  • 1) Dalton- Great music for both his gunbarrels, it's really smooth and the shot is good.

    2) Brosnan- Slick design, perfect update of the old ones (why not just use that design instead of the crap QOS/SF one)

    3) Lazenby- Music, shot, all great. But I don't like the treadmill effect.

    4) Simmons- I actually like the jump. The original, iconic gunbarrel.

    5) Moore (LALD, TMWTGG)- Walk good, shot's not great.

    6) Connery- Walks good, musics good, his stance is wierd.

    7) Moore 2- The turn/shot is waayyy too slow.

    8) Craig (CR)- I get what they were going for (trying to remove cliches, etc) but I don't like the design and I think they should've just done a normal one.

    9) Craig (SF)- It's better than the QOS one but that's not saying much. Crap QOS design is back, it's still too quick, it's at the end and Craigs pose seems a bit wierd.

    10) Craig (QOS)- It's just awful. Design is crap (why not just use Brosnans?), Craig may as well have just sprinted, it's at the end, it's too quick.

    9. Daniel Craig (SKFL) — Quite similar in structure to the QOS gunbarrel, and the gunbarrel itself has a strange, almost leathery texture to it. Craig's walk is much slower and builds the tension more appropriately, and his turn with the limp left arm mimics that of Dalton. Overall it seems a bit too refined and perfected, but it's leagues ahead of the 2008 atrocity.

    10. Daniel Craig (QOS) — As many have pointed out before, Craig looks like he's rushing through this because he has to evacuate his bowels. The whole thing is rushed (fitting the overall theme of QOS) and the music is particularly forgettable. The CGI is really overdone and just... my god Daniel's almost running, and it looks like he's going to fall over!

    Sweet this means he has a brand new one? Can't wait to see! Sorry to see it rated so low though... I guess I'll see for myself
  • @Master_Dahark He does have a new one but it's very similar to the QOS one.

    Yeah I remember seeing Dalton's alternate gunbarrel a few years back- you're right- it's become hard to find all of a sudden!
    He did end in an awkward pose, with his legs bent funny.... I found this custom 'what if' poster and it appears they used that exact image.

    The gunbarrel they ended up with was INFINITELY better!

    That is damn cool! I wish he took over from Moore in '81 when Cubby approached him. Classic Bond look!

  • Here's a good re-cap of all the GB's:

    Honestly, Brosnan's were the best, followed by the one in QoS even though it was too quick and in the wrong spot, then Timmy, Sean, Roger and last but not least George...
  • Lazenbys was awesome. The dots stopping, the music, etc.

    You actually prefer the QOS one?

    Brosnan's were the best, followed by the one in QoS

    Ludicrous.

    Nothing particularly wrong with the Brozza ones but QOS is head and shoulders the worst by a distance.
  • For Your Eyes Only would have to be my favourite gunbarrel, but why couldn't Moore have kept the awesome reaction time from Live and Let Die's?

    I agree, the QoS gunbarrel couldn't be any more tacked on, like a post-it note hanging off the edge of the movie.

    Have you seen Roger's GB's? His early ones have him fumbling to keep control of his gun on the turn and he looks like a policeman. Then in his older ones he turns so slowly that he'd have been shot before he could have got his own shot off. I also don't know why people go crazy for George's GB. It's just odd, the way he's in the center there strolling along, then ends with a silly kneel.

    As for QoS GB, I agree, it is in a STUPID place and goes by WAY to fast, but other than that I love the look of it, the music, and Daniel's turn which is a perfect mix of Timmy and Brozza. I'm so surprised that so any people don't like the QoS GB. I think the problem is that having it at the end just corrupted peoples opinion of it. If it were at the beginning I think everyone would have been fine with it.

    We're not discussing Roger's gunbarrel or George's gunbarrel. Where does that come into play?
  • At least with Roger and Sean it didn't seem like they needed a crap in their gunbarrels.

    It's not just that it's at the end. The design is a big step down from the Brosnan one and the older one, it's way too quick, etc. The music is just the normal Bond theme but out of sync because it's too fast.

    I won't rank yet, i'll just make a quick analysis.

    The best Gunbarrel is the one from License to Kill, because of the song and Dalton's walk. And the worst is OHMSS. Right after the gunbarrel comes on, you can see that Lazemby keeps static for like 0,3 seconds, and then he walks. Technical mistakes that made it be my choice of the worst.
  • I don't think they should use the Skyfall gunbarrel at the beginning of Bond 24. I wasn't a fan of Craig's pose (although I absolutely loved the placing of it). They need to use the classic design also. That's how you know it's Bond, whenever people do spoofs of the GB it's never got that design. Now they use a really generic looking barrel that actually looks less realistic.
  • My absolute favorite gun barrel sequence was Casino Royale's!

