With MI making less that it's predecessors will Bond be facing an uphill battle?

Bond has way more fans than MI.

Like I said before, Bond is a much stronger brand. Doesn't mean they can't get it wrong, but it's a strong brand. MI owes a lot to Tom Cruise.

I still reckon Sope Dirisu should be next, followed by Aaron Pierre.

    Exactly.

We already surpassed the peak of race swapping, to do this now would feel like hopping on yesterday's bandwagon.

I don't think it will happen. International market is too important for the Bond franchise.

I'd go for Dirsu over Pierre (I think the latter would make a better villain or henchman). But my gut instinct is the next Bond will be played by a white actor. Never say never though.

To say casting a Black Bond would be "late to the trend"... of what? Equality? lol. There can be a black Bond if we're all big and brave enough I promise. Black people probably don't like being associated with your perceived worries about outright success. A strong enough creative vision can get past anything.
  • I think Pierre would be a cool choice for Bond, but I can’t see Trump era Amazon wanting to catch heat for being the ones to race swap Bond. You just know Trump himself would make a stink about it as well, considering he’s apparently a Bond fan himself.

Safe for them to cast another white man because while I’m sure a section of the audience might grumble about it I don’t think you’re potentially losing anyone over it and it certainly wouldn’t be controversial to maintain the status quo. It’s more likely they’ll maintain a level of diversity in the MI6 support cast much as First Light is doing.

Agree that Pierre would be a cool choice, but this seems like clickbait nonsense. I'm surprised it has as much traction as it does. Honestly, we do a version of this every time it seems -- I don't think there's any real chance they cast the guy who was just cast as Green Lantern as James Bond.

But isn't the entire thing about Green Lantern is that it can be multiple guys? There's the Hal Jordan version and the other one and the other one and the other... That's how the Lanterns work. It's a ring anybody can wear. So he may not be all that committed and/or it could just be a partial role, it's not like becoming Superman or Batman or anything close imo.

The show is called "Lanterns" as in plural, and.. it's a tv show. No movies yet. He can still be Bond, he should probably take Bond over a tv show!!!!!

Yeah I think that's really possible. Not to get political but sometimes these things do affect stuff!

Ah it's a TV show? I literally know nothing about it. It might be possible, but I guess we've lost a 007 to a TV show contract before :D

Bond's gone complicated, so much fuss. I might as well be Batman.

The Aston Martin DB5 drives up to a elegant-looking hotel, with a parking valet.

Pierre Valet: (French) Good evening Mr. Bond. Nice to see you tonight.

Bond: (French) Good evening, Pierre. How are things?

Pierre Valet: (French) Very good, and you?

Bond steps out of the DB5, looking dashing as usual in a tailored tuxedo, his black hair

combed back. He spots the red Ferrari, parked. He enters the casino.

Is that why you want a black Bond? Equality?

I think black actors should have an equal chance at playing Bond, and any filmmaker who writes off non-white actors for this role because of politics is a coward.

Before you get pissy, I won't be mad if they cast a white guy...

Amazing how this always gets brought up every couple of months. Theres a reason all of the Bond actors have been White. It's not a coincidence. Why is it always Black? Why are there no cries for a Polynesian Bond or a Micronesian Bond?

To be fair there are actors who aren't white or black who have been mentioned for Bond on these forums. The likes of Henry Golding or Dev Patel. Not saying either are realistic picks, but I'm personally of the opinion that if the right actor comes along they should cast who they see as the strongest.

But anyway, I feel this conversation never ends well ;)

I literally said "non-white actors" which.. includes those. Read carefully before you get mad. I'm not even sure what you are trying to suggest? Some conspiracy? Are you joking? Would a non-white Bond really upset you that much?

Agreed, but If they were really such great picks for Bond then their race wouldn't be brought up. A lot of people decide they want a non-white Bond and then find an actor to justify it because they think it plants a flag for diversity to be able to announce to the world that we have a non-White Bond.

Yes, I think the same way that people like Cubby and Barbara have thought about Bond for the first fifty years of his being of film. I don't care about whatever fad the media started in 2016.

Of course their race will be brought up. None of us are blind and clearly there are people who have strong opinions on what Bond's race should be, regardless of how strong the actor is.

I'm sure there are some people who do that... although I must say I haven't really seen it here. Generally I've found when folks here say they'd be happy with Sope Dirisu or Aaron Pierre as Bond I think it genuinely comes down to the opinion they could be good picks.
