Autumn Watchlist

"And as the daylight's fading
When Lammas has come in
And gleamers go to work among the stubble
There comes an autumn sickle
To cut the summer's throat
Before the season knows it is in trouble"

Martin Newell, Black Shuck

Yes, I know we're still summer, we're in early August, even, but see the quote above and in any case, planning has never hurt anyone.

So, as for my summer thread, this one is about autumn (my favourite season, incidentally): what are you planning to watch this autumn? Movies and tv series. What do you usually watch? By extension, what do you tend to read?

Well, all right, I will start.
Obviously I watch a lot of horror movies, mostly old ones, from September onwards. Then a lot of crime fiction for #Noirvember. Same with what I read: horror from late July(!) onwards, then crime fiction.

Although it spans several seasons, I love to watch “ To Kill A Mockingbird “ on a cool autumn night.

Never watched it. Another b&w film that is fittingly autumnal is The Big Sleep. I'd watch it (or read it) for #Noirvember

To Kill a Mockingbird is my all time favorite film, a classic in every sense. I’ve never seen The Big Sleep but will definitely rectify that… this fall

It's a heatwave now. I'm in an autumnal mood. Austria was meant to be rainy. It isn't. Watch suggestion: Amadeus.

Atmospheric tv series for the days leading to and for the early of September: Twin Peaks. I'm not one of its cult followers, but did enjoy what I saw of it.

We've had lovely September so far, windy and chilly. How's yours? Anyway, been watching Wolf King with my son. Not a great tv series by any stretch, but enjoyable nonetheless. It's about werewolves and other werebeasts and the background often looks very autumnal.

Whodunnits TV and films. 60's TV shows like The Saint and The Avengers.
70's shows like Columbo and The Bionic Woman.

Horror movies I like the Scream series and Friday 13th, I tend to ramp up watching Bond films late summer early autumn, when it comes to Bond I tend to give myself a break from the series for long periods then rewatch them fresh.

@Ludovico good shout regarding Twin Peaks I am big fan owning all 3 seasons, Fire Walk With Me and other related media. I am due a full rewatch of Twin Peaks The Return and like to watch David Lynch films this time of year.

For me, Columbo is more like daytime Sumner watch. But the Bionic Woman is definitely autumnal, like back to school or November autumnal. The old Hulk tv series too.

Funny enough I watched an episode of The Incredible Hulk this morning whilst at work, it was on one of the classic channels it was the episode that often scared me as a kid when David Banner (Bill Bixby) encountered the other hulk in the The First (2 part episode).

They did a good job at making Dick Durock tower over Lou Ferrigno and look imposing as Ferrigno was 6'5.

Oh I LOVE that episode! It's like an update of Universal's Frankenstein. Genuinely scary at times. The whole series was way better than whatever they did with Hulk in the Marvel movies. They understood he was a tragic creature.
Anyway, the series in general and this episode in particular are perfect for autumn.

The Hulk TV show borrowed elements from The Fugitive which I liked, Banner was always on the run never at peace. I think the best cinema interpretation by far is Ang Lee's The Hulk there is more character development and depth in that film with some good imagery, Bruce and his father really are struggling with psychological issues in that movie.
