still didn't work... this went on a for about an hour before i gave up..

i'll just use my tax money and get a new one..

Son Of Flubber(1963), one of my favorite classic Disney live action comedies.

  • edited March 2011 Posts: 4,622
Son of Flubber :) I probably saw that as a child. Funny. Paul Lynde from Bewitched.
Nice collection of posters Major, especially the last two.

===I saw the new Red Riding Hood movie. Its a smart little werewolf horror film, that plays with the Little Red Riding Hood legend, although Amanda Seyfried's "Little Red Riding Hood" is not quite so little or innocent.

Edit:"Last movie you bought". just noticed thread title, but I'll leave the Red Riding Hood comment as I'll probably buy it when it hits bargain bin. It's a worthy horror film worth watching again.

    Inception.

A great film, perhaps a modern classic. Thirty or forty years from now I think it will be remembered as a film of "this generation", if you will.

A Nolan Bond film would no doubt be an interesting thing....

... the most recently purchased of which was The Man with the Golden Gun - my old copy of it was getting worn out after all the viewings.

Before that, 24 Season 8 (on release day) - great series to end a great show. Much better than any English rip-offs which may or may not have been mentioned above as much as it pains me to say that.

I think the only films I've ever bought on DVD are the first 21 Bond films. I'm just not much of a collector I suppose. I've had films on DVD bought for me but that's it.

A rubbish answer and likely the only time I'll respond to this thread. :-))

Good to see another 24 fan :) (and I'm English).

For me the last DVD I got was probably The Social Network. Before that it was The Town with Ben Affleck. I've got A LOT of DVD's but since joining LOVE FILM its been my resolution not to buy as many.
  • Shutter Island - the last newmovie i've seen

But last night i decided to watch On Her Majesty's Secret Service, for the second ever time (last time i'd watched it was in late 2009), to me i'd never likedthis film for some reason, but after watching it again (and not been able to remember a thing from it, apart from the sad ending), i actually quite enjoyed it, the action (as in fight scenes) were brilliantly done, and made Lazenby's bond seem likethe toughest guy around, and felt like he was actually punching the guys to death (whichy i found amazing from a film that's 42 years old :D)

But thereare things that bring the film down in the bondfilm list for me:
    - After the fight scene on the beach, bond turns to the camera and says; "This never happened to the other fellow" (referring to Connery's bond), wich just made it seem like a self-parody and took it away from the realism.
    - The film, evne though only been two-hours + in length, felt to be dragging towards the end.
    - I don't really like lazenby's bond that much, he's not very nice to look at either (no offense)
    - And(even though a good idea), i don't like how they refered to previous bond films, including Dr. No, which seemed strange, since the line he said at the beginnig told us that he is a totally different guy altogether :$

Don't get me wrong, i liked the film, but if it had a better bond in it and took the line away, and made it shorter, it would be one of my personal favourites.

A classic childhood memory for me, sir. That (along with Star Wars & TSWLM) was my ritual 'day off sick from school and slobbing it out on the sofa' movie!!! Haven't seen it in 25 years or so!!!

Picked up Tron:Legacy on the Ray yesterday, and will be popping into the city lunchtime to grab Carpenter's 'Ghosts of Mars' for 3 quid in the HMV sale (only Carpenter I haven't 'upgraded' from VHS)

I recently picked up the Alfred Hitchcock: The Legend Begins collection; 20 of his pre-1940 films including The Lady Vanishes, The Thirty-Nine Steps, The Man Who Knew Too Much(original), and more. It was only $5; can't beat that.

My previous Bond movie purchase peaked my curiosity and I'm glad it did. I just bought the 2 disc TLD UE for $6.98! :) Definitely a bargain and contains the 25th Anniversary James Bond television special hosted by Roger Moore.
