Something tells me you’re not a fan of Leo Suter @007HallY

Don’t know what would give you that impression 😂

For what it’s worth I want to like any potential actor for Bond. But… well, I’ve seen his work and I don’t think he’s a good match for Bond in general. I’ll definitely watch Face Of Horror and would be happy if I enjoyed his performance. I’ve said in the past I think he should be considered even if I don’t like him as an actor (although I’m going to guess he’s not high up on Amazon’s list after Lynley).

To be fair, Turner is also more of a supporting actor.

If you want an unknown actor with a solid career, it's going to be very difficult.

I don’t think Suter’s film career is comparable to Turner’s. I can see what you mean I guess (Turner tends to be second billed a lot of the time, but he’s ultimately front and centre). But again, I think that’s fine so long as the actor makes an impact.

The thing with Bond is we’re not all going to like the next actor.
From Connery to Brosnan our opinions of James Bond were mostly our own. Then with CR and Daniel Craig entered the scene and the internet happened.
Before you know it, we’re all voicing our opinions. Right or wrong everyone has had their say.
All I can say is, good luck to the next guy.

I guess he’s supporting in that new film he has out, but it kind of feels like the highest profile he’s been so far and he’s kind of on the up. I suppose Brosnan was only doing supporting roles in proper films before GE (although he had his sideline playing leads in the straight to video mush).
A connection I only just learned is that Turner has actually been Brosnan’s screen son! :)

Callum Turner I have only seen in the Fantastic Beasts films, though the more I think about it Callum could be a shrewd choice for Bond.

I think if we’re looking at Lynly as some sort of Remington Steele/The Saint type thing for Suter it’s a failure. Both Brosnan and Moore made impacts in those roles whatever one thinks of them as actors. I don’t get that sense from Lynly - in fact there’s a distinct radio silence about Suter as a potential Bond and I don’t think the show has been quite the hit that was anticipated. Again, I can understand having just seen that first episode. I don’t think he’s going to end up being a viable choice.

To be fair Lynley hasn't shown in the UK yet and it is how it does here that will determine whether or not it's a failure. It was never going to gather much attention on BritBox abroad. If there is any noise about Suter as Bond it will be when Lynley debuts.

I'd like to take a gander at the first episode so if you can tell me where you watched it I'd appreciate it.

To be fair again, Suter is just one part of a large ensemble part.

It's on BritBox. If you're anywhere apart from Canada or America you'll have to use a VPN though.

I suppose. Still, it does seem like the reaction's a bit mixed. I think Suter lacking gravitas and concerns about his acting are pretty common critiques so far. I think if this show was going to be a hit or showcase Suter as a potential Bond we'd have heard more noise.

No, not his fault at all.

Right now, “ Under the radar “ is a perfect place to be for any prospect…

I'm not sure about that. So far, Amazon has chosen "obvious" options.

    I wouldn't expect any surprises.

They'll go for who they find most interesting and presumably who impresses during auditions. I don't think there's any advantage in being under the radar or anything like that.

I don't really follow the logic there, why is it perfect? I think, in terms of publicity, Eon were only ever turned off by someone if they used news lines like 'he's rumoured to be the next Bond' in their own publicity; or if they were already attached to existing film series. I can't see any reason to think they or the current guys -who so far have only hired very high profile talent- would aim particularly for anyone under the radar.

I also don't think there's much point in hoping that there's some perfect candidate, who looks like Tim Dalton and has the screen presence of Connery, who has somehow never risen to prominence. It's possible, sure; y'know, maybe it's Corey Mylchreest or someone, but not very likely.

Why? This is a UK show that hasn't even been shown in the UK yet.

Here's what I think. It's obvious from many previous posts that you have a downer on Suter. It's also obvious from your previous post that you didn't know that Lynley hadn't aired yet in the UK. You're a UK resident who is also claiming to have seen the first episode despite it not being available. I'm sorry but I'm taking your claims with a pinch of salt. I think you have a bit of an obsession with this particular actor and would say anything to discredit him.

While I do think that the actor eventually selected will have been mentioned by someone on this board , as well as other outlets, I don’t think it will be one of the heavily touted “ favorites “

Ok. I'm sorry I upset you then :) Just giving my opinion. I'll just leave it at that then.

Glancing at a couple of interviews, he has an excellent voice…

I dunno, at the moment I can well believe it will be Turner, even though we're a little way off still. He seems pretty perfectly positioned and at the right experience/talent level, in the same way that the ATJ rumours never rang true for me.

Me neither; I'm certainly not watching that Netflix rom drama thing! :)
He looks a bit average in the trailer to me, but I think he did get a good review or two from it. Who knows, maybe.

You haven't upset me and all's well. I'm just defending Suter as he's an actor I like, especially as I don't believe you're being totally genuine. It's ok to have a downer on an actor but let's keep it fair.

Why wouldn't someone be genuine about their opinion on an actor's talent? Do you think he owes 007HallY money or something? :P

It's not "an actor's talent" that I'm questioning. I was taking issue with something else 007HallY claimed.

I'd like to think I'm genuine about my opinions, right or wrong as they are! Like I said I'll even go and see the film he's in next year and want to like his performance.

Anyway, if you want to judge Lynley for yourself get a good VPN and a BritBox subscription or use a friend's one ;)

It wasn't your "opinions" I was questioning. I'm trying to be as polite as possible. I've said what I think and I refer you back to that.

No worries mate, I'll leave it at that then and agree to disagree. If Leo Suter in fact becomes the next Bond I'll be happy to have those quotes dug up and be suitably embarrassed ;) It could well happen, let's be honest, and I've been wrong before!

Edit: seriously, if you want to have a look at episode one here's an easier way: I'm pretty sure a dodgy version is on dailymotion. Not sure if it's viewable (lots of dodgy edits to avoid copyright) but it's available if you don't have a VPN.

He as good as said he used a VPN. Lots of people do these days. @007HallY has his faults, but I don’t think being a liar is one of them.

Thanks. That was quite sweet :))

I can fully accept incidentally I can be very opinionated about Bond and these actors online. Being stuck at a computer for chunks of my work during the week needs its distractions ;) and let's be honest, the anonymity of the internet can probably bring out people's critical nature. Anyway, I'll duck out of this conversation.

I think Moore and Brosnan were two most established actors for the role when they were hired.

    Yes, and primarily television actors.

I never used the word "liar". However, there's a number of things that just don't add up for me. I've sent 007HallY a private message as I don't want to keep repeating myself, or derail the thread, or discuss this with his friends.