    It has nothing to with where in the film it is placed. We are discussing the merits of each individual GB here as a standalone piece.

    QOS is a shitty GB design, DC practically sprints across, the guy tracking his walk almost lets him walk out the other side, the blood is very poor and doesn't flow but seems to be sucked downwards

    Overall awful.

    SF marginally better but not by much. Just putting it at the front isn't going to solve all the current GB problems.
  • 1.) Connery- I like the way he wobbles, and I like his stance.

    2.) Simmons- The beginning. So iconic, SF's poster featured it.

    3.) Craig (CR)- Love the song, purposefully different, unlike QoS, which, I felt did it at the end ONLY to be rogue.

    4.) Lazenby- Flawed, but love the haunting music. Even my least favorite Bond had one of my favorite gunbarrels.

    5.) Craig (Skyfall)- Ok, ok, I get the symbolism about having it at the end cause MP and Q are back, but that's no excuse for having it at the end again. Virtually erases the reason why QoS had it there. Getting closer though! Add the barrel wobble and put it at the beginning of B24. Very exciting with the "chorus" of the Bond theme blaring.

    6.) Brosnan (GE-TWINE)- I like the design, Brosnan looks good, but it's very uneventful. Simmons jumps, Connery Wobbles, Lazenby knelt. Brosnan doesn't have a "move."

    7.) Brosnan (DAD)- Same as above, indifferent about the bullet.

    8.) Dalton- Dalton pasted into a Moore gunbarrel. Bland, but Dalton still had a better stance than Moore.

    9.) Moore (LALD- TMWTGG)- Bland, stance is boring.

    10.) Moore (TSWLM- AVTAK)- Same as above.

    11.) Craig (QoS)- No reason to exist at the end. I don't like the design, Craig walks too fast, I don't like the "Quantum of Solace" logo. Marc Forster, I feel, did this only to piss off fans. Skyfall was the only film of the 2 that I felt the gunbarrel was purposefully put at the end.

    My absolute favorite gun barrel sequence was Casino Royale's!

    I'd have preferred a normal one but I liked the CR one. At the time it was cool having it somewhere different and it was a nice one off. I didn't like the gunbarrel design though.

    lol I'm such a nerd for posting this but I don't even give a damn

    Here's MY gunbarrel!!

    Yeah yeah I had to steal Craig's legs. Here's the original ;)

    It was the Holiday party at work the other night and whenever I wear a suit my mind immediately jumps to Bond- HAD to take a shot with my PPK :))

    I liked Dalton's gunbarrels the most.
  • 1) Dalton (total class!)
    2) Moore Widescreen
    3) Lazenby (he might be #2, except I hate the way the blood wipes out his image, but not the gunbarrel. Drives me nuts!)
    4) Craig CR
    5) Brosnan
    6) Moore L&LD and MWTGG (I hate the way he grabs his gun arm)
    7) Simmons (walks way too slow)
    8) Connery (he's my favorite Bond - but my God, his shooting stance is laughable)
    9) Craig QOS (waaaaaay too fast)

    Although I've seen SF three times, I don't feel comfortable ranking it until I can view it side-by-side with the others.
  • 1.Pierce Bronsan
    2.Sir Roger Moore
    3.Sir Timothy Dalton

    7.George Lazenby

    Roger Moore (TAKE 2) - Accuracy matters more than speed and at least he is holding his gun correctly.

    I also like the George Lazenby gun barrel, Dalton's gun barrel and Craig's gun barrel for "CASINO ROYALE".
  • I don't know if this has happened to any of you, but when I saw SF for the first time, I was disappointed with the gun barrel. It seemed a bit awkward and mechanical upon first glance.

    However, after having viewed it a few more times, I must say it's grown on me. It's not the best gun barrel, but I think it's quite solid. It makes a statement. My initial impression may have had somewhat to do with the fact that they chose to end the movie with it again, which I initially disliked.

    Still undecided as to where I'd rank the Skyfall one...
    It lost a few points because you could clearly see the gun in his hands as he walked. I may be in the minority, but I'd actually rank Craig's QOS gunbarrel over his SF one. Hell, slow down the QOS just a few frames and that one becomes great

    I suppose if I had to update my ranking, here's where I'd put Skyfall:

    * Dalton
    * Simmons (doubling for Connery)
    * Moore (Take 1)
    * Lazenby
    * Craig (QOS)
    * Brosnan
    * Moore
    * Craig (SF)
    * Connery
    * Craig (CR)
