Do people think they will do a big press conference like old days or will be different when they reveal the title and new Bond?

    PR today goes like this:
Announcement trailer on SoMe, revealing what date that the announcement of the date of a press conference will be, followed by a teaser weeks later, and then a final trailer close to the event :-)

“ According to a well-placed source close to the production, Scott Rose-Marsh — a 37-year-old redheaded actor whose biggest credits are Krays: Code of Silence and Wolves of War — was brought in sometime in late June to read sides from 1995’s GoldenEye, presumably for just-hired director Denis Villeneuve. He might also have tackled pages from the script Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is said to be whipping up for Bond 26.”

I know nothing about this actor, outside of the article. I’m not even sure that I believe the rumor. But being on the HR website does give a sheen of legitimacy.

Yeah, the obscurity of the actor and quality of the publication makes me kind of believe it. The guy himself isn't so interesting to me, more the news that they are actively getting readings from people right now and obviously looking at a wide variety of actors.

I once heard someone frame the qualities an actor needs to play James Bond as one part movie star and one part character actor. Scott Rose-Marsh has the look of a compelling character actor, if not a matinee star. I wonder if that’s the point?

Dalton and Craig were steps in a certain kind of acting direction that seemed, not unpleasantly, interrupted by Brosnan. If Dalton had been an overwhelming success in the role through to the mid-90s, would we have gotten someone like Daniel-Day Lewis to play Bond in the proceeding era?

What I mean to say is that Craig’s unmitigated success in the role could inspire Pascal and Heyman and Villeneuve to go for another offbeat choice. Even after Craig, our thinking about who could or should play Bond has shifted back to something in the Brosnan/Connery mold. Maybe, we should be looking at actors with more indie or stage credits than starring roles.

I suspect at this point there’s many potential actors, and a lot will be tv/indie types rather than more established ones. A fair few might even be more left field to give them options. They’ll bring in some of the more unknown/untested candidates to read. Most will not make it to screen tests.

It just depends on who stands out or even if they have a favourite. As I’ve said I think ultimately they’ll go in the direction of more experienced/established, but not an A-lister (I have a very hard time believing Scott Rose Marsh is significant here).

At the risk of being too condescending, I think it's good to keep the name Scott Rose Marsh in you backpocket if you ever get "Actors who were rumoured to play James Bond" as a question on Pointless.

I thought so too but I decided to search his pictures. I think slimmed down, he looks dangerous and brooding and a slight offbeat. I know nothing about this man’s acting or career, but I’m intrigued. One wonders whether a leak like this is intentional to gain or gauge interest for the film or the actor. Does it point us in a direction of who the producers are scouting? Is this the mold in which Bond 26 will be cast from either side of the camera?

Or is it just fake? This leak seems plausible. Do I think this is the guy? No. But how wide is the net? It’ll be interesting to read, see and hear who wanted who, and for what, when this part of the saga is assessed.

I don’t think he’s completely left field in terms of looks either. There are some pictures of him shaven and wearing suits where you can see he’s got quite sleek, harder edged features and a ‘cruel mouth’. I don't think he's anywhere near as handsome or striking looking, but he's kind of in the Craig and Connery mould. With a haircut and maybe a leaner frame he’d be ok.

As for the guy's acting, I've only just watched something called You, Me, and The Ex which seems to be a proof of concept short he was in three years ago. At any rate he only seems to have become a working actor in 2020, but I personally don't get much sense of charisma or sex appeal despite the character he's playing. I guess I can see glimpses of potential as Bond. Here's the short if anyone's interested.

He's ok in it I guess. Functional. I can see how they'd get him in to read amongst hundreds of actors. Honestly, I'd be surprised if he turns out to be a big star years from now. Maybe a character actor you see playing certain roles on BBC dramas - maybe a secondary villain in a bigger film if he's lucky. But I don't think we're looking at the next Bond, nor is he any indication of who they'll ultimately cast. That said kudos to the guy. He seems to have had a career change in his early 30s, which while a good time to do that in your life isn't the easiest task when that career you're going into is acting! And reading for Bond is nothing to sniff at.

My bet is it’s early days and they’re rounding up as many actors as possible to read lines (I suspect the first lot will even be the lesser established, untested ones as it’s probably easier to get them in to read/see if anyone can progress to screen tests. It’s possible there’s a Henry Cavill in there, for example). As others have said the leak probably comes from his agent or him blabbing to a mate.

I feel at this point either ATJ will definitely become the next Bond or he’ll turn down the offer to audition! Probably the latter…

    Rose-Marsh is the anti-Connery: no eyebrows :P

And before anyone says it, Craig had more eyebrows than this fella, who doesn't look like Bond, doesn't seem to act much, has no presence at all, no charisma. That piece of rumor is as fake as it gets. Know why? Because it references scenes from GE, which were read in those leaked auditions not too long ago. They just glued one thing to the other and tried to make it stick.
