Fascinating that nobody of Dr. No's staff is actually helping to stop Bond. And to turn the heating back down.

Love the film, definitely one of the best ones.

Superb write up, @CommanderRoss! This movie made me the Bond fan I am today. I've always loved it.

Ah, that's where the 'fetch my shoes' controversy comes from. Sorry, but that's just idiotic. One should understand the context.

Funnily enough, that line isn't in the novel. Bond treats Quarrel with respect in the book.

Finally watching the one film I can't find on dvd (but should have), courtesy of modern-day slave driver Bezos, de. No!

There are literally hundreds of DVD copies on ebay. Most only a few pounds...

    My pleasure, love doing it!

tbh I don't get the impression he's disrespectful. I think that's a very American take to interpret it that way. He really throws the line as they're going to run for safety. If anything, in every other scene he's not just respectful to Quarrel, but treats him as a friend. Even when he's talking about the (non-existence) of dragons.

I have DR NO on now. That write up made me want to watch it again.

I wanted to see how this looks on AMAZON PRIME. The flashing lights/violence etc trigger warning during the gunbarrel was distracting.
So this is what the 4K transfer looks like? The establishing shot of London, like the Blu-ray is still far too dark compared to the cinematic 35mm prints.

Overall it's looking pretty good, though.

I love Bond's flat. My favorite of the rare times we see it.

To me this doesn't look too much different to the blu-ray. It might be a tad darker.

Connery has some great facial expressions when he's taking to Potter and Dent at the Queen's Club.

The tarantula scene is darker here.

Bond and Quarrel sneak onto Crab Key and this scene looks extremely dark on the Amazon transfer. Honey's intro is bright and colorful though.

I now switched to the ROKU Smart Picture setting to compare with standard. Slightly more natural skin tones. Not as saturated.

I love the entire Crab Key section.

The reactor room is one of my favorite Ken Adam sets.

DIE ANOTHER DAY in honor of Lee Tamahori.
Bond is about to escape that weird green house thingy. Now he's running down that Amazon style dome thingy.

I suppose this is intended to be the highlight of the film: the escape from the Ice Palace and infamous CGI sequence. I must say, though, I'm loving this viewing.

Here we go..............the iconic scene that gets so much flack from fans.............here we go..............YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

So, I set my television picture settings to the ROKU Smart Picture........and the CGI didn't look that bad.

That scene gets a lot of hate, but to me the CGI didn't look any worse than the beloved scene in SUPERMAN RETURNS when the Brandon Routh rescues that plane and lands it in the stadium.

There you have it. I'm praising arguably the most hated scene in the franchise.

I remember the night my friends and I saw this in the cinema together. We were all extremely excited. What an event.
The Brosnan films always felt like an event to me.
The last act is what disappointed me at the time Let's see if this viewing changes that opinion, shall we?

Brief moment of Bond mourning Miranda's death. Not sure I understand that.

Very comic book and video game esque here, but I kind of like it.
