Skyfall - favorite act?

I've divided the movie into several small acts. Let's see which parts of the movie are considered favorites (maybe a poll can be made?):

1) PCS: Istanbul. Chase (0.00-0.12)
2) London, Briefing, Q (0.17-0.43)
3) Shanghai (0.44-0.54)
4) Macao (0.55-1.07)
5) Silva's Island (1.08-1.21)
6) London Underground (1.22-1.36)
7) Enquiry + DB5 heading to Scotland (1.37-1.52)
8) Skyfall attack (1.53-2.16)

    8. The cinematography is so beautiful.

I really liked the Shanghai bit with the jellyfish hologram.
  • 6-8 were my favourite parts, but the rest was great as well. I wonder if I've ever seen a better "last assault/attack" in a Bond movie... 8 was breathtaking!
  • 7 was the best part. The photography in Scotland was good, although I think PM the DOP from GE and CR would have been better overall. I wasn't impressed with the photography all thru the film, whereas I was blown away with the photography in CR.

Didn't think I'd ever hear that, and I wholeheartedly disagree, but to each their own.

1 through 5 was the best. Classic fun actiony Bond. When Silva gets captured and the subsequent part of the movie (excluding the magnifiscent ending scene) is where it suffers a bit from pacing.

Out of the first five parts, Shanghai gets the top spot! Absolutely beautiful with great camera work, great music and great tension.

It had its good parts. Shanghai and as discussed Scotland. The interior of Maccau again was good but Bonds arrival felt and looked artificial.

The CGI/greenscreen (motorbike sequence) thru Turkey also tainted what should have been a fantastic sequence.

Yeah some of the motorbike sequence resembled a 1960's back projection, but that isn't really as much on Deakins as it is the effects team.
  • Istanbul or Shanghai.

PTS and Shanghai/Silvas island. I did really like the London and Scottland stuff though.
  • I've begun typing an answer to this about half a dozen times, first it was the Casino, then Scotland, but London was so cool, but Istanbul was epic, to be honest, there was something to love in every scene for me, I'm going back again this afternoon so I can view it with a more critical eye after the giddiness of last night!
  • Visually I was blown away by the Shanghai sequence. I really loved those gun shot muzzle flashes that briefly illuminated the faces of Bond and Patrice to let you see who was who, I thought that was absolute genius. Probably my favourite scene.

Second favourite scene would have to be the Macau casino. Impeccable lighting and visual texture, a real feast for the eyes.

There was something quite enchanting also about Silva's island, I wish we could have seen a little bit more of it.

So in answer to OP's question, 3,4 and 5 in that order!

First place: London Underground - I always want more action taking place in London.
Second place: Silva's Island - amazing encounter with Silva.
Third place: Skyfall attack - very good gunfight with style (and with Aston martin DB5).

All scenes with DB5 were good.

    3-7-8 (not in order)

And I've seen much more blatant use of green screens in older Bonds. Never was a reason to dislike a certain film. Some people still don't want to accept that the motorbike chase was mostly done for real. It's a sad world.

    Agreed.

    There's special effects thus:

IMO, SF is in the former class, DAD in the latter.

I might be the odd one out here but I really like 2. I loved Q and a more traditional HQ. Also I liked to whole DB5 scene and going through Scotland. Additionally at the end with Mallory, I really like that scene. Also the part with Kincade before the attack on Skyfall was great. I think I just might like Bond at his roots.

    Shanghai
  • there is a number 9 - 'With Pleasure.'

Moneypenny, M, Leather door, familiar office and Bond. Perfect scene and it gave me goosebumps, no, pleasure.
  • I love Silva's Island. All of it. The setting. The Rat story. The "torture" scene! The sparring match between Bond & Silva reminded me of Dr No & Connery at the dinner table.
    The Marksman practice. All brilliant.
That's where SF excelled for me. Bringing back classic Bondian moments without ever making them chessy or forced

Silva's Island, Macao, Shanghai, Enquiry + DB5 heading to Scotland, Skyfall attack. Damn, the whole film was great. Really, nothing but great scene after great scene.

Did u like the home alone/Ateam montage when they were preparing skyfall lodge for the baddies?

That was good but clearly other thing stuck out more in my mind. I liked it though.

The home alonesque thing made me cringe, I wish they hadn't done it really. Should have stuck to just the sawn of shotguns.

Didn't like the Home Alone:ification either.

Best part is Silva's Island, because of Javier Bardem's magnificent introduction.

Worst? Shanghai/anything about the harddrive that's not the PTS.

every single time M said 'Bloody Hell' or Bond met Q or talking with him... Those are my favorites....

And Silva's introducing himself to Bond... rats... so funny :D there are two rats :D

Sadly, DB5 didn't survive (and explode? Come on! Vanquish can't even destroyed by ZAO! or QOS DBS)... and M.... I think the most dramatic is both of them, M and the car..

That doesn't mean it was bad.. the worst part of a great movie still made up part of said great movie.

Yep definitely the worst. The whole Patrice killing the art man is bland, so is Bond's part in it too. People say the like the style of it (illuminations and stuff), I personally think it's too much. Visual coolness overdose. Don't like the music either. Mind, this is a very short sequence (thankfully), and I like the following Macau casino scenes.

I quite like the Shanghai part. I think that the image and illuminations during the fight. The shadowy fight is beautiful and I wouldn't change it for anything.
