I'd be much more worried about the long term health of the franchise under Amazon weather or not in 10-15 years time the property goes the way of Marvel and Star Wars and ends up being devalued because of too many spin-offs or unnecessary world building. I'm worried that Amazon will learn all the wrong lessons from Bond 26's success and will start pumping out films with the least amount of effort and creativity just to make a quick buck. The challenge isn't if Amazon are capable of making a good James Bond movie - it's can they maintain the series and if so for how long?

    Call me crazy, but I don't think they hired Villeneuve to make Brosnan 2.0.

    Should they? I would say yes to something like that.

    I suppose the flip side to this is you simply can’t have any Bond era 2.0. Even a Force Awakens type Bond adventure wouldn’t be the same as the instalments it’s paying homage to.

    This is such a stupid conversation. They are not thinking at all about what's come before. Expecting something identifiably tied to a past actor is just not going to be fruitful. You should not want Brosnan 2.0, each tenure brings its own drama. That's the formula, reinvention, please don't drag me down with your childish nostalgia. I want to see this generation create their own Bond, that's the whole point of the survival of the franchise.

    Well, I think it's impossible not to think about Bond's previous entries at all, at least to some degree. You can't reinvent something without thinking about what's come before.

    It's all there in what Knight has said - 'the same but different'. If that's the mentality they're going with, then I'm guessing they will have discussed what will make this Bond adventure a unique new take. Yes, with some reference to what's come before, but not indebted to it. It'll be a reinvention to whatever degree, but I think an effort will be made to understand what makes Bond films work, and even what made the recent ones work (or perhaps even not work).

    Of course. I hate having to spell out every last detail when I think it's obvious what I meant by reinvention.... I'm not denying a formula nor saying that they won't do some of the basic stuff. Don't be ridiculous. But they are not going to look to the 1990s for what to do today. They will capture the timeless elements, but it will be in a new lens free of the shackles of any past Bond actor's tropes.

    Is it likely that this just means that the filming is finished? "Wraps Production" sounds to me like the film is completely done and could theoretically hit theaters next week?! However, for a film like Dune 3, the special effects alone will take many more months to complete, as far as I can tell.

    Wasn't trying to be pedantic, no insult intended :) Yes, I have a difficult time believing they'd be completely indebted to films from the 1990s for what to do today. Or even the last five films, although again I can believe they'd have had conversations involving previous films (I imagine Amy Pascal would have something to say about SP's pre-production process and maybe what to avoid! Possibly anyway, who knows?)

    Even EON have looked back at their own films. It's hard to imagine Amazon not looking at previous Bond films, as they make Bond 26. It's more like...while Bond 26 would be its own thing, it definitely would remind us of a previous Bond film/films. I believe CR was compared to OHMSS & LTK when it came out, yet CR still felt freshed.

    They wrapped filming. It is wrong to report that "production" has wrapped. So you're right.

    I imagine Knight and Villeneuve will be revisiting Fleming and have thought about their favourite Bond films. Not only that though but they’ll think about other films, perhaps books, visual references like art, or even real life stories that they think influential or relevant for the story and vision of this film in some way. I’m sure this makes up at least a portion of their supposed 9 hour conversation! I would hope and suspect it’s a far more organic process of developing this story and vision for Bond rather than ‘let’s make x era 2.0’.

    But yeah, it’ll be fascinating seeing how they reinterpret Bond. I’m sure there’ll be surprises too.
